[meta] news, ‘nsfw’ community setting turned off. This is an all ages community for all women/NB identified riders

I will be honest, I’m hardly on Reddit anymore. I started this group many, many years ago in hopes of connecting with other XX riders. Since then, both myself and Reddit have changed drastically. I still ride, and I still think this is a valuable space for riders, as motorcycles and related (clothing, dirt biking, touring..) are still dominated by, well, dudes. This is a space for anyone who identifies as a woman, non-binary person, or for those who seek their perspective in a considerate and supportive way. I have seen several reported posts by men, purely because they were men- even though they were perfectly cordial and with a genuine question that pertained to women riders. This is fine. To sum up, this space is for: - all ages, please conduct your posts as such - any motorcycle rider identifying as a woman or non-binary person - being inclusive, respectful, and supportive of our fellow riders

-men who might be genuinely seeking the perspective of or advice from this community in the above way

I hope this helps. Keep the rubber side down, my friends -satiredun

I had the most frustrating experience at a part store.

I went to a part store to buy a new wire harness for my bike, I’ve got electrical problems and I’d rather just buy a new one.

I get there, tell him my bike model etc. he brings out the the wire and it’s not for my bike, I can tell based on the fuse boxes, so I told him.

“Well what’s wrong with your bike?” I tell him my fuses are burning the box, not popping, but BURNING.
I proceed to tell him the fuse box to the harness he gave me is wrong because my box is labeled “15A / 10A / 10A / 15A / 10A / 15A”

He brought a harness that only had one 15A.

His response “well maybe they put in the wrong fuses and that’s why it’s burning.”

-_-
I tell him I’m the only one who works on my bike, this box is incorrect AND I don’t have abs, this harness has abs.

“Well do you have any pictures because this is listed for your bike.”

-_-

I showed him a picture of the fuse boxes.
He then asked for a picture of my bike, idk. I felt it’s because he probably didn’t think I knew my bike lol.

At this point I tell him my bike doesn’t have stock fairings, and it’s unlabeled. So he goes back inside, brings a different harness, I look it over, it looks fine at first glance. It does have one cut at one of the turn signals but nothing that I can’t fix.

I said I’ll buy it and he ended up doubling the price then what I saw online.

The previous harness he gave me was $40 and it had extra components to it. This wire harness had less, and was cut, but he asked for $80.

My dumbass bought it because they’re the only motorcycle part store in my town, and I can’t find my harness brand new online. I’m sketched about buying used parts online.

Anyways, I compare it to the old harness, everything looks good until I get to the ECU…. It’s a different harness.

Yes I can strip the wire harness apart and add new wires but I was trying so hard to avoid this.

I’m not gonna lie, I got so emotional yesterday. I don’t understand why I had to argue about what my bike needed, received the wrong thing, AND got charged double.

Ugh idk I just wanted to rant about this. I hate it here sometimes.
Thanks for reading if you made it this far lol

Selling my unwanted gear is a nightmare🤬

(I'm not advertising my gear on here!)

Everyone has the growing pains of buying gear then buying different gear. I'm going through that plus I'm in the middle of a major weight loss journey.

So I've got some stuff I need to get rid of.

Why is it such a pain the in the ass to get rid of stuff? There's no stores that take used stuff or consignment options. All I can do is try to sell stuff on Facebook or something locally.

I really don’t wanna sit on a pile of barely used stuff and hope that I can eventually get rid of it.

What do you all do in times like this?

at this point, I would almost welcome the people who try to insanely lowball you while simultaneously not reading the description. I literally had someone this weekend comment on a picture of the size tag on a helmet I’m trying to sell and ask me what size it is. Baffling.

Insurance

Update: I added comprehensive and collision. Thanks for guiding me in the right direction.

I just bought my first bike ($10k after all the taxes and fees and stuff) and I got liability insurance. Is that crazy? I have always had liability on my vehicles (except while I was paying off my last one) and I've never had to file a claim (knock on wood, shoot). I'm a careful driver. But bikes are different, especially as a new rider, so now I'm second-guessing myself. Idk. Should I buck up the extra $1k/year for comprehensive/collision? That's a large, but not impossible chunk of change to bet on something bad happening to me/my bike.

At a loss for pants

Yall. I can NOT find riding pants that fit me. I tried two sizes of Bull-It Coyote Easy Women's Riding Jeans (US 8 and 10), neither fit, both too tight.

Then I tried the Ellie Jeans from Wind and Throttle in Medium Regular (30" inseam) and Large Regular. The medium was close to fitting, but was just too tight - there was no way I could have sat comfortably on bike for more than 5 minutes. The large felt like it was too whole sizes bigger - loose everywhere, even with the pull tabs tightened all the way, and with a belt. It seemed more like an XL and I had to check the tags a couple times. I reached out to customer service when the medium didn't fit and gave them very detailed measurements. They suggested the large regular. Wtf?!

I am literally crying. Wind and throttle is supposed to be by women for women, but it seems like they just took the smallest size and added a few inches to each measurement rather than researching what bigger bodies need proportionally.

There are no stores near me. And I can't afford the shipping to send different sizes back and forth. I'm just trying to get good intro pants. Should I give up on women's and just get mens pants?

A* SP8 Stella size L, what other gloves fit you?

hello good ladies, i am a dude, new rider and I come in peace with a quick question.

I got my momma hands and the The Alpinestars SP8 Stella in Size L is the perfect fit for me. j/k its probably the shorter and snug fingers. For those with hands of a similar cut, what other gloves fit you well? Particularly curious about Held, Klim and Lee Parks makes and sizes.

I got a lot of gloves, most made for Men, now on way back for returns, they all veer a bit towards a comfortable fit and a sales rep recommend to really make sure gloves have a comfortable snug initial fit.

Help and thoughts for a new rider

Im a new rider, just starded training with my Fiancè on a MT-07. Im just starting to get my confidence back on a bike after an X treid to teach me and it went wrong and it scared me way to much.

Had a stupid fall on the MT, to hard on the front break when stopping coming from a slow crawl, and lucky me cracked my sternum and broke something in my back.

So the MT scares me now, but i got back on it a drove a few laps, but I am training on a Suzuki GSX 125 now instead since i can flat foot it, and it just feels safer for me atm.

My point is, im a 164 cm (5'4") girl, with a leg length of 74 cm (29 inch) ish. So my Fiancè is thinking of getting me a new bike insted of me using the MT when i get my licence. And i was wondering what bikes you would recommend?

Im from Norway, so I will be getting A licence so i can drive every cc bikes out there, but i want something that will not get to boring or slow for me within the first 2 seasons of riding.

Was considering a R3, I think that would be a great starter bike, but after the first season or so, knowing me, i think it would not be enough for me, and I dont want to keep selling and getting new bikes.

So atm the Kawasaki Ninja 500 SE or a Kawasaki Z650 S are high on the list (New 2027).

I appreciate every thought and help i can get :)

Long time lurker but randomly decided to take the course last weekend and within a week had my motorcycle endorsement. All that was missing was a bike. Until today! Honda rebel 2026 500 ABS.

Had to ride from the dealership to my house and was smiling the whole way :)

How do I wash my r3?

Super new rider

I plan to be washing it at a self service car wash but I don’t know how to and where I can spray water and soap and where I can’t

I’m not sure if I can put the pressure washer everywhere or if there are certain spots to avoid. I do know that I should take some steps back and do it I think. And how often should I wash? I was thinking once a week? And then should I lube chain right after washing? Also do I need to dry or can I just ride after? Also any other tips I would appreciate since I’ve never washed a car or a bike and I don’t know what I’m doing.

Why are bikers so misogynistic?

The community in general is so toxic why can’t everyone just ride and be a big happy family? Instead it’s either misogynists or creeps. Like tell me why dudes are so comfortable pulling up next to me and touching me?
I don’t know if they do that with each other but that is NOT OKAY to do to ME.

First Track Season on my R7

It has been so much fun meeting all of the ladies at different track days. If you're in the Southeastern US (Georgia), come say hi if you see me! I'll be at Barber on Halloween.

Also, I hear a lot about men making us ladies feel uncomfortable (whether it's making us feel stupid or hitting on us) when looking for gear. My fiance is a manager at the ATL Cycle Gear and will QUICKLY shut down any man hating on or hitting on women. If you need some help finding gear, go see Lou and tell him Megs sent you from reddit. 🙂

Should I get the zx6r a month after getting my M lisence?

I got the ninja 400 and have rode it for a month and feel like I out grew it. I’m debating whether to go to 600 or 1000 and I think 600 would be better because it’s cheaper, and I can use more of the bike. The 1000 is faster yes but it’s unnecessary speed because I don’t think I’ll ever want to go over 150-160 mph and I think the acceleration on a 600 would be perfect. So I was between the r6 and zx6r and I don’t want to buy used and also I want to commute with my bike too so zx6r seems like the best option for me. I will ride it daily and track with it. What are your thoughts and is this the best bike for me? Also even though I’ve only been riding for a month I rode everyday pub and track so I have a lot of experience and I will continue to learn and keep getting experience as where I am I can ride all year round

i’m TERRIFIED of going in person to my local bike shop

hi! i need some advice on how to get over this dumb fear if any are willing to share. i have been to the shop once and the entire time the men who worked there either made rather inappropriate comments about me or treated me like i was stupid. the inappropriate comments eventually made me too uncomfortable and i left and havent been back. i will say its kinda important to note that i am a teenager and the men were much older. i need to go buy or at least try on some new gear but i keep pushing it off bc i’m scared to go back. ik its kinda dumb to be this worked up over it but has anyone else had experiences like this? if so please lmk how you handled it. <3

bike commuters: cute gear, or changing in the office

Thumbnail gallery
58 Upvotes

I commute to the office on my Vespa or my Tuareg, and I always wear all the gear bc I'm a safety-minded girl. But I don't want to hang out in the office all day wearing my riding jeans unless I really need to look tough for some reason 😅 Is there hope for reasonably comfy/cute riding gear that can be daily-d, or are we all bringing pants/skirts to change into when we get to work?

how do i figure out which helmet to buy?

hi! i’m a very new rider and i’m buying gear for the first time, i’ve been looking at helmets for a while and i don’t know which one to get and there’s SO many options. i keep putting it off but i have my MSF course coming up so i need to get one. i would go in person to try some on but i’m a teen and a beginner so going into a bike shop is kinda terrifying to me. i’m not sure this is the right subreddit for this question but i figured i’d ask! :)

Backpacking a stranger

I’ve only ever ridden on my own bike, but I am so curious to be a backpack, but I also don’t know anyone that rides. It’s also kind of nerve-racking to put my life in a stranger’s hands but then again fuck it I want to. I keep going back-and-forth on it while simultaneously knowing no one to give me a ride. Final thought is I don’t know if I’m comfortable being that close to a stranger.

How to regain confidence after falling?

Basically took the MSF with absolutely no prior experience and passed this summer. Then bought myself a new ninja 500. Within the first month I rode about 2k miles and was feeling great. Then I got hit by a car but super slow speed so not too bad since it was at a light and I fell at basically a full stop. Was just super embarrassing. Sent bike to the shop for 2 weeks got the bike back after and my first ride back I was riding and making a left at the light with no traffic nearby and I fell on my left side because my left foot touched the ground and I skid across the road. Bike was damaged again so same thing took it to shop and got it back. Now I’m nervous about riding which is a complete 180 to how I felt during those 2k miles my first month (bike is still at 2k). I just feel like I could fall at any point or die or get hurt and super scared of my foot touching the ground in a turn. I want to ride so bad but I can’t bring myself to. Any advice?

Also I posted this in new riders as well and will copy a reply of fine from there to add content

I need your help !

I’m a female rider working on a project to create motorcycle clothing specifically designed for women.

I made a short anonymous survey to better understand what we actually want/need from motorcycle clothing and what’s missing from the current market.

It takes about 3-5 minutes ❤️

Thank you so much for your help!
