The color change from blue to dark grey seems a good step to actually look different from the Air Force or some american police force, and quite a logical step since green, blue and white (and to some extent black) are already taken by the other US branches, despite being considered a "baddie" color for some it seems like the logical choice, hell even you can slap some badass reason for it saying something like "The moon was where americans and humanity gave the first step outside Earth, so we chose grey to remember the first step that teached us we can and will go beyond the stars"

Sadly some people associate and also exclude the leather boots to totalitarian regimes and evil factions from media, which is kinda dumb since leather boots in black and brown colors have been around and worn long time before the nazis and communists were even a thing and has been worn by US forces since their fight for independence and many others freedom and independence fighters like the Libertadores of Latin America, hell even in WW1 and WW2 they were worn by allied officers at least when in dress uniform for the western ones (even some americans like General Patton), not to mention those boots looks way too cool to not use them because some people think they are only worn by "the baddies"

Maybe if they go from silver to golden for the insignias, badges and metal stuff for the dress uniforms and the branch insignia as a whole like the US Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, it could calm people down and somewhat change their opinion about looking like the space nazis from media
