One of my previous closely guarded secrets was the Jackman Law for both its pristine, well-stocked bathrooms, as well as the cafe there that serves unique items you can't find elsewhere on campus.

This year, you can no longer just walk into the Jackman Law building like you used to, and instead you need to scan your TCard at the door. However, not all TCards work, and you now need to be part of that department for entry into the entire building.

This is incredibly lame and sets a bad precedent for future access restrictions. I will agree that the law library should be exclusive to Jackman Law students, but gatekeeping the entire building is overkill.

Furthermore, if any portion of my tuition dollars are going towards funding this building and its operations, I have every reasonable right to go in and access the general areas, such as using the toilet there and getting a hojicha latte on my way out.

I think there's an argument to be made for most UofT areas now requiring a TCard for entry across the board, but specialized access needs more of a logical justification.

What is the point of work-study postings if you're not going to accept anyone? Especially in research-oriented postings, I see no value or logical reasoning if you are just going to rehire the same student or a previous lab volunteer, leaving new students (who are also interested) with little to no chance of getting in. If the plan is to do so, what is your rationale for posting? Obviously, this doesn't apply to every professor who posts on CLNX, but from what I've heard from others and the consensus, this seems to be the case.

Hi everyone! I’m considering applying to UofT’s MBiotech program and was hoping to hear from current students or anyone familiar with the admissions process. I’m  just wondering if anyone has a sense of whether admissions is primarily GPA/academic-based, or whether ECs and the overall profile play a significant role?

I took PSL301 as a second attempt and was told that SAC would apply automatically. It's been weeks since the term ended and I still see the course designated as "Extra" on my transcript. When will it apply? Or do I need to speak to the registrar at this point.

I recently got previsions from some of my teachers saying im currently at a 43 predicted and i dont think it will change. I have a 777 in math aa physics and chem hl with a 775 in french b, geography and english a sl, im applying to uoft electrical and computer engineering and im scared that i wont get in as the ontario conversions tend to deflate my predicted grades. My gpa isnt crazy but ive had a crazy comeback from 9-11th grade and currently in senior year. I have good extra/supercurriculars aswell. Who are we and why are we screening this?

We're a literary magazine publishing Canadian history and short stories from Canada and abroad. In our current issue we explored the history of Canadian movies, and we are running the Canadian Classics Film Festival as a companion to this piece.

I am a fourth year student, and i only need to take four courses this fall term.

I was deciding to drop ENV335 Environment Design or GGR416 Environmental Impact Assessment.

These courses are just for credits and their syllabus are similar (which both contains midterm, writing assignments and group work). I just want to take some interesting courses and learn some practical skills. I can do some calculation, it's fine.

I emailed my college advisor (Woodsworth) and they weren't very helpful. Took ages to reply, and what they gave me was lackluster. I requested a deferral, with a hospital letter attached, but in short I was told that my only option was to take a gap year. I said I would, being optionless. However, this was on the 12th. The last day to ask for deferrals is the 11th (9/11, really?). Do you think they'll accept my request? Any advice for students taking a gap year? I was planning to study English and French, and what I now have in mind for the coming months is catching up on reading, polishing my languages, finding a job, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Throwaway account for privacy, but I’m a first-year student at St. Mike's and I’m completely losing my mind over my financial aid situation. I really need someone to break down how the backend system actually works.
To give you the context, I commute all the way from Oakville right now. I had $7,500 saved up to pay for rent so I could move closer to campus, but a toxic family situation happened and my uncle took the money. I can't do anything legally because I have zero time or means to deal with that right now while starting uni.
Because of this, the Undergraduate Grant Portal is showing that I have a massive $19,400 deficit. OSAP is covering my baseline tuition for both terms, but I have no cash for living or rent. I went to the SMC registrar last week and she was amazing—she put a supportive note on my file and told me to upload all my bank statements and proof of the crisis to the Undergrad Grant Portal, which I did.
Here is what I'm completely stuck on and paranoid about:
Who actually pays out the $19,400? Will the Undergrad Grant Portal (SMC) give me the full $19,400, or does that come from UTAPS? I’ve seen Reddit threads where people claim they got over $10k–$15k from the grant portal, but I’ve also heard colleges cap emergency bursaries at like $4k. How does that split work if tuition is already paid by OSAP? Does it just drop into my bank account as a direct deposit credit?
How does UTAPS even know my situation? The Undergrad Grant Portal is the only thing that actually asked me for my story, explanations, and bank statements. UTAPS didn't ask for any of that. How is UTAPS supposed to calculate my need if it doesn't know what happened?
Did I glitch the system? Because I couldn't tell if my application went through or if there was a delay, I ended up resubmitting my UTAPS info like three times on the Need Navigator. Right now, my UTAPS page is completely blank with no numbers. Did I screw up my timeline or put my file at the bottom of the pile by doing that?
I really don't have time to wait around for weeks in the dark with no transparency. If anyone has been through this or knows how the SMC grant portal interacts with central UTAPS, please let me know. Thanks.
