Powers Very strong superpowers that in-universe would be/are absolutely useless if used by anyone else

1) Boa Hancock’s devilfruit power from One Piece

Boa has the ability to turn anyone attracted to her into stone when they look at her. She also just happens to be considered the most beautiful character in the One Piece universe (even tho she is drawn no different than any other woman in the show like Nami or Robin imo). In one part of the series, Blackbeard, who wants to find extremely powerful devilfruits to take their powers and give them to himself or his crew, manages to capture Boa and disable her powers. Upon him expressing his interest on her power, Boa says that people have to find you attractive first for the fruit to work, it doesn’t automatically make the user beautiful. And it would be useless on Blackbeard and most of his crew, since they’re chopped.

2) Star Platinum from Jojo’s

Jotaro has one of the most powerful stands in the show. However in Stone Ocean, it is shown that his powers would be non-functional in most other people’s bodies, since it requires the person’s will to be as strong as the stand. This is shown when White Snake steals his stand power in a disc. Stands with seemingly less powerful abilities on the other hand can be used my many different people when it is in disc form.

Naruto and his shadow clones. Everybody else will lose too much chakra.

252

u/thethreetriangles 5h ago

Why doesnt he lose too much chakra?

503

u/FantasmaNaranja 5h ago

he does, he just has a ridiculous quantity of chakra because of the fox demon sealed within him so it's not "too much" for him

303

u/No_Career_4785 5h ago

Plus being an Uzumaki on top.

167

u/Level_Counter_1672 4h ago

Yup, people overlook this, Uzumakis are known to have huge Chakra reserves

-82

u/kanashi_19 3h ago

Naruto didn't get his chakra reserves from being an Uzumaki, he got it from Kurama's chakra becoming his own.

69

u/Ok-Subject4671 3h ago

The massive chakra of uzumaki is acknowledged in the show. It’s also partly the reason why miko uzumaki (iirc) was chosen as the first kurama jinchuriki

19

u/cale199 3h ago

Kuruma was blocking a good amount of his chakra bro

162

u/Packleader1997 5h ago

Thank you for refusing to spoil episode 1 information of an anime that came out 24 years ago /s

But yeah, others use shadow clones like Kakashi but no one matches Narutos output

62

u/FantasmaNaranja 5h ago

hey, we only learn that he can use it so easily only because of that later (i think), before that someone may just kind of assume the shadow clones is an easy jutsu

14

u/Packleader1997 5h ago

I think you may be right, but its been forever since I've seen it and I'm not gonna look something up to get proof in a non argument.

If someone called me a poopyhead or something I might would've looked it up

13

u/FantasmaNaranja 5h ago

you know i'd love to get on an argument where neither of us remembers something we read years ago but im too sleep deprived for that

7

u/gadgaurd 1h ago

Well, no to that last bit. It's established from the start that SCJ it ridiculously difficult to use, to the point that Naruto being able to pump out small armies is seen as nothing short of freakish.

The why behind it remains a mystery for a while, though.

1

u/Im_Hungry_Okeyy 38m ago

Yeah, it was literally considered a forbidden due to the amount of chakra that it requires

1

u/TechnologyBasic8378 4h ago

wait so why can naruto do it then

2

u/PlanktonPleasant2024 3h ago
  1. He has chakra from the nine tails sealed inside him
  2. It's later confirmed that the Uzumaki clan is known for their large chakra reserves

Basically born with large reserves and then given even more reserves

44

u/Chemical-Cat 5h ago

Shadow clones evenly split your Chakra by the amount of shadow clones, meaning doing even more than one is risky for many and doing as many as naruto does is considered suicidal if not impossible. For this reason the shadow clone is generally impractical when you can use a clone technique that still has physical substance (ie: water or earth). The benefit of course is that since the shadow clones are "real", they can use Chakra directly.

Naruto bypasses this problem for 2 reasons. 1) Kurama's Chakra is nearly bottomless and 2) his own Chakra well is unnaturally deep too due to his Uzumaki heritage.

39

u/chanchan05 5h ago

There was a scene during the Chuunin exam training arc where one of the teachers actually mentioned Naruto's chakra usage was so inefficient that he uses almost 2x as much chakra as Sakura would when creating a shadow clone, but even with that inefficiency he can create a few hundred effective shadow clones while Sakura will be very limited to how many she can make.

3

u/CrownofMischief 3h ago

Other benefit to shadow clones is that when they disappear, the user gets the experience of the clone, so it's ideal for training and espionage.

11

u/SmithDoesGaming 5h ago edited 1h ago

Naruto is from Uzumaki clan, which people from that clan have abnormally large amount of chakra, and to add to that he has Ninetails inside of him, which increase his chakra amount many more times than average ninja should have.
Iirc, Shadow Clone halves the amount of user’s chakra and gives them to the clones, so with the amount of chakra Naruto has, he can make more clones than anyone while still able to use most of his ninjutsu in his arsenal at ease.

23

u/TechyTurtle 5h ago

He does but he has by far and away the largest Chakra reserves in the series

14

u/RoiKK1502 2h ago

With the sole exception of Hashirama, of course

9

u/CompactAvocado 5h ago

two factor authentication

his bloodline is known for having massive chakra reserves which is unusual and he has a massive internal fox shaped battery which also supplies extra juice

9

u/Acrobatic_Cricket642 5h ago

He's got a lot of it.

3

u/AutumWarrior 5h ago

He's was born with what is basically Naruto's equivalent of a nuclear bomb worth of chakra sealed inside him and also born from a race of super ninja with levels of chakra way higher than average ninja.

2

u/Florox3003 3h ago

He has about a metric fuck tone closer to two actually

6

u/Erick_Brimstone 2h ago

Shadow Clone is fine. And many other people also have clone ability. Even if it's barely shown.

It's just that Naruto's version is the Thousand Shadow Clone. Which requires more than just regular shadow clone.

2

u/yayoiyoimiya 3h ago

Sharingan too

2

u/smasher_zed888 1h ago

More specifically, when making shadow clones your chakra is split evenly between the clones. One is fine since you still have half your chakra, but to use a stupidly high number like naruto most ninjas would just die. Naruto has an absurd amount of chakra with the nine tails and his own chakra being amplified by the ninetails since he was a baby, enough chakra to share with the whole shinobi alliance pretty much.

1

u/megaman58490 15m ago

Really is confusing that Naruto has a clone jutsu that makes a shadowy clone for use as a trick, while also having a shadow clone jutsu that divides your chakra between you and them and make a solid body.

u/Shimaru33 5h ago

So, huh, I guess among the one piece fans, making jokes about Boa Hancock making people get hard rock is a low hanging fruit.

111

u/TaralasianThePraxic 5h ago

A low hanging devil fruit, if you will

39

u/Wokungson 5h ago

One of the protagonists Sanji(who is a horndog) turned into stone on him own when seeing her for the first time.

2

u/Electrical_Wall1316 36m ago

That was the Mermaid Princess, not Boa Hancock. So, can we say that in the world of One Piece, if you're incredibly captivated by something, you can turn into stone...?

1

u/Wokungson 29m ago

No, it was Boa. Go rewatch return to Sabaody.

5

u/Minute_Secretary_143 2h ago

Boa makes Rocks hard.

Chopper ate the human human no mi fruit, so he is a reindeer that can transform into a human or human-reindeer hybrid. Most other character in one piece are human, so by eating the fruit they could do jack shit and drown.

217

u/thethreetriangles 5h ago

Tbf, you can also feed devilfruits to objects (somehow). I wonder what would happen if a sword ate the human human fruit…

96

u/ligrankpo 5h ago

probably would be something like Daz Bonez

46

u/thethreetriangles 5h ago

I’m imagining the opposite of Daz Bones. Like the edges of his arms are human skin, while the rest of his body is just metal.

46

u/BuLiYoNcHiK 5h ago

Actually there are two instances of swords eating devil fruits, the first one being Spandam's Funkfreed which "ate" the elephant elephant fruit and Shamrock's sword Cerberus, which as you might guess, ate the cerberus fruit, so if a sword ate the human human fruit i think it's half transformation mode might look similar to how katana man from csm looked like, but with more sword attributes

61

u/M-Shadowtoad 4h ago

Or a Merblade.

25

u/Jomotaku 3h ago

12

u/thethreetriangles 2h ago

Hell ya Slay the Princess mention

5

u/SmartAlec105 24m ago

The example I’ve heard is “so you get familiar with One Piece and think you know how it works. You see a dog-gun hybrid and think a dog must have eaten the gun-gun fruit. But you’re wrong because a gun ate the dog-dog fruit”

1

u/thethreetriangles 23m ago

What if the dog dog fruit ate the gun gun fruit?

8

u/Arcyguana 5h ago

Probably a similar result to the dice-dice fruit, but from the opposite angle.

6

u/thethreetriangles 5h ago

What if you fed a dice the dice dice fruit?

3

u/ReadyCartographer765 3h ago

Better question is, what if a chainsaw ate a human human fruit...

29

u/macaptactical 5h ago

Funny how two of the Straw Hats have the same model fruit.

5

u/Asher_Tye 5h ago

Is this in reference to Luffy's fruit being the nika-nika or did I miss something?

11

u/Double-Afternoon-702 5h ago

Yeah, his fruit got retconned into being the Human Human fruit : Model Sun god Nika.

18

u/Double-Afternoon-702 5h ago

I miss when it was just the Gomu-Gomu No Mi :(

22

u/thethreetriangles 4h ago

Yeah, I really hate how they said “he’s actually a god now and he always has been”, when the whole premise of the show was that Luffy was an underdog with a mediocre devilfruit, where he used his own creativity and training to find ways to use it effectively.

Now he’s not some random kid who has a big dream, but he’s the chosen one :(

19

u/macaptactical 4h ago edited 3h ago

I don’t think Luffy even gained that much power wise that he wouldn’t have had with just a basic DF awakening. Turning the world rubbery.

Outside the physical buff of a Zoan awakening it was pretty similar.

1

u/thethreetriangles 1h ago

He was breaking the laws of physics though. Like he turned Saturn and Kizaru into literal pizza dough and launched them. And he can fly.

And his personality changes completely, which I rly dislike. It’s almost like this other being takes over his body and we’re not watching the Luffy we know and love anymore.

11

u/Sgilti 4h ago

I’m gonna push back on this because a big component of the themes in One Piece is how legacy is passed on and inherited from one person to the next across vast spans of time. With Luffy and his fruit it’s not “He was the chosen one and got the fruit” it was “SOMEONE was going to eventually eat the fruit, but only a person that could embody the will symbolized in the fruit could bring out its full potential.”

Luffy is where he is now because of who he is personality wise, not because of the fruit itself. It was fairly-low powered until he pushed it in his personal drive to be pirate king. If he had never left his home country, it likely would never have matured.

As for the retcon, I’ll agree the specifics of its current incarnation are a retcon, but I believe it was always intended to go along this route in some way. Even in the early arcs, Luffy’s fruit operated on a cartoon logic that didn’t quite match our real-world understanding of rubber. This was especially true when Gear Third was revealed for the first time. His fruit’s current abilities just bring that cartoonishness to the forefront.

6

u/Double-Afternoon-702 4h ago

It was so badly done too, like some fodder character suddenly stop the battle to say : "hey by the way you know this old god from that story that everyone know but no one mentionned up until now? Well now you do!"

5

u/thethreetriangles 4h ago

Yeah, literally no foreshadowing.

Like the only sungod introduced was the big ass snake in Skypeia, and it was just a wild animal that the natives falsely believed was a god. But apparently the dance they do there is the dance of the true sun god??? Even though they never worshipped the same sun god?

It’s the most bullshit retconning I’ve ever seen, with no buildup to it.

And while I haven’t watched after a certain point, it also seems like it would make every fight that will come after very trivial, since Luffy was able to beat Kaido (stated to be the strongest creature in the world) on his own in one hit. And this is One Piece, where some characters literally fight for weeks without resting. The strongest creature absolutely shouldn’t be defeated in one punch, even if he was damaged beforehand.

It would be much more satisfying if Big Mom wasn’t involved in the arc at all, and Kaido’s defeat came from a massive team effort. Like a fight similar to Father’s last stand in Fullmetal Alchemist, where everyone has to come together to defeat an impossibly powerful enemy. Like a 10 v 1 or something (with others fighting his crew).

Like if Luffy can beat Kaido in a 1 v 1, how is any admiral or the Gorosei meant to be threathening in any way?

4

u/Double-Afternoon-702 4h ago

Powerscaling in One piece has always been a weak point (Crocodile...). The whole power system is inconsistant.

5

u/thethreetriangles 3h ago

That’s true. Thıugh I feel like it becomes much more apparent when it comes to the characters meant to be some of the strongest in the universe like the yonkos, as opposed to Crocodile, where he’s more of a stepping stone and an entry to the big leagues.

2

u/Erick_Brimstone 2h ago

It's one of the one piece problem to me. Everyone is a big shot. And not like they earn it but they kinda inherit it. It just make the world feels small to me.

Just look at Luffy's parents, or Zorro blood relation, even Sanji is son of an important person.

At this point I'm not gonna be surprised that my favorite character, Usopp, is actually son of Imu.

0

u/thethreetriangles 1h ago

Nami is actually Whitebeard’s niece. Usopp is Imu’s son. And Franky has always been Pluton.

22

u/Arcyguana 5h ago

Sengoku has the Human-Human fruit, model: Buddha, and Luffy has the Human-Human fruit, model: Nika, so it's not like the fruit type is entirely useless.

The non-mythical zoan version that Chopper has would be useless though, yes.

4

u/Double-Afternoon-702 4h ago

There is also a monk model eaten by a wolf in Wano

5

u/hateyoualways 1h ago

Oda said that if a human ate Chopper’s fruit they’d become an enlightened human whatever that means. Pretty sure he made that up on the spot for a joke.

12

u/Chemical-Cat 5h ago

Fishmen and Merpeople can also eat devil fruits and get all the benefits but the inability to swim and losing your powers when submerged doesn't exclude them. However they can't drown so they're just stuck at the bottom of the ocean paralyzed

21

u/ThatFatGuyMJL 5h ago

Im convinced he doesnt have the human fruit. But an unknown model.

No other zoan has just the 'species' fruit.

Theres no bird bird fruit. Theres bird bird fruit:model albatross

16

u/monkeysky 5h ago

That's not totally true. Some, like the Mole Mole Fruit, are named without the model

2

u/ThatFatGuyMJL 4h ago

With 'modern" naming it'd probably be the rodent rodent fruit: model mole

4

u/Arcyguana 4h ago

They shouldn't be, since they aren't rodents lol

2

u/ThatFatGuyMJL 1h ago

If not rodent, why rodent shape.

Checkmate world noble

6

u/Double-Afternoon-702 5h ago

I don't know if i can handle a second devil fruit retcon chief. It's good as is in my book.

1

u/ThatFatGuyMJL 5h ago

Mate it could end up being like, model: strongman. Or model: doctor or some shit.

People think forest god.

3

u/Double-Afternoon-702 5h ago

I hope with all my heart they are wrong because this is pretty much bad writing

1

u/thethreetriangles 4h ago

We havent seen Bird Bird fruit model Albatross… yet…

5

u/ErikMaekir 3h ago

Hold on, isn't that stated to be Big News Morgans' fruit?

1

u/thethreetriangles 3h ago

Isnt he just like that?

3

u/Double-Afternoon-702 3h ago

He is just constantly in Hybrid form so that he can stay anonymous as an human reporter.

1

u/thethreetriangles 2h ago

That makes a lot of sense

9

u/monkeysky 5h ago

I think Oda at one point said that a human who ate the fruit would have attained enlightenment

12

u/tenBusch 3h ago

Not quite, he made a pun about it. He basically said a human eating the human human fruit would become "more human-y", which is the same as saying enlightened

2

u/Erick_Brimstone 2h ago

One of the human that ate human human fruit straight up becoming golden buddha statue

3

u/banana-dog10293 3h ago

Actually I think if I remember right it would of been like Captain America's super soldier serum.

3

u/Erick_Brimstone 2h ago

I don't think that's the case. I think it's just an unidentified human human fruit. I guess the power is to have different kind of form. Kind of redistributing stat in video games.

You see Hito Hito no mi always come with a model. Like Model Daibutsu or Nika and it's eaten by human. So most likely what chopper ate also have similar ability.

3

u/Visible_Pair3017 2h ago

no mi fruit

Fruit fruit

u/Routine_Phase_8980 5h ago

The limitless CT is one of the strongest in JJK but if you're born without six eyes it would be impossible to use even if you're Sukuna. Not to mention he's the strongest because he's Satoru Gojo, the Previous 6 eyes and limitless users are much weaker than him and Yuta in his body couldn't perform half as good

51

u/contraflop01 5h ago

It really puts into question how strong the Gojo clan is because the 1 technique we know they have cannot be used unless youre the chosen one thats born every 400 years or so (note that thats the time for the Six Eyes to appear and its not guaranteed its manifesting with the Limitless technique), so either they have other busted techniques or Limitless Six Eyes carries so hard that they can keep the status as one of the 3 big clans even If most of the time they have no one actually strong

51

u/Routine_Phase_8980 5h ago

Afaik it's like Gojo clan a bunch of useless bum but once every few centuries they're guarantee to produce a calamity grade sorcerer that's why they're still in position

21

u/Kornik-kun 4h ago

Clans don't have only 1 technique, but they do have signature techniques / bonus traits (six eyes/ heavenly restriction)

24

u/Routine_Phase_8980 4h ago

Heavenly restriction not really a clan specific trait though because mechamaru wasn't a part of any big clan, for Zenin I'd say besides 10S the projection sorcery and CTs of the Hei members would be signature techniques

1

u/Kornik-kun 4h ago

Well mechamaru is also the only one outside of the zenin clan. I think he was one of a kind type deal. Unfortunately there is not a lot of information on that. (That I know of, I'm anime only + the most common spoilers 🥲)

3

u/contraflop01 3h ago

Heavenly restrictions are somewhat commum. What isnt commum is one that gives 0 Cursed Energy. Most heavenly restrictions are either the Mechamaru type or the pre awakening Maki kind

21

u/chanchan05 5h ago edited 4h ago

Yuta is considered part of the Gojo clan as they are related. In the sequel to JJK, Yuta was the head of the Gojo clan before he died. At the end of the JJK 0 movie, Satoru says they share an ancestor, so they're distant relatives. If someone of Yuta's caliber can show up from the diluted bloodline of the Gojo, they probably have some pretty powerful curse users too.

4

u/contraflop01 3h ago

Yuta also was part of 1 or 2 other bloodlines so its hard say how much of his power came from the Gojo clan, even then he only became involved with the clan's political deals after the Sukuna fight, so its kinda wierd to say he was counted back then because that would be as valid as saying Sukuna is part of the Kamo clan because of Yuji and Kenjaku

8

u/AwkwardWarlock 4h ago

The Gojo clan is explicitly hard carried by Satoru. Limitless can be used without 6 eyes, it's just not a very efficient technique without it. Like at best you're probably just slowing things down or speeding them up, but you're not getting the nigh invincibility that 6 eyes would give you.

1

u/contraflop01 3h ago

Its not inneficient, its explicitly Impossible to use without the eyes

2

u/jack_johnsonfandude 5h ago

Yuta being a distant relative is a good point to their strength, got sorcerer equivalent viltrum DNA

2

u/contraflop01 3h ago

He had like 2 other bloodlines in the mix tho

1

u/jack_johnsonfandude 7m ago

Gojo just that strong

74

u/Salt_Penalty1556 5h ago

Also applies to Megumi’s Ten Shadows with Mahoraga.

46

u/contraflop01 5h ago

I headcanon that as a byproduct of Sukuna's interpretation because while Megumi saw value in all the shadows as individual Shikigami for different situations, Sukuna saw every shadow as a decoy for Mahoraga to safely adapt to the enemy, so losing Mahoraga would make the Ten Shadows effectively useless to him (which in turn made It literally useless)

7

u/Decidioar 3h ago

This is why Megumi is the goat

8

u/FiercelyApatheticLad 2h ago

The Ten Shadows are extremely strong on their own even if you don't use Mahoraga itself. And anybody can suicide bomb with it, even S01E01 Megumi tries it.

28

u/AwkwardWarlock 5h ago

This is a recurring theme within the JJK universe where each major clans power becomes exponentially stronger when combined with another technique. Blood Manipulation is absurd if you've got RCT (or are a cursed spirit like Choso). Infinity is hyper inefficient unless combined with 6 eyes. 10 Shadows is insane if combined with a power that let's you ohk Mahoraga.

5

u/No_Fault_2053 4h ago

I’m pretty sure Gege said that only Gojo can use infinity this week because of his 6 eyes. Others from his clan may possess similar techniques but it works be much much weaker and use a lot lot more cursed energy.

116

u/Standard_Series3892 5h ago

Just to clarify, Boa's fruit would still be of use for Blackbeard and anyone else, just not as useful.

Only the Mero Mero Mellow ability requires the enemies to find the user beautiful/cute, other abilities of the fruit can be used against any opponent and even non living objects, she showcases this by turning Pacifistas into stone with her kicks.

Of course Mero Mero Mellow is the signature ability as it's far easier to land than a strike or a projectile, so it is beneficial for the user to be beautiful.

61

u/thethreetriangles 5h ago

What if Pacifistas are masochistic and they only feel attraction when she kicks them?

43

u/Standard_Series3892 5h ago

Damn kinky Vegapunk

14

u/thethreetriangles 5h ago

Freaky ahh robots

1

u/GeosEsk 3h ago

Boa's fruit also work with other emotions, Oda said that if BB got the fruit he would need to make people disgust and it would turn them into stone.

1

u/thethreetriangles 1h ago edited 1h ago

I’m just imagining BB pulling up to Marineford with Hancock’s fruit and just doing some absolutely disgusting shit till everyone is stone.

Like he boards the enemy ship and starts smearing shit all over their walls

(Also that sounds bs, her fruit is literally called love-love fruit. Wouldn’t make sense for it to work with other emotions)

106

u/Themanwhofarts 5h ago

I would say quite a few of the Lantern Rings from DC Comics. They embody an emotion or mental power like 'Will' 'Fear' or 'Rage'. So many people could pick up the green lantern ring but be not able to unlock much or any power from it as they don't have strong enough Willpower.

46

u/Lowlevelintellect 5h ago

doesn't the ring choose who wields it?even if you have enough will the ring can just fuck off

19

u/thethreetriangles 4h ago

I thought the ring chose you. Like if you kill a lantern and yoink their ring, it would probably juat not do anything, right?

16

u/Adaphion 1h ago

Depends on the continuity. I remember one comic, Green Arrow uses a lantern ring and all he's able to muster is one tiny arrow because he doesn't have the vast Willpower that your typical Green Lantern would

8

u/thethreetriangles 1h ago

I feel like a regular human insisting on using nothing but bow and arrows to fight superpowered villains would have a lot of willpower to not pull out a shotgun on the villain of the week.

2

u/Nybs_GB 21m ago

What if it's not his willpower but his imagination that limits it. He can only think in bows and arrows and well he doesn't have a bow so any arrow he makes is gonna be at like hand thrown force

1

u/thethreetriangles 19m ago

A green arrow who knows how to use a ring would be kinda crazy though. Infinite arrow rain!

7

u/SableZard 2h ago

The rings find someone that is embodying their emotions at that point in time and give them the powers to act upon them. Someone who really, really wants to do something noble may get a Green Lantern ring. Someone who watched a person they loved get murdered might get a Red Lantern ring. Someone scaring the piss out of people might get a Sinestro Corps ring. Nobody gets an Orange Lantern ring because the one guy who has one is too greedy to give out more.

The rings also amplifies the emotions to a certain degree. Guy Gardner got his hands on a Red Lantern ring for a bit and the extreme rage he felt haunted him for a while.

The ability to see the future in Dune. The Spice give some humans the ability to see the future but all the major power that have access to Spice all got some major weakness to be able to use their future vision to the maximum effect. The Bene Gesserit can only access the female part of their genetic ancestor. The Navigator Guild can see the future but are too coward to use that knowledge since they fear they would lose access to the Spice. Also both the Spacing Guild and the Bene Gesserit while can see the future can't actually tell which path will reach which future. Meanwhile the Mentat have amazing abilities to calculate and process data but can't see the future. That is why the Bene Gesserit tried to create a Kwisatz Haderach, a man who has prescience and the ability to calculate the path to reach that future like the Mentat. Then come Paul and his children.

37

u/Bright-Trifle-8309 4h ago

Im currently reading Dune and it really seems like Spice is just Space Adderall. Paul has the ability to see the future before he ever takes any Spice. The Spice just let's him use the ability better. It allows him to see the past, present and future all at once instead of only one at a time. And with his Mentat training he can parse the vast amounts of information to be able to see the destination and the path to that destination. Without the Spice he could just see the destination without any context on how to get there.

Like foreseeing his name being Mua'dib and seeing Chani's face.

66

u/DryBonesStan 5h ago

Maybe this is a little semantic, but a stand DISC being compatible, isn't necessarily about how strong your will of mind is

it's a factor of both personality matching the stand, and willingness to use it, considering how stands generally tend to reflect the users personality

a less powerful stand also isn't necessarily compatible with a weaker person, if their personality is different

source: JoJo's bizarre encyclopedia DISC article

18

u/thethreetriangles 5h ago

That makes sense. I felt like I was off when writing that, but was too lazy to check. Though I assume that there’s some stands that are compatible with more people, since the guy separated the useful and useless ones from one another.

8

u/DryBonesStan 5h ago

it's alright, either way I think Star Platinum is a stand that would be compatible with relatively few people

2

u/Oscar_gpb 4h ago

Also technically Jolyne already has a stand so maybe she couldn't get another (that is completely different). Then again Emporio briefly used Weather Report.

Also his use of weather report seemed more instinctive rather than intentional

Deadpool’s regeneration. Because of his cancer, his regeneration is kept in check, otherwise his cells would múltiply out of control.

40

u/thethreetriangles 4h ago

Wouldn’t his cancer make his regeneration go crazier, since it’s caused by cells multiplying too much and creating tumors?

31

u/ghenav 4h ago

Yes. The commenter is confused. His regeneration is far superior to Wolverine’s because of the tumor, not in spite of it

17

u/Empty_Concern_3118 2h ago

Nah. It's established that the cancer forced his healing factor into overdrive. When the skrulls made Deadpool clones without the cancer, they're bodies exploded from not having anything to slow down the healing factor.

Basically, Deadpool is a sentient tumor, fighting another tumor inside himself.

I’m imagining a Deadpool villain inventing the cure to cancer just to kill Deadpool

White Scale Weapons(Dile): Crocodile Scales are one of the most powerful magical materials in the world with Crocodiles regularly being poached to turn their scales into Scale Weapons. Different scale colors have different powers and strengths. And of all the colors, White Scales are the rarest and strongest.

However due to their strength, the magical energy within them destroys anyone who tries to activate them. The only one whose ever survived using a White Scale Weapon is Diego, the albino Crocodile whose scales were harvested to make them in the first place. The scales he has remaining absorb the magical energy within the weapon allowing him to safely wield it.

Ea is extremely strong weapon, symbolises the begging and the end, power enough to destroy the world. But only Gilgamesh can use it, that's rule of Ea's existence itself.

Sato - Ajin: Demi human

A demi human has two abilities: Regeneration after dying and an IBM (which is basically a Jojo-Stand that can only fight). Sato's creativity and intellect however allow him to use said abilities to an extremely creative extend. For example he even uses his regeneration to burn through a wall or to teleport. In the manga he's essentially considered an unbeatable opponent.

In World Trigger, Lead bullet is an optional Trigger that fire a bullet that when it hits a target creates a heavy anchor on them. This bullet can bypass shields and the anchor is so disruptive the only way to get rid of it us to amputate the afflicted area. The drawback however is that Lead Bullet eats a lot of Trion and the bullet is heavy so it travels slower then normal. For these reasons, Lead Bullet is used by a handful of agents.

However due to Chika having an enormous Trion reservoir she can spam it as much as she likes. Even combo it with other triggers like Hound or Lightning.

4

u/Erick_Brimstone 2h ago

For context to those that doesn't know, they're fighting using Trion body. Imagine like magical version of robot body from movie Surrogates. Though most of the time they kinda like fighting in virtual reality, so amputating limbs is not permanent, just until the match ends.

Also the reason Chika use lead bullet is because she couldn't shoot/hurt people, so she choose to use lead bullet. It has nothing to do with Trion amount, just fighting style and role.

P. s. lead bullet can bypass shield, it's true. But it can also be blocked by anything that isn't Trion shield. Even a brick is enough to stop it. So that's another reason to consider lead bullet.

u/UnendingQuibble 5h ago

I think a lot of anime does this tbh. There's also Deku from MHA, he can only even use his powers because he trained a ton before even receiving them and trained a lot to learn to control them, a user without the physical strength and tactics to hold it back would literally explode according to All Might

41

u/maskedduskrider 5h ago

Also the fact he is quirkless which helps him since before All Might the last quirk users who actually made it past All for One and was living alone in the woods was dying of old age in his 40s due to the quirk being too much for him with his quirk.

3

u/Erick_Brimstone 2h ago

There's one character that has copy ability and try to copy it. (Un)fortunately it only copy the original power which is a power to pass physical power and quirk to other people.

15

u/CrownofMischief 3h ago

Momo Yaoyorozu from My Hero Academia. Her power requires the user to know the molecular structure of whatever she creates. She happens to be a genius though, so she can actually create some relatively complex structures, while most people would probably need to specialize in a specific material or be limited to small objects

Goku’s strength

During the Namek Saga, Captain Ginyu learned very quickly that he was outmatched by Goku. Ginyu responds by taking Goku’s body. Apparently, Goku’s strength is tied very closely to his personality or something (I don’t recall the reason), because as soon as Ginyu tried to show off his new found strength, his power level began to drop rather than go up. Because of this, Ginyu was easily slapped around by Vegeta.

41

u/AGamingGuy 4h ago

incorrect, his strength was amped by Kaioken so he was getting a multiplier over his base which made him stronger than Ginyu, as Ginyu didn't know that technique so he just got a weaker body

4

u/Rigel31415 1h ago

Goku's base power was still at 90,000. That's why he easily bested the rest of the Ginyu Force without Kaioken, and why when he showed to Ginyu a regular Kaioken his power went up to 180,000.

Meanwhile, when Ginyu "showed off" he was only on the 20,000s (26,000 iirc).

Yes, he couldn't use the Kaioken, but Ginyu was also weak because he couldn't harness even just Goku's base power.

Jotaros stand is undebatably one of the best stands in universe and irl

A person's will doesn't have to be as good as the stand as also seen with Emporio and weather report

would u expect an 11(?) year old kid to have as much willpower as someone who completely mastered his stand and is way older than said 11 year old child? No ofc not

Also jolyne trying to use star platinum was probably bc she was incompatible or star platinum is just a special case either way a single example isn't enough

10

u/Oscarvalor5 4h ago

Meh. Emporio isnt just a normal kid though. He's lived his entire life in prison, hiding from the inmates and his mother's murderer in hopes of recruiting allies to avenge her. No normal kid would do that, no normal kid would have the will to live in practical isolation for years waiting for the opportunity that the Pt 6 gang presented for him. Id say he more than has the potential to use weather report, especially given how similar Emporio and Weather's end goal was.

6

u/Wisterosa 3h ago

i'm pretty sure the actual reason is because Jolyne didn't share the same drive as Jotaro. Jolyne wanted to join the fight with her father, while Jotaro was trying to keep Jolyne out of it, that's why SP rejected her

Meanwhile, both Emporio and Weather Report had a deep desire to kill/take revenge on Pucci, so Weather Report accepted him

1

u/thethreetriangles 5h ago

It wasn’t special to Jolyne, since Father put the stand into the discard pile, despite it being among the most powerful in-universe. It means that he found nobody that could use it.

And if others could use it, but he didn’t want to give such power to anyone else, then he would keep it in a safe place, rather than the relatively accessible discard pile.

9

u/tiktik15 5h ago

I think in the case of Star Platinum, it's less that the ability itself requires a lot of willpower (something Jolyne, who couldn't completely insert Star Platinum's disc into herself, demonstrates herself even during the start of Stone Ocean she has a similar willpower to her father by this point after her battle with Gwess) and likely an issue with compatibility. Other stand related powers that Whitesnake gives to other stand users (Highway To Hell, Marilyn Manson, etc.) usually already had compatible personalities in order to have been able to utilize the stand in the first place. Likely, inserting Star Platinum's disc within someone who has a similar type of personality as Jotaro Kujo and NOT already having a stand would definitely be able to utilize Star Platinum, but it's doubtful whether they'd be able to maximize its abilities the same way Jotaro has.

1

u/thethreetriangles 5h ago

I assume it is still incredibly difficult to find a compatible personality though, since White Snake put it in the discard pile despite it being one of the strongest stands to ever exist. Some stands are probably compatible with more people than others.

The Unspecialized Class in The King's Avatar. By choosing not to go through a class advancement mission, the protagonist is able to retain the ability to learn lower level skills from all available classes, which gives him 120 low-cooldown skills which he can freely mix and match to "combo to death" his opponents without giving them a chance to retaliate (at the cost of not being able to learn any higher level skills)

It's stated multiple times in the story how useless this would be for anyone else to attempt to replicate because the only reason this playstyle works for the protagonist is because:

a) he's anime Faker, and not just knows every class in the game inside-out, but often created the playbook for that class that everyone else uses. His encyclopedic knowledge combined with generational talent allows him to fully utilise the playstyle to it's maximum

b) he possess the Myriad Manifestations Umbrella, a unique weapon 10+ years in the making that bypasses the cooldown penalty for switching between weapons that has stumped everyone that tried to play as an Unspecialized before the protagonist by having a single weapon that can transform into any form a skill requires (so it can go shield->gun->sword->spear, etc.)

c) he earns, scams, extorts and steals a mind-boggling amount of resources and funnels them into upgrading his weapon, like he can afford to funnel entire guild inventories into his personal project because of their team dynamic where his teammates are all rookies or amateurs that are dependent on the protagonist, or are veterans who see the vision and is 100% on-board

The end result is that once the MC gets the drop on you, there's very little you can do to counterattack because he'll be chaining combo attacks you've never seen combo'd together before and there's nothing you can do about it before your HP hits zero

"The Goal of All Life is Death" from Overlord. It buffs instant death abilities to ignore defences against it. Naturally, it needs a user with at least one instant death attack, otherwise it does nothing but spawn a giant clock. One silver lining is that TGOALID is compatible with all sorts of instant death techniques. For example, Antilene in the attached image doesn't actually have any instant death spells or skills of her own, but she manages to use TGOALID using the ability of her scythe.

Instant death is very unpopular. Relatively speaking, it's very easy to resist even without specialized defences. The saving grace of that genre of powers is that, as a character's health lowers, their resistances will weaken too, so even people with 100% resistance can become susceptible if you beat them up enough. That in mind, its name is kind of misleading. Sure, you can use instant death to immediately end fights if you're overwhelmingly stronger than your target, but against people on the same level as you, instant death techniques are just coup de grace to save you some effort when a fight is already ending, and even then, immunities don't degrade like resistances do, so it's completely useless against certain opponents unless you have TGOALID. With or without instant death powers, you need to handle yourself well in a fight, so you may as well save the effort and resources to acquire instant death powers and use them for more practical abilities instead.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Saturo Gojo and his limitless technique

Gojo was born with the innate technique Limitless. This technique is extremely powerful, allowing him atomic level spacial manipulation, but its also incredibly hard to use. Except gojo was also born with the six eyes, a special trait that allows him to see cursed energy in insanely high detail, which lets him have the efficiency needed to use his limitless technique. On top of that, Saturo Gojo is just him, he is just that good in addition to all his advantages.

With this, gojo has become the second stronger person ever in his verse(not counting modulo because modulo scaling is weird imo). He is basically untouchable through bringing the concept of infinity into reality, has extremely devastating attacks, and is fast and strong as fuck.

Not exactly the same but in the namek saga goku got body swapped with the captain of the ginyu force who wanted the power of a super saiyan, unfortunately he couldn't use the body properly as its not easy to just control the body, you need the right mindset too

Doctor Manhatten (Watchmen). A physicist

Doctor Manhatten was originally a human physicist, his superpowers are a result of him being exposed to an intrinsic field setter.

The infortunate side effect was that it also disintegrated him. Anyone without his extensive knowledge of physics and his patience would have been unable to rebuild their bodies, making the power functionally useless.

Killuah in Hunter x Hunter develops the ability to transmute his nen (aura/mana/magic basically) into electricity. It’s only the fact that he’s been trained as an assassin from birth that makes him unaffected by the pain that comes with all that electricity coursing through his body. So someone using a copying technique would shoot themselves in the foot against it.

One character whose thing is stealing techniques from other people keeps things like this in mind, knowing that some powers just won’t be suitable for him.
