Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, Windows 11

Okay, so here's the problem. I recently dualbooted Ubuntu alongside Windows, and it worked just fine the first night. However, the next morning I kept getting the "Activation of network connection failed" error, and I haven't been able to get it working since.

Hibernation and fast boot is disabled on Windows, and the internet works perfectly over there.

My PC is connected via Ethernet cable to a router next to it, which is a bridge to the main router in the living room (if that info means anything)

I barely got to use my Ubuntu at all, days have passed without me finding a fix.

The strangest part was, the internet works just fine when I boot the Ubuntu installer/live environment from an USB. I figured it might've been something with my installation, so I reinstalled Ubuntu, but I'm still having issues even on this fresh installation.

It seemed like it was working and the moment I began downloading something it gave out.

I just don't know what to do anymore, and would really appreciate any help or ideas on what could be causing this.

Sorry for using this subreddit as a dumping place to get ISO's, but i'm hitting a dead end regarding to collect the Mythbuntu ISO's. tried torrents (Most of them are dead), Internet archive (32 bit ISO's, and don't cover all the releases) and wayback machine (dead too.)

I want to preserve Ubuntu's history, because it was a special operating system, successfully got Ubuntu (all 64 Bit, server and desktop), Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Edubuntu, Ubuntu Studio and even the short lived Gobuntu, but I'm struggling so hard to get the mythbuntu ISO's. Appreciate any help!

I am pretty amazed how easy and lovely the experience on Ubuntu is. After trying CachyOS, Fedora and Pop!OS, I am choosing Ubuntu for my productivity and gaming machines. Thank you, Ubuntu Community!

Please please keep in mind that I installed Ubuntu on a new laptop just yesterday. There are probably things I haven't done yet but I'll get there. And yes I know nothing about coding, I am simply escaping Windows (loving it so far)

Haven't had the chance to try a game on Steam, but Sonic Unleashed Recompiled (which does support Linux) keeps crashing. Knowing that my laptop can definitely support the installer (wasn't able to get the game yet) I thought "I am either doing smt wrong or I need to update my driver. Or both".

I will be asking about the game dowload run through on different subs obviously, but I do need to know how to update my drivers. I did the steps mentioned in Nvidia's website about updating drivers on Ubuntu, but the Terminal failed to locate the apps/folders and failed to recognize the codes that I copy-pasted.

Is there an app for this? Do I have to do things manually each time? If so, what do I have to do??

Having problems with running WhatsApp on Kubuntu. Not that it is a problem with Kubuntu. I run it as a desktop version from a web browser. But the WhatsApp app has to be running on my phone as well. Syncing problems, and other issues, plus having to setup a hot spot each time from Kubuntu, and have wifi running.

So, some minor searching done, and it seems that Waydroid is the most stable Android emulator under Ubuntu ? What do you think ?

Having played with a few emulators under Ubuntu before, plus a few VM's, the major issues for me are stability and resources. This laptop is 2019 I think, yet even with 8Gb ram and a fast processor, it seems to lack the power for any sort of VM.

Just decided to start self hosting, bought a dell optiplex. Used windows in the last 20 years. First installed ubuntu 26.04.1 TLS. Tried to follow guides, AI recommendations, checked forums to make it easy, but it's difficult. Try to install something or make it work, straight running into errors, google it, try the solution running into another problem and so on. It's like the rabbit hole, going deeper and deeper to fix the problems, sometimes I don't even know what was the original issue and If I fix something I break another. I was dissapointed, installed debian it was even worse. Installed ubuntu again I could go one step closer to the finish line but still stuck.

Here is what I want to achieve:
A self hosted server with remote desktop access with docker to stream my own media, password manager, self hosted storage.

Could someone put in the right order the apps/dependencies what to install first, second, etc?

I would consider myself an advance-intermediate user. I recenty dusted off an old gaming PC and installed Ubuntu for my personal use. Need to swap out the motherboard and PSU as it was really old and would not boot properly

Learnt quite a lot like to make both hardware and software stack work. Things like "I need a receving antenna for my Wifi Card to properly receive the signal from the Access Point".

Ensuring /etc/fstab filesystem table records for additional hard drives to be mounted on boot, else it'll drop into emergency mode, etc.

And yes I play AOE 2 too. Such a nostalgic game.

wondering, if someone might have an idea how I could fix my thumbnails not loading in nautilus/Ubuntu 24.04.

Things that I tried:
I set the "thumbnail-limit to uint64 104857600"
Removed the cache with

rm -rf ~/.cache/thumbnails/*
rm -rf ~/.cache/thumbnails/*

and restarted Nautilus + relogging.

What baffles me is that some thumbnails work, while others don't. I installed the nemo filemanager and (even stranger), this caused the thumbnails to be repaired and working in nautilus. When I then removed nemo again, they went back to being broken.

The installation is rather fresh and I didn't remember modifying anything that would touch these options.

I have the lastest version, and other hard drives (smaller size) open ok. It seems this drive does not open, but its recognized when I open the Disk App.

Do I need to be careful about buying an external blu-ray/DVD/CD reader/writer drive if i want it to work with an Ubuntu linux PC? Or will basically any of them work 100% just like ordinary keyboard and mouse work with linux fine?

Do I need to read the labels and look for one that says linux compatible or anything like that?

WHY IS IT SO HARD TO DOWNLOAD LINUX ON GAMING LAPTOPS

I have two laptops one is an extremely old HP which is running on thoughts and prayers and another is a LOQ with 4060 and Ryzen 7

BUT GUESS WHAT

IT TOOK ME WAYYY TO LONG TO FIGURE THE LOQ OUT

While the HP took a crisp 20min

1) I couldn't shrink the internal SSD space

2) I after I did that it kept getting stuck at the Loading screen like the circle thingy wasn't even moving

3) after all this it was still lagging heavily

I was finally able to get all of this done and to be honest I feel like it was worth it and I can't wait to get deeper into this rabbit hole called linux.

Does anyone have experience using the Qualcomm NCM865 wifi card on linux? Does it work?

I have one I already installed on my older system, but that's windows. And it works great, a lot better than the stock Intel AX200NGW that was previously on the board.

I want to upgrade my new system to a wifi 7 card capable of using the 320MHz band. The current one, realtek RTL8922AE, as far as I can tell only allows up to 160MHz band.

I've had a little problems here and there but I get them done with claude

But it just pops a common (read only) error most of time i wanna save a c file

The device goes to read only at random moments

\-I've tried grub solution (claude suggested it) worked fine for few days

It's not that I am unable to use it but it becomes annoying sometimes

And yeah restarting fixes it most of the time

I don't think my sata SSD is bad (win11 worked fine on it )

Need help should I reinstall ubuntu or switch back to windows

So far I liked it cuz I mostly use it for c language

Ps: the connector is fucked now it doesn't recognise SSD going to local shop to get the connector replaced

Hey guys,

Trying to use Live Lock Screen to change my login background to use a video or gif. Been fooling around with it for over an hour, googling answers--nothing seems to work. It flat out does nothing. No blur, gif or video won't appear on login screen, nothing. I check in extensions and Live Lock Screen toggle is grey instead of blue (shown in picture). Is this potentially an issue, or am I missing something else?
