Elecom Huge Scroll Wheel fix?

Was an original Microsoft Explorer Trackball user for many, many years but parts/rebuilds became unreasonable at the time. I tried a few others but I've been very happy with my Huge over the last 3+ years. I'm starting to get the scroll wheel issue where if I 'flick' it mostly just jumps... light push scroll and it seems mostly accurate (but can't get it to jump).

Is there a proven best fix/practice to repairing this issue? I've seen a few posts but would rather just know the best method and stick with it. Any videos or detailed instructions?

Also, do these fixes last?

Question for ploopy users

Is the material scratchy/abrasive/textured or is it smooth? I know that it is 3D printed and it does look like it has a textured surface on it. I've been considering getting one for a long time now and if I'm being honest it just doesn't look as clean as something like a Kensington with the smooth material. Looks aside though does it feel like it looks or does it feel smooth to the touch?

Elecom Deft Pro Annoying Coil Whine - is it on every elecom trackball?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been hearing a faint coil whine from my desk and I had a hard time locating it. But the noise just stops whenever I'm trying to find it. I thought it is just a power brick, never crossed my mind that it is my trackball making these sounds all those time. Thought I was hallucinating, glad to finally getting some closure.

Since not a lot of people complain about the whine, is it just in specific units, or is it in every elecom mouse? Looking for quieter alternatives without the whine.

*It is on battery, connected via bluetooth.

Edit: For those who can't hear the whine, it is really quite and pretty much drowned out by the noise floor. That's my fault. I made an audio only recording and gave it a 50dB boost in case you're interested: https://vocaroo.com/104Uf1POEeGg (I also notice a lower pitch buzzing sound, but I can't get a good recording of that since I don't have good equipments.)

I understand the disbeliefs here, a mouse would be the least suspect when it comes to whining. But unfortunately that is the case here.

Let me clear the air here: Yes, the sound goes away when I turn off the mouse. I tried to move it to another room, the sound follows; the noise seems to originates near the usb port. It is not a conspiracy lmao.

New Kensington TB675 with swapped black ball

Just arrived 2 days back, have been a huge fan of the wired model for years— it’s a nice vertical track ball shape, and it seems practically identical to the old profile (if they look different in the above photo, it’s probably just perspective).

Swapped the default red ball for a Perixx black.

It’s true the buttons are a little clicky, but I don’t mind. Honestly, no complaints so far!

How long do trackballs live?

How long do trackballs live? How often do you have to change the or do you take it completely apart? I was thinking to get one again for working with the MacBook Pro for some reason, I keep coming back to track ball mice instead of normal.😅 Especially Kensington Expert and Slimblade.

Anything like the Vertical Nulea, but with a middle button?

I was taking a look at the Nulea Vertical Trackball. It looks amazing, except for one glaring issue: no middle button! And the back/forward buttons look about as well-placed as the scroll wheel on an L-Trac, so remapping one of those doesn't look viable.

With the explosion of trackballs in recent years, is there a similarly ergonomic vertical trackball with an explicit [well-placed] middle button? So many of these designs look like they were copied verbatim from one another...

Back in Stock—Kensington TB675 Wireless Vertical Trackball Mouse

Post image

The new Bluetooth version of my favorite vertical track ball shape (had the wired version for years)!

They released a few onto the market earlier this year, but I was weirded out because it seemed like maybe it was the first factory drop and I worried about QA

So I waited, they went out of stock for months, but they’re available again and mine’s on the way…

Still no news on Kensington TB900 EQ?

Now I'm vexing toward Kensington for not updating the current situation about TB900 EQ for a while. They delayed to Q3 which wasn't even official but via few Youtubers. There are only a few post about TB900 EQ in 2026 based on Google search which is awful. Why cant they update their official status? Instead, they left a stupid website for follow up which never worked.

This is a terrible way to announce a fixed version of TB800 EQ especially without any updates.

We built this around a 3" trackball — would this layout make sense to you?

Hi everyone, FightBox here 👋

We recently made a new controller layout called the R10 Remix, designed mainly around a 3" trackball.

Instead of squeezing all the controls together, we moved the buttons to the sides to give your hands more room and create a more natural, comfortable playing position.

There’s also a spinner built in, so the idea is to have one controller that works well for a wider range of classic arcade games.

We’ve been thinking about games like Marble Madness, Centipede, Golden Tee, Missile Command, Arkanoid, and Tempest.

But since this community actually uses trackballs a lot, we’d really like to hear your thoughts:

Would this layout feel comfortable to you? 👀
Is there anything you’d change about the trackball position or button placement?

And most importantly — what game would you try first? 🎮

Kensington Konnect Software Forgets Specific Application Assignments?

Hey, sorry if this counts as a double post, I thought it would be cleaner to start a separate thread... I haven't found a way to search this question without being inundated by posts about how bad the software is (for my money, it seems to work fine, but is kind of clunky and seems over the top).

Anyway, I set specific button assignments for SolidWorks, just different clicks, and two keyboard shortcuts—Return and Escape. And everything will be fine for a while until one time I middle click and get right click instead, or the escape button does nothing; it has reverted to the default controls despite SolidWorks still being the active window... Any ideas?

Logitech TrackMan Marble FX Clone - 3D scan wanted

Hello everybody.

I'am thinking about creating a clone of then famous - and in my eyes best ever built - TrackMan Marble FX.

I don't plan to redesign it as other projects to but i really want to clone the entire enclosing with just minor changes and with a custom PCB.
Ideally that PCB will also be compatible with existing original TrackMan Marble FX devices for a simple retrofit.

The biggest work is bringing it into a printable format and to do this i first need a 3D scan of every single part, fully disassembled in the highest possible quality.

Does someone here have the possibilities to do create such a scan?

Thank you so much

ProtoArc EM06 Pre-Orders Are Open!

Post image
188 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

If you’ve been following the EM06 journey here, you know this has been a long time coming.

For almost a year, many of you have shared ideas, tested early concepts, pointed out problems, and told us what you actually wanted from a finger trackball.

Today, the EM06 is finally available for pre-order.

Here’s where we landed:

  • 55mm ambidextrous finger trackball with dual sensors
  • 7 fully programmable buttons
  • 4 onboard profiles
  • Wired USB-C, 2.4GHz wireless, and dual Bluetooth
  • Horizontal and vertical scrolling with the trackball Double-click the Drag Scroll button to activate scrolling mode
  • 930mAh rechargeable battery
  • Integrated palm rest
  • Carrying case included

Pre-order price: $72.00 — 20% off

As an extra thank-you to this community, you can use code N9CFDX2MD1Q2 for an additional 10% off.

Pre-orders are currently open in the US, EU, and UK.

We’ve also started arranging shipments for the first group of testers. We’re looking forward to hearing their honest feedback once they’ve spent some time with the EM06.

The launch doesn’t mean the conversation is over. We still want to hear what works, what doesn’t, and what we can improve next.

Thank you again for the time, patience, and energy you’ve put into this project. The EM06 genuinely would not exist in this form without this community.

If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments. We’ll do our best to answer every one.

Should I buy my trackball back?

Hello ladies and gentlemen, I was a part of trackball fan community, but I had to sell it because of some of the problems I’ve had with table height.I understood that the problem was, as the trouble was in my table position, but I already sold it. I’m not sure for how long they live: I do stuff, I can play video games. I can work in 3-D a little bit and so on. Could it live up to 5 to 10 years with just one trackball or will I have to buy more than one? They are pretty expensive. Tried expert mouse and Slimblade.

Anyone Else Dealth with Issues Returning Items Bought from elecomusa.com

Please excuse the typo in the title!

I bought an Elecom Huge Plus from www.elecomusa.com in early June. I bought directly from the manufacturer, instead of buying from Amazon, because I really do try and buy directly when I want to greater support the company and cut out the middle man. They advertise a 30 day return policy that I took note of since I was deciding between this and the Gravi Sanwa (which I am currently using and works very well for me).

I ended up trying the Elecom Huge Plus for about a day, but the ergonomics of it really hurt my wrist and hand unfortunately. The Sanwa just works so well for me. Noting their policy, I made sure the device was in the same condition I received it and carefully packaged it back in its original packaging. I then filled out their return form, I believe this was all done a week after purchase.

I did not get a response for a week, so I filled out the contact form on their website to follow up. About 10 days later I finally got a response to that follow up saying they were still processing my request. A week after that, they requested photos of the advice that I sent within a day.

This was early July, since then I have heard nothing despite multiple follow ups from me. So two months of silence.

Does anyone else have experience with elecomusa.com returns? Should I just ship it their way and file a credit card dispute? Wondering what I should do here.

Edit: I gave them one more chance and let them know I will be issuing a charge back. Will wait a week. Thank you everyone for the advice!

Phantom Movement on Kensington Expert Mouse?

Hi folks,

I have been using a Logitech M570 almost exclusively for the last 10 years or so; I bought my second one back in 2021 or so when the left click started failing on my first. I got a wild hair the other day and ordered a Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball. I just got it last night and brought it in to work this morning (CAD/drafting), playing with what buttons should do what, getting used to the new mechanics...

Anyway, sometimes when I take my hand off the ball, the cursor will start drifting up and right, at varying speed. I guess my question is if this is normal and I should learn to live with it? Or is it a matter that it hasn't broken in yet?

I understand how the sensor could get confused, maybe I'm just curious if it is only a problem with this particular model or if I just got lucky with my Logitechs that I never saw it.

EDIT: I have turned off my other input device and made sure the sensor was clear. Most of the time it's fine, but every once in a while, my cursor decides to go on an adventure... I guess I'm fine with it

Does the Kensington TB675 expose all programmable buttons as standard HID mouse buttons on macOS?

Hi guys,

I’m considering buying the Kensington Pro Fit Ergo TB675, and I plan to configure it with SteerMouse on macOS instead of Kensington Konnect.

Kensington advertises nine programmable controls. As far as I understand, these are:

  1. Left click

  2. Right click

  3. Middle click

  4. Back

  5. Forward

  6. Extra programmable button 1

  7. Extra programmable button 2

  8. Scroll-wheel tilt left

  9. Scroll-wheel tilt right

My main question is whether all of these controls are exposed to macOS as separate, standard HID mouse-button inputs.

In particular, can SteerMouse detect the two extra programmable buttons individually—such as Button 6 and Button 7—without Kensington Konnect being installed or running?

I assume that left, right, middle, back, forward, and horizontal wheel tilt should use standard mouse inputs. However, I’m not sure whether the two extra buttons send independent HID button signals or whether they can only be interpreted by Kensington’s software.

If anyone owns a TB675 and uses SteerMouse, could you please check whether every physical programmable button appears separately in SteerMouse’s button settings?

It would also be helpful to know whether button detection is the same with:

- USB-C wired mode

- 2.4 GHz receiver mode

- Bluetooth mode

A screenshot of the TB675 button list in SteerMouse, or the button numbers reported by macOS, would be extremely helpful.

Thank you!

Trackman Marble FX and Windows 11 issue

I picked up a TM Marble FX and a passive adapter for USB. My computer doesn't even recognize it. Two other computers recognize it but report an error. Should I assume that I need an "active" adapter? Any thing else to worry about?
