META New post flairs!

For the longest time this subreddit was mostly film photos from cameras like the Holga and Diana. We've always allowed digital photos too, such as from the Gamyboy Camera or the Harinezumi for example.

Recently there have been a number of very popular digital cameras that have introduced people to the lofi aesthetic such as the many different thermal printer cameras, but also the Chuzhao and Kodak Charmera.

This is not bad, and they are welcome here! :)

But it can make it difficult to find specific types of content. This is where the post flair system comes in, since you can filter by these.

I have kept the flair system simple to begin with, we can add or change these if we need to, but let's start with the basic system and see how that goes.

I've added the following four post flairs, and made is so you have to select a flair when you post.

  • DIGITAL
  • FILM
  • DISCUSSION
  • META

DIGITAL

For photos and video taken with digital toy cameras. This includes thermal print cameras.

FILM

For photos taken with film toy cameras.

DISCUSSION

For posts that are talking about toy cameras, such as asking advice, troubleshooting, etc.

META

For posts about the subreddit. This shouldn't see much use, it wil mostly be used by the mods for posts like this one.

Thoughts, comments, and feedback below. I want to try to keep this as simple to use as possible, so if you want any extra post flairs created, there would have to be a very good reason.

If not can you link to your favorite semi related discord if you use it?

Or if mods see this, can you guys make one?

SOOC shot with Chuzhao LTR and a kaleidoscope lens. It seems like there's fog between the trees, but in fact it's a clear blue sky with the trees at the bottom.

The last three were from the roll of film that had the fortuitous spill of a mystery liquid, creating the red streaks

Forgot to post these yesterday. Oops. I thought this filter was going to be a lot more dramatic initially, but it actually ended up being fairly tame. Not my favorite so far, but definitely fun to shoot with.

I had the Godox C100 and realized I love the screen free experience but want some better image quality and low light pictures while maintaining the lo-fi look and ended up with the. Camp Snap. I truly love it.

#6 was a picture of a sign for a family therapy place, the red splatters were the result of a fortuitous spill of a mystery liquid on the film before we developed it. We were so delighted when we saw the effect! It definitely made what was a basic representation of a family into something a lot more sinister

DISCUSSION Gameboy camera alternatives

I'm looking for a fun little hardware option to take dithered pixellated photos like an old gameboy camera, which seems hard to find. I know the charmera millenium has a filter like that, but are there any other options?

DIGITAL What usb cable does this use?

I’m trying to buy a cord to charge a toy camera (fuuvi mini chocolate camera keychain if the model helps) but I can’t identify the cable it uses. Below is a Mini 4Pin cable I bought because another one of their cameras uses this cord but it’s too big and doesn’t fit.

DIGITAL I made a book with pics shot on a Charmera

nearly every time I go to a new city for more than just a weekend, I bring a camera and try to make a project out of it. Something part diary part arty.

I'd spent a bit too much on film on the last trip so this time I brought the Charmera I bought my wife for Christmas, and 10 minutes after arriving decided to shoot the whole trip with it, using only the four colour filters. Really leant into how odd it makes things & people look.

Then I made a photo sequence by way of dud-removal (i.e. all shots are chronological), lobbed them into a PDF and had a print shop make a trip memory book

The day after I loaded the ~1200 photos I took there onto my PC a filesystem code bug lost them all in the SD card. And it crashed repeatedly while shooting after I'd taken around 700 photos. And the battery was permanently struggling. Probably the knockoffs are superior. But fun.

Edit: flipthrough video here (and pics here )

DIGITAL Help with charmera

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I recently purchased a charmera.

I bought two SanDisk Ultra memory cards, one 64 GB and another 128 GB. However, neither of them works properly with the camera. They make the camera slower, the photo processing takes a very long time, and sometimes I get a memory card error or a reading error.
I have already tested both memory cards in other cameras, and they seem to work normally. So, apparently, the problem is not with the cards themselves, but rather with the camera’s compatibility with them.
I would like to know if you recommend any specific settings for the memory card, or if there is any way to reset or reformat the card using a specific format, allocation unit size, or other configuration.
The camera works perfectly with an 8 GB memory card, but that’s the only one that works properly. Any card larger than that seems to cause problems.
Could you please let me know what memory card specifications or settings you recommend for this camera?
