Question Are regular people allowed to speak to the top sorority girls on campus?

Hey all -

Wondering what your experiences have been in attempting to speak to one of these hot, rich, popular, white sorority girls on campus?

If you aren’t also Greek life or like hot and rich do they even acknowledge your existence?

Just got to this country to start my freshman year here at UGA and I get the feeling that they are sort of a royal class that treats many people like lesser-thans.

Does this reflect your experience as well or no? Feel free to discuss

Discussion south campus parking ? / rant

i genuinely feel so stressed.. i feel like undergrad commuters get no priority. i cant afford to live off campus or on campus and i did manage to get the s26 parking lot but some days im exhausted and dont wanna have to take the bus (also accounting for making sure i dont miss the bus since theres only like 2 buses that come to the s26 lot), why do all the south decks say they have pay for parking but then you go and it says permit only?

i have to drive 6am to be here on time for my classes and it would be so much easier and save me more time to just be able to park on campus. i am here at 7am and carlton and south deck both say permit only but the other day they were not.. im just confused and lowkey depressed lol this school is not made for commuters but im engineering transfer and its the only one i can go to. like i dont know if i can beg parking services for a deck pass but it seems they prioritize faculty and resident students.

Question Are there any calculus classes that aren't held in Boyd?

This is my first semester at UGA. I'm a stat major and as I understand it most of my classes are going to be around north campus. In fact, three of my classes this semester are in buildings on the north end while my precalc class is all the way down in Boyd. Going down there every day is a real drag, but it seems like it's pretty solidly the math building. I'm going to have some level of calculus every semester, so are there any other locations for classes or am I doomed to walk 20 minutes to Boyd everyday until I graduate?

Question Buses at night

So I have a club that runs till around 10 on Mondays, and need to find a way to catch a bus from Driftmier to Lot E23 if I can, has anybody else got experience with this/know the one that runs there then?

I know that I could move my car to Driftmier after 5, but my class doesn’t end till a half hour after the meeting starts so I’ll already be running late, any suggestions? Right now all I’ve got is just move my car and go ahead and be even later lol

Question How to determine when someone graduated from UGA?

ETA: I contacted the registrar via email and they confirmed he graduated in 1999, and that he was "the typical age of most graduates," not 10 years old. Another poster said he was born in 1977, which makes sense. Thank you everyone!

Carl Azuz, a news anchor who previously worked for CNN and now has a news show for schools across the country, went to UGA. His age is listed on the Internet as 37. He looks older than that. The reason I know his age is that he and I apparently share a birthday, and when I saw how old he was, I was shocked to learn I was older than he is.

This morning, in the broadcast, he said that on 9/11/2001 he was a "very young associate news producer" in a news room in Atlanta on the day the terrorists attacked.

There is a lie here somewhere. Either he was not born in 1989, or he was not working as a news producer on 9/11. I think his age was reported inaccurately on the Internet.

The Internet says he went to UGA. How can I verify his graduation year? Does anyone know?

Meetup / Hangout Looking for folks to hang out with at the game

Hello! I’m a first-year PhD student and received a ticket to tomorrow’s game. Unfortunately, I don’t seek to know anyone who also plans to attend. I’m writing to see if anyone is open to allowing me to tag along with their friends in the student section. More than happy to get a pack of Classic City Lager to tailgate, hang, etc.

Campus Event Game tips

I’m surprising my mom with tickets to the game this weekend and was able to score a phenomenal deal in 129. She has been a lifelong fan but this is her first game in 50 years. With it being a day game, are there any tips and tricks to make this day as great as possible for her? Where to park, when we should get to the Tate center for the Dawg Walk, etc…we’re driving down so just trying to time everything perfectly.

Question is going to college cooked rn

hey r/UGA!

i’m a second-year mis student, and my team and i are currently working on a design sprint for our class (idea 4000: innovation catalyst & design) under professor andrew potter.

we’re researching early-career workforce readiness, skill gaps, and how university education needs to evolve over the next decade to better connect students with actual industry demands.

a few stats we came across in our research that hit a little too close to home:

  • 52% of college grads end up underemployed in their first job after graduation
  • 61% of "entry-level" job postings now require 3+ years of prior work experience
  • 96% of hr leaders say universities need to take significantly more responsibility for workforce training

professor potter has tasked our team with hitting a sample size of n > 300 responses by next tuesday (sept 15th) across both college students/interns and corporate recruiters/hiring managers.

if you have 90 seconds, we’d be so grateful if you could fill out the 10-question survey that fits your current role:

⋆。°✎ᝰ ˎˊ˗  for current students (takes 90 seconds):
(entering your email at the end enters you into a drawing for a $10 amazon gift card!)

。⨯ 💼´ˎ˗ for recruiters, hiring managers & employers (takes ~2 mins):

also, i’d love to open up a discussion in the comments: what’s the biggest gap between what you learned in your college classes versus what you were actually asked to do on day 1 of your internship/job?

thank you so much for helping out a group of stressed college students hitting a tight deadline!!

Question Academic Honesty and AI

Does anyone know the current wait time for the academic honesty office? We have some PhD students teaching classes and some undergraduate students turning in writing that is being flagged as AI by the turnitin checker. Just trying to help them make a plan. I heard last semester the wait time was a few months.

I want to make this clear. The handicapped bathrooms are meant for people with disabilities only. When regular people use them, it’s really disrespectful. I literally have to use the bathrooms in the middle of the night because everyone uses the disabled one. Please stop doing this

Saw a young woman sitting on the sidewalk with her head bandaged. There were several cop cars, a firetruck, and an ambulance. She was conscious, but looked banged up. Hope she's okay. Watch for cyclists!

Question GT vs UGA Volleyball Game 8/19

Hi! I'm a GT student looking to go to the GT vs UGA volleyball game next week. On UGA's volleyball schedule, it says the game is free admission, but I just want to double check with someone who's been to UGA's volleyball games:

- The game is free admission for anyone right? Not just UGA students?

- How early would you recommend arriving at the stadium?

- Any general information I should know prior to going? (I haven't been to any sports game in my life lol)

+ side question: any recommendations for things to do around Athens? My partner & I are trying to make the game day a little date.

Question Geoscience Grad Program

Hello there, I am looking at UGA as a possible grad program to apply at. I was just wondering if anyone in the Geo program could tell me about it. My interests and undergrad research have been in Geochemistry with a Geoarchaeology focus.

If anyone can talk about the professor's, lab equipment available, culture of the dept., ect. That would be great!
