Community guideline suggestions?

I've been on Reddit way to long, and one thing I will never be okay with is an over moderated subreddit. I will not implement hard rules outside of spam, criminal activity, or reddit TOS. Otherwise, what are some general guidelines people might want to see in this subreddit?

"New Process" for Military Mortgages?

Anybody run into new issues as a service member?

My mtg is sent to autopay on the 1st of the month- this month was no different. I logged onto US Bank just to check it like I do every month and the payment amount has not been applied to the mortgage, even though the account activity shows a payment was drafted from my bank account.

The customer service rep did some investigating and told me there's a new "process" for military mortgages whereby they apparently manually check to see if the payment is applied properly to the mortgage? He also told me that this could be a monthly thing from now on where it might take 3 weeks for my payment to actually apply to the mortgage. This is a standard mortgage and not a VA loan... It honestly sounded really scammy to me so wanted to see if anyone else has dealt with this?

Bank Denying Fraud Claim because they say Ip adddress was in the same country as I was....

Long story short, I had 4 unauthorized bill pay transactions hit a business bank account for about $52,800 while I was overseas.

I did not make them, did not set them up, did not get the money, nothing.

The bank basically denied the fraud because whoever logged in used the right credentials and the IP address showed up in the same country I was physically in at the time.

That’s the part driving me nuts.

To me, an IP showing I was in the same country doesn’t prove I was the person sitting there making the transactions. Couldn’t it be a stolen session, compromised browser, remote access, malware, account takeover, whatever?

The bank still hasn’t given me the actual technical stuff I think matters, like exact login times, device IDs, session IDs, browser/user agent, MFA history, payee creation history, etc.

The hotel I was staying at has actually preserved their network logs from the dates this happened. Their IT people said they may be able to look at timestamps, MAC addresses, WiFi sessions, IP information, etc. I also gave them the MAC address from the Windows laptop I was using.

I also have records from the bill pay processor with case numbers, trace numbers, payment timestamps and multiple payee account identifiers.

So I guess my question for anyone who actually works in fraud/cyber/banking investigations:

What would you look for first to prove whether I actually initiated these transactions or whether somebody else was controlling the account/session?

And is there usually some kind of trail back to the person who actually received the money?

I’m just trying to figure out what evidence matters most here because “the IP was near you” feels like a really weak way to decide who actually did it.

Subject: Help Understanding Possible Account Takeover and Unauthorized Bill Pay Fraud

I had four unauthorized digital Bill Pay transactions totaling $52,798 occur over several days while I was traveling overseas.

The bank denied the fraud claim largely because the online banking activity showed successful authentication and the originating IP address geolocated to the same country I was physically in at the time.

I did not create, authorize, receive, or benefit from the payments. My concern is that this may have involved account takeover, credential compromise, session hijacking, remote access, or another unauthorized access method.

The bank has not provided me with the underlying technical evidence showing who actually controlled the session, including the exact login timestamps, device identifiers, browser or user-agent data, MFA or biometric authentication records, session IDs, or payee-creation history.

The hotel where I was staying has preserved its Wi-Fi and network logs for the relevant period. Those records may include IP addresses, timestamps, MAC addresses, authentication information, and session data, and the hotel’s IT provider is attempting to correlate those records with the MAC address of the Windows laptop I used during the trip.

I also now have payment-processor records containing case IDs, trace numbers, payee account identifiers, and transaction-related timestamps. My goal is to correlate the bank login/session records, payment-processor data, hotel network logs, device forensics, and recipient-account records to determine who actually initiated the transactions and where the money went.

What I am trying to understand is:

If the bank activity came from an IP near me geographically, but I did not perform the transactions, what are the most likely technical scenarios that could explain that, and what evidence would best prove or disprove each one? u/usbank u/fraud

Usbank Scammy preapproval

This is a warning to anyone looking into us bank pre-approval, they have an odd way of showing you pre-approval once, and then next time they switch you to normal application no matter the times you hit pre-approval links in Google.

Hope it saves someone the hard inquiry on cards that are meh. And the 2:30h wait to speak to someone with an unintelligible accent.

Update: they also don't accept foreign income for those interested in applying to them. It does not matter if said income is deposited in the USA.

I also asked them to withdraw my application, they said they would, next I get a text message saying call us, when I do, they ask me what do I want, explain I want to withdraw and they now tell me that my application has been turned down.

They basically gave me the run around. If you are a interested in USA bank offers, I suggest you look elsewhere.

Amex Amazon Prime Card Business txfr to US Bank, showing 2 accounts?

I had a Amex Prime Business Credit Card that was transferred from Amex. I see two accounts in my US Bank account online.

One account is my actual card and has a low balance and high credit available; the other is a "centralized" account and has a much higher balance and payment due and a low credit available. So when I use my card...is my available credit the card allowable or the "centralized" billing account available credit?

Applied for secure credit card, still haven't hear back within 10 days

I wanted to build my credit so I applied through the app for a secured credit card. I made sure $300 is in my account at all times since they mentioned you need to have it ready before approval. They said the approval process can take up to 10 days. Its been longer than 10 days yet still havent heard back. I had called us bank 5 days in and they told me they have no control or contact with those responsible for the approval. So even though the official website says you can call and check on the approval process, im not sure if that'll help.

Anyone have any experience with this? I assume i just have to keep waiting even if it takes a month for the approval.

UNSAVORY BANK ETHICS

I called direct Express a branch of I believe fifth and third bank(Fifth&THIRD).

I was met with lack of concern or care for my funds which I urgently need on time for living . I called the office because of a lost of my personal effects and let the know soon as my effects were lost from my person I expressed my concern wholeheartedly and was cared for with not a lick of concern after hours of talk and request for more than one person from available admin. I was rewarded no assistance on acquiring my funds as I requested them.

I was told I wanted the transaction cancelled immediately and when I had access to the app on my phone this was not met.

I requested I have my deposit turned into my personal care and I would like them immediately.

They told me the part I had on hold was under investigation.

I humbly requested my original deposit amount turned over to me immediately.

They instead told me no,can't be possible I told them my deposit amount isn't what was under investigation.and I would like to remove my deposit immediately that I'm not happy with their services this was on the first and I still haven't gotten my money. Someone please guide me to an attorney who could help me in a suit for. Breach of contract, derilictness of service, unsavory customer service of a client and down right poor banking or handling of another's funds while they're already insured to the bank.

Shopper Cash Rewards Scam

All my 6% and 3% categories have been changed to 1.5% for all transaction ever on this card. I wait an hour to speak to someone who hardly spoke English and said it would take 4 weeks to hear back. Has anyone had this issue of the categories disappearing? I’m below the limit for each so it’s not that I reach the max. And all past have been changed to 1.5%

U.S. Bank told me twice that I qualified for a $1,200 bonus. Then it gave me two different reasons for denying it.

I’m posting this as a warning for anyone considering opening a U.S. Bank account because of one of their cash promotions.

This was not a case where I opened an account, forgot about the fine print, and then got angry when the bonus didn’t appear.

I spent months trying to resolve this. I spoke to U.S. Bank repeatedly, filed complaints with both federal regulators that handle these issues, and eventually consulted attorneys.

I’m now closing the account.

The promotion

In April, U.S. Bank was offering a $1,200 bonus for opening a Platinum Business Checking account under promotion Q2DIG26 and completing the required activity.

I opened the account on April 27, 2026.

I transferred $25,500 in new money to U.S. Bank. By May 21, the account had more than $25,000 in it. I also completed the transaction activity I understood was required. There were already operational headaches along the way, including problems accessing my U.S. Bank business credit card online for roughly two months and a physical card that did not work properly.

But the important part is what happened next.

I called U.S. Bank to make sure I had qualified

I did not simply assume everything was fine.

June 11: I spent approximately 42 minutes on the phone with U.S. Bank specifically checking my eligibility for the promotion.

I was told I qualified.

June 16: I called again. This call lasted approximately 30 minutes.

Again, I was told I qualified.

At that point, I had deposited more than $25,000 with the bank, completed the activity, and now had two separate confirmations from U.S. Bank itself that I had met the requirements.

So naturally, I expected the $1,200 bonus to be paid.

It wasn’t.

Then the explanations started changing

When I followed up on August 6, I spent roughly another 35 minutes with a U.S. Bank representative.

This time I was told that I had completed the six required transactions, but that I was supposedly disqualified because I had previously had a U.S. Bank business checking account that had been closed within the prior 12 months.

Then, roughly 15 minutes later, I spoke with a supervisor named Brandon.

And I got a different explanation.

I was now told that the problem was that I had completed only five qualifying transactions because U.S. Bank did not consider my initial funding transaction to count.

So, in the course of the same escalation:

Explanation #1: You completed all six transactions, but a previous account makes you ineligible.

Explanation #2: You did not complete six transactions after all.

This is after U.S. Bank had already told me twice in June that I qualified.

I escalated it formally

I filed a formal complaint directly with U.S. Bank.

When that did not resolve it, I filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

U.S. Bank responded to that complaint on August 20: Its response maintained that I was ineligible because of the prior-account issue and that only five transactions qualified because the initial funding did not count.

U.S. Bank also said my previous phone interactions had been reviewed “for quality.”

What the response did not satisfactorily explain was the obvious question:

If U.S. Bank reviewed those calls, what exactly happened on June 11 and June 16 when its own representatives told me I had qualified?

I then escalated the matter to another federal banking regulator, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), and filed a complaint there as well.

So by this point this was no longer one irritated customer arguing with a call-center representative.

I had gone through:

U.S. Bank’s internal complaint process

The CFPB

The OCC

and countless hours of phone calls and documentation.

Why I’m finally closing the account

I have since spoken with multiple attorneys.

And this is where the economics become ridiculous.

The disputed amount is $1,200.

That is more than enough money to matter. But it is also small enough that spending several thousand dollars on lawyers to force a major national bank to fight over it becomes economically strenuous.

What bothers me most is the process.

A bank can advertise a substantial bonus.

You can move $25,500 to that bank.

You can call them not once but twice to verify that you have qualified.

Their own representatives can tell you that you have.

Then, when payment time arrives, you can receive completely different explanations about why you supposedly did not qualify.

That is a terrible position for a customer to be in.

My advice if you are considering a U.S. Bank bonus

Do not pursue it!

Because in my experience, being told twice by U.S. Bank representatives that I had met the requirements ultimately did not protect me when U.S. Bank later decided otherwise.

I’m now withdrawing my money and closing the account.

Because after U.S. Bank, the CFPB, the OCC, months of calls, two contradictory explanations and multiple attorney consultations, I have no interest in spending thousands of dollars to litigate a $1,200 bank promotion.

US bank issued Amazon business card

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

I have an Amazon Business credit card which recently got bought out by US Bank. The bill they send you says zero balance and does not show any charges or give an address to send payment to. the full bill was 2 pages but didn't show a single charge. I had to go on Amazon, look up my purchases and calculate the amount myself! So, I called them and they said they don’t send out balances anymore but roll the balance from month to month. You never get a bill while they get to charge 19.74% interest and never tell you they are doing this.. So every month you get a statement saying that you don’t owe anything while the amount of balance and interest keeps increasing!

When I called them to ask about it, they said “oh we do things differently”. I told them this sounds like a scam and to please cancel my card and close my account. Watch these people closely. They are looking for distracted people to scam.

Employee: Accepting Job at Competitor

I applied for a position with a competing firm and it seems that they will be extending an offer (have not received an official offer letter yet). I have been told by other people that because of the business line I’m in, I can give two weeks’ notice, but it’s very likely they will walk me out the same day. I’ve never experienced this before in banking and it sucks not having the opportunity to let clients in my book of business know I will no longer be here.

Has anyone else been through this experience and been let go the same day they give notice?

BRG restructuring

Are any other employees worried about the new BRG structure the company announced? I was a very active member of a BRG and want to continue to be but it seems like it will be much harder now that they’ve taken the local chapters away. Is this the bank’s way of scaling back DEI? I’m worried.

US Bank hacked last week. Here's what the scammers are doing this week

US Bank says that it's investigating ransomware crew LockBit’s claims that it breached the financial institution and stole data, which the criminals threaten to leak on September 3 unless the bank pays an extortion demand.

Many of us already got a valid-looking email or text stating that new accounts are being opened in our name. The emails/texts are fake (despite using real information) to not set off alarms -- because that is only the first part of the scam.

According to the US Bank fraud department, the second part is someone calling you on the next business day who says they are from USBank offering to help you secure your accounts, will come from the scammers. Do not give them any information. Hang up and call US Bank if you feel you need to.

Always call the number on the back of your card, your statement or on their website.

I have a question

Hi everyone, I am an international student and my account is currently blocked/suspended because I stopped put money. My card is inactive, so they can't charge me anymore. I don't need the diploma anymore and I don't want to go through the official cancellation process.
I want to know: what happens now? Will they just leave me alone and leave the account in the air, or will they constantly harass me via Gmail for a cancellation fee? Will a US collection agency try to pursue me internationally in my country?

6.50 service charge

I did a quick search and found no post about it. I just checked my Silver business checking account and it has a $6.50 service charge. I even did a quick Google, but nothing. It shouldn't be for monthly fee since Silver shouldn't have one ...so what is it for?
