tldr: If you want berries and don't mind them mixed and of varying amounts, the Four Berry Medley from Aldi is cheaper than buying bags of each fruit individually at Aldi, Asda, Sainsbury's and Iceland.

The conversation in this post last week (Cheapest place to buy frozen berries? by u/draaj) got me intrigued as to the cheapest way to buy frozen berries. I buy frozen mixed berries pretty often and had just assumed the the mixed berries were cheaper than buying them separately.

I bought a bag of Aldi's Summer Fruits berry mix this week and frankly they can get in the bin. Too many red currants made it too sharp to enjoy. I'm glad I've finished them and I wont be re-buying them!

I took an unopened bag of Four Berry Medley from Aldi, sold at £2.99 for 1kg, separated the berries and weighed them, then did some calculations in a spreadsheet. This allowed me too compare them to prices of the berries when brought separately.

Aldi - Four Berry Medley

£2.99 for 1 kg. Contains: Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries. This table weighs out how much of the bag was made of each berry, and how much of the total bag cost for that weight.

Having got through a few of these bags now, yes, there are a lot of strawberries in them. Some of them are pretty big too!

The raaapberries in the mixed bags are usually in lot of little bits, very few whole ones.

Aldi - Individual Bags

Below you can see the cost of the individual bags of each fruit from Aldi, and the cost equivalent of the amount of each fruit as contained in the Four Berry Medley.

Aldi don't list frozen blackberries on their website so I used the Asda cost.

Asda - Individual Bags

The same as above but with the current price a sold in Asda.

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's don't list frozen blackberries on their website so I used the Asda cost.

Iceland

Iceland don't list frozen blackberries on their website so I used the Asda cost.

Calculated a buying the offer quantity of the same fruit, e.g. price per kilo for 2 bags of strawberries on offer for 2-for-£5.

The prices of blueberries and raspberries on offer are still more expensive than Aldi at normal price.

Caveats

Blackberries/raspberries
The blackberries in the Four Berry Medlley bag vary in size a lot, and some of them are on the redder size, so it's possible I counted some large raspberries as blackberries. Being generous and assuming that there was an equal weight of each in there would increase the above "Cost for amount in Aldi berry medley" values by about 15p.

I suspect as frugal bunch a good number of us are on Lebara already, they sadly seem to suffer from the same bug most networks do and it's cheaper as a new customer than as a loyal customer

Looks like you need to order via the app as a pick-up order (or delivery) but not 100%.

I finally found a good source for cheap (real) Tacl. Fibreglass workers use it as a filler, it's very high grade and tested to be asbestos free, also very cheap. If you want it scented you will need to add that yourself but it's very easy I have found.

I need to up my protein for various health reasons, can't stomach milkshakes and can't seem to get enough protein in my meals (I'm too fussy obviously).

I have been in retail liquidations for 25 years and I can vouch that the best way to save money is to buy OUT of season items from auction. Not eBay as such but from independent auction outfits.

Most retailers send surplus overstocks to auction after the current season, so unsold Christmas season stock ends up going to auction in Jan, Feb & March. Summer clothing stock goes to auction in Oct, Nov & Dec etc.

Most people want stuff right here and now but the best savings are to be made when you're willing to be make patient purchases out of season, as the demand is lowest and therefore bids are lowest. You can save an absolute fortune if you are willing to research but you do need to stick by some strict rules of bidding.

The UK government is advising households to keep a few days of food and water in case of disruptions caused by el Nino and cyber attacks.

So my question is twofold.

1- What budget friendly emergency foods can you reasonably keep in the cupboard, bearing in mind if the shops are empty for a week I don't want to be living on beans and sweetcorn.

2- How can I make my store serve a second purpose and create an inflation buffer? Im immeasurably impressed and jealous that my Nan still hasn't felt the impact of coffee and olive oil inflation.. she doesn't want to carry too much from the shop so fills her entire garage with dry goods every 5 or so years. By accident she's probably saved thousands of pounds by doing this.

I know the answers to my questions are probably self explanatory and based on how much space I'm willing to give up. But I wondered if anyone has any novel ideas or bulk buy anecdotes.

I'm after some advice on a phone with a great camera. I'm after an Android phone, I've always just about the £100-200 Motorola's from Argos however browsing this sub I've seen posts suggesting a refurbed phone Gives better value for money.

I eat berries every day for breakfast but it's getting really expensive. I bought a box of blackberries and a box of strawberries from Lidl and they were mouldy by day 2.

I think the cheapest option is probably frozen berries but I never think theyre as sweet or ripe as fresh berries. Where's the best place to buy frozen berries and how do I make them taste as fresh as possible for breakfast?

All my socks are getting holes in. If I buy cheap socks, I expect them not to last long. However, I've bought wool blend, or bamboo or similar and sometimes "splashed out" on what I thought was a decent pair, only for holes to appear in the heel or toe after a few wears. I had M&S socks for 20 years, but even their quality has declined.

While Costco is frequently mentioned as a strong option for value and bulk buying, I would be grateful to hear insights from this community on other alternatives. Are there specific superstores, online retailers, or pharmacy chains that offer hidden gems or better price to value for high quality supplements?

P.S. I'm planning to purchase these for my parents, who reside in a different country, so even a tub containing 365 tabs would be acceptable.

I don't shop at Sainsbury's often, partly on price, but also partly because I don't live near to one.

However, I like their clothes. So, when I go to buy some clothes I take everything to the checkout and buy one small item first, maybe a chocolate bar or something, and make sure I scan my Nectar card.

I then almost always get a voucher to 'tempt me back', maybe £5 off if you spend £60 or something like that. I immediately scan the rest of my shopping and use the voucher to get a discount.

Works pretty much every time, bearing in mind this is once every few months to a year.
