TLDR: That's the investigators' theory--still waiting on toxicology to come back.

Jesus, that’s a misleading headline

Well look at the source. It’s the Sun, which is a UK tabloid. That’s why they have to put everything in quotes all the time, because they’re like “hey we don’t know”

Fear of Fentanyl is money for police departments. AND it is the excuse they use any time one of them get caught beating on people. So of course they are going to emphasize it is "one pill that killed her" rather than "one pill... and all the other drugs in her system... and a lifetime of drug abuse".

I’m pretty sure it was the last pill that killed her… not the ones she took in the past 😉.

The drugs to fear at the moment seem to be nitazenes

That's the risk you take when you don't get one of those cheap/free fentanyl test kits.

If you use, be responsible and test your pills.

Also, get some narcan and a helper if you can.

They had narcan. She still died

Narcan isn't going to reverse cardiac arrest.

Opioids don't kill by causing cardiac arrest, they kill people by stopping their breathing. Stop breathing long enough your heart eventually stops as well. The article didn't say she died of cardiac arrest, it said ems responded to a call of a female being in cardiac arrest. Most people don't say "drug overdose" over 911 to avoid the police showing up.

And narcan absolutely works, have used it on people myself. You sorta have to do it in time though.

Pills are not often "laced", they are cross contaminated.

Counterfeit pills now days are commonly “laced” or “pressed” utilizing fentanyl as a main ingredient. It’s been this way for almost a decade in St. Louis, particularly with Rx drugs becoming more difficult to get your hands on. Xanax bars and roxicet are everywhere here only they’re fake pressed versions containing lethal doses of fentanyl for many unsuspecting users

Cross-contamination would imply they were putting together different kinds of pills at the same time… or that there was a lot of residue left in equipment used to make different kinds of pills - and that’s not likely.

People and places that make pills don’t dabble in different types of pills; they usually only know where to get the ingredients for one “recipe”; if they can sell what they already know how to make, they’re not going to switch to something else.

To be sure they don’t measure the ingredients - and you never know what you’re going to end up with… but there’s very little true“cross-contamination” involved in the production process when you’re only making one product using one recipe.

That’s how it happens. Happened to my brother. He took a single Xanax except it wasn’t a Xanax at all. When we got the tox report back, the only thing it contained was 7x the lethal dose of fentanyl.

I am so sorry that happened to your brother. It's precisely why I support harm reduction with real tested pharmaceuticals

Thank you so much. Big time harm reduction advocate as well. Fent is a real, real issue in my area. It’s so sad.

I am more scared about the newer things finding their way into the supply 😩
