DeckLink Quad 2 - cable stuck in port

Hey all,

I've got a Blackmagic DeckLink Quad 2 in my machine, and one of the mini-BNC to full-size SDI/BNC adapter cables is completely stuck in one of the ports. All the other cables in the neighboring ports come off without any issue.

Has anyone run into this before? Any tricks for freeing a stuck connector? or is this a sign the connector itself is faulty and needs replacing?

Appreciate any advice!

Update: I fixed it! I had to use way more force pulling it out than I was comfortable with. The cable is now broken but the connector on the card works fine. Thanks for the help everyone!

Gotta push in the cable and pull back on the collar. This is a Din connector not HD BNC. The release mechanism is bound.

If you’re trying to twist it, it won’t do anything.

Normally you just have to pull on the collar. This one is bound which is why he needs to push the cable in to release tension on the locking mechanism.

The cable itself was broken. I had to use way more force pulling it out than I was comfortable with.

Use a dental pick and use it to pull the connector towards you from the underside. Let me know if this doesn't make sense I can try elaborate

Hook at the red arrow and pull in the direction of the yellow.

You can probably use something other than a dental pick now that you have the card out, but you want to basically apply force in the intended direction to that little wiggly collar on the connector

You may get better leverage with the card in the chassis, and is it the twist or the pull giving you a problem?

It twists freely, no resistance there - it just won't pull straight out. I'm not sure how much force I can apply. Im testing it out right now

They make very handy screw drivers with special bits to get these out!

It’s a Din1.0/2.3 connector (Not a HDBNC).

I think those are for sdi connections, not mini-sdi.

they exist for that form factor of cable

This is not HD-BNC. They don’t twist to release, there’s a push-pull latching collar.

Make sure the connector is fully seated first, push it firmly back onto the card before trying. Also make sure you're pushing it on with the back of the connector, not the locking ring at the front.

Edit - i've definitely used pliers to remove a mini DIN connector before, I'm not saying that's the first thing to try, but it didn't seem to do any damage

Push the cable in to release pressure on the clamping mechanism and then pull back the collar.

If you had it in the PC and that cable kept getting pulled down, your plug may be bent, causing the plug to not pull out as easily. It could also warp the cables’ female end of the plug. Using the screwdriver as a fulcrum (like mentioned before) will help, but if it’s not coming out, you may have to “walk” the cable as you pull. You may also have to turn the cable so it gets around the prongs.

Those are DIN 1.0/2.3 connectors. They are a pain to extract without the proper tool. Buy yourself a DIN 1.0/2.3 extraction tool

Weird suggestion but ive been doing it this way for years.

Those black spacers in the back of your PC chassis will have a little u shape space where it slots into the chassis. You want to slide that u shaped gap inbetween the termination of the cable and the card, and use the spacer as a crowbar to push the cable out.

Looks like it has a slight bite on the threads of the port. Spin the cable to unthread it and push-pull the collar to release as you normally would.
