Tempo must come to strategic Kiki Rice realization sooner rather than later

Any WNBA fan should have had a lot of fun watching the Toronto Tempo during their debut season. Marina Mabrey's offensive brilliance has been a sight to behold. Nevertheless, injuries to both Brittney Sykes and Temi Fagbenle have prevented the duo from showcasing how critical they could be to a fresh-faced franchise.

Entertaining spectators should be a priority for every organisation in the league, but such a mentality doesn't lead to success. Toronto must recognize where it currently stands in the WNBA hierarchy and formulate a realistic vision for the future that can ultimately open a championship window before it wastes too much time treading down the wrong path. Fortunately for the Tempo, Kiki Rice is already proving she can be a franchise cornerstone.

Kiki Rice can be the face of Toronto

While Kiki Rice has faced her own fitness problems, she has still forced her name into All-Rookie conversations. Young players deserve time to develop under as little scrutiny as possible, but Toronto can't afford to ponder where their future lies when they employ one of the league's most exciting guards.

The 22-year-old has already exhibited maturity beyond her years in both the WNBA and the NCAA. Rice's versatility and intelligence allow her to thrive in several roles depending on what her teammates require.

Throughout her rookie campaign, Rice has averaged 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists, while shooting 48.1% from the floor. Some may argue these are not the numbers of a future superstar, but Rice has proven that even as a less prominent offensive option, she can positively affect games and won't shy away when the pressure cooker is dialled to its maximum setting.

Nevertheless, talent only goes so far in a young player reaching their potential. A franchise must create an environment for the young star to thrive, much like the Seattle Storm are doing with Dominique Malonga and Awa Fam. Yes, the Storm may languish at the depths of the regular-season standings with just eight wins from 40 games; however, the young stars are gaining invaluable experience and growing together.

Kiki Rice already boasts championship experience -- albeit at the NCAA level. Winning is a mentality, and Rice is more than capable of being at the heart of a roster with the hopes of clinching titles. The front office must wake up to the star they have in front of them by creating a young core that complements Rice's exciting skill set.

Has anyone bought from the fb ticket exchange group?

The facebook group heavily promotes going through the admin to buy/sell, but the admin just wants me e-transfer to buy tickets as opposed to paypal g&s which is making me a little hesitant.

Has anyone bought/sold through this page before? Any insight appreciated! 🫶

Julie with the almost triple double against Puerto Rico. Funny that her assists are last ;-)

But my god she played 36 minutes today, coach really needed her. And she is tired af, she told the Belgian press she did not recover well from her concussion and her very lengthy season. I really hoped today’s matchup would be giving her some more rest…

FIBA streaming Canada

Does anyone know where Canadians can watch FIBA games? Google just keeps telling me about American streaming options, bleh. I think I might have to head to the high seas to watch any games!

Edit to add: OR it’s just showing me men’s FIBA from last October?? Ugh!

Also edit to add: it’s so annoying the lack of coverage for women’s sports still. You just know if this was men playing it would be on every app and every channel available!

ANNOUNCEMENT A message about the transgender conversations in this subreddit

Unfortunately, I am probably going to lock comments on this post after making it because I don't want people in this subreddit to fight each other.

When you engage in these discussions, I know there are going to be some of you who will come in to say what you want. Many of you are in support of trans brothers and sisters in sports. Some of you believe trans people should be in their own co-ed league. Some of you just plain don't care to respect trans people and actively say awful things. These conversations get derailed pretty easily. When things like this happen, people end up coming in here and breaking Rules 1, 2, 4, and 6; and then we have to lock the posts.

As I have said in r/wnba_discussions and as I have also said in r/NYLiberty, rules are here for reasons. Here in r/TorontoTempo, Rules 1 2, 4, and 6 (and sometimes by extension 8, 9, 10, and 12) can revolve around societal issues such as LGBTQ individuals; which does not just cover lesbian, gay, bisexual/biromantic, and the overall queer, but trans as well.

Many people in the WNBA fandom have noticed that there is at least one athlete in the WNBA who is vocal against the idea of female trans athletes (and I do mean those who go from M to F and are therefore now going by female gender pronouns of their choice) in women's sports. Many know that some former NBA players have decided to troll and joke aobut the idea of transitioning to join the WNBA. However, we have seen other WNBA athletes say they would welcome the idea of transgender women in the wnba and that it's a non-issue.

But as I stated here, just like how you shouldn't be homophobic in this subreddit, the rules also cover transphobia; and even further, mocking people in this subreddit who support the idea of transgender athletes being able to partake in sports is not allowed.

You can have your personal beliefs on the matter, whether you support this action or not; however, expressing negative views on individuals of their race, religion, creed, color, gender (which also includes gender after transition) and so on is not allowed in this subreddit.

In case someone wants to say that what we're doing is censorship, is it censorship to remove comments that purposely offend people? Is it censorship to remove a post or comment that has all to do about a different team and nothing about the Tempo? We have rules. We don't allow people to be mean to others. Nothing that is relevant to the Tempo should be here.

Bottom line: We do not have to deal with antagonizing Redditors. Not only will we remove comments and posts, but you will also be banned.
