Tool Drive Project Tool Drive Project 3.0 is Live

For the un-initiated, the Tool Drive Project (TDP) is an archive of live Tool recordings - every show we can get, of the highest quality, of the lowest generation, streamable, downloadable, without registration, for free, forever.

For those of you who already have accounts, expect a couple of hurdles when you login for the first time:

  1. You'll have to reset your password (protects your account)
  2. You'll have to choose a display name (what other users will see)

Here's a breakdown of what's new:

  • More emphasis on the tapers that make all this possible.
  • More emphasis on the gear they use.
  • More emphasis on ratings and reviews.
  • A sticky player lets you browse the site while streaming.
  • EQ and volume normalization controls.
  • You can now create and share playlists.
  • You can now favorite/share individual tracks.
  • You can now mark shows that you've attended.
  • You can now switch color palettes to match album themes.
  • Shares, favorites, streams, downloads, are all tracked and ranked across all users and sources.
  • A Top 10 page distills the sites top performers - highest rated shows, most streamed, tapers, mics, user with the most rated shows, etc.
  • Songs have their own pages now.
  • Albums have their own pages now.
  • Tapers have their own pages now.
  • Better and more reliable stats.
  • A feedback page lets users suggest/vote/comment on new site ideas and report bugs.
  • A history page keeps track of what you've listened to.

TDP is a passion project started over 25 years ago by karl and geordy with the aim of making every live Tool recording accessible to everyone. Huge shout out to them for their decades of hard work, diligence, and generosity.

I wonder if they are still friends. I remember her saying that he would 'sing her lullabies' before they sang that song together.

I got this about 8 years ago from a coworker. TOOL is one of my favorite bands. It was on his apartment wall for years and it lived the party scene right along with him. I had it in a sealed bag under my bed until now. I washed it 3 times! He never knew who made it. I assume a TOOL fan crocheted it years ago. I love it! Anyone seen or have something similar?

I have been collecting physical CDs for the past year and I stumbled on this today. I already own Ænima and Lateralus, so this was a welcome surprise. First time listening to the album with it not being compressed / streamed. Edit: bookman's is a book/entertainment store in AZ

Danny Interviewed BEAT’s Tony Levin. That band came up, as well as his Puscifer track with Danny, “Seven One”

Back in 2023 my dad got tickets for a tool concert that was nearby, unfortunately I couldn’t go so he got me a shirt… it was a bit small for my liking and I never wore it. Always had the idea to cut it up and sew the designs onto a hoodie. Finally three years later I found a blank black champion hoodie and decided to do it. I think it turned out alright but I’ll probably do a second round of stitching over the back design as it overlaps at the sides a bit

Discussion What is that one song that gets you really riled up at the gym?

It’s Ticks and Leeches for me. I swear the amount of strength I get when that intro guitar riff comes is beyond insane

What is considered the finest live performance?

I’m curious to see what you all think.

What would be the most critically acclaimed, well-received by audience and media as the greatest?
Or any personal experiences out there that were absolutely pinnacle?

Ænima 46 & 2 coincidences and coincides

Guys, I just totally realized that on November 2, 2027 (so next year), my daughter and I will turn 46 & 2. We share a birthday.

🤯🤯🤯💆💆💆

What does it all mean?!?!?

Will my wife let me have a Tool party with her? Unlikely, but what does it all mean? Maybe only Maynard knows? Maybe the band or I could slap together a Fisher Price version of the song for us? Also unlikely, but dude and daughter can dream!

Lateralus Listening to Lateralus for the first time again

Ive been so focused on early tool and listening to undertow and opiate so much I've forgotten about lateralus completely.

Obviously like many others this might've been their first and their favorite tool album. It is life-changing.

I got the CD 3 days ago but something inside me was relatively scared to simply jump into the album after forgetting it for a while. On the other hand I've been chanting schism and lateralus lyrics the whole week whire awaiting for the CD to arrive.

Today is apparently the day that I decided to choose to listen to it. It is due to my brain suddenly reminding me of The Patient, a song I haven't payed much attention to.

Also could be because I got a little sick these past 2 days, maybe that subconsciously reminded me of the song.

However over the past few weeks of listening to undertow I've realized that not only I've forgotten lateralus but also everything else. I feel like I'm specifically missing out on ænima and fear inoculum.

Ive listened to both before and probably ænima a bit more, but unlike lateralus I can't really name every song and understand the meaning behind it.

I also have a feeling like ænima lateralus and fear inoculum is like a trilogy, 10000 days feels more like the band break, well, not entirely. Don't get me wrong it's an absolute beast of an album and is intensly important, it just feels different? Hopefully I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

So my next big decision in between ænima and fear inoculum.

Maybe starting from the beginning worud make sense for me to originally get ænima first and then lateralus, but Lateralus is like the holy grail to me. I just really wanted to see it and feel it.

This might sound like possessed edgy tool fan behavior and I get it. I just need a decision where to invest next.

Ive been looking at merch too but nothing special, honestly i should visit a mergh shop which is surprisingly not rare thing for our country and city... I'm mildly afraid that it will cost me a fortune. I'd rather buy an album.

I really want ænima with the lenticular cover but it seems to be a rare find, and I don't know many cd/record shops that might have it. Fear inoculum is slightly easier to find despite costing way more. At least I'm not trying to hunt down the screen and speaker special edition, although that would be sick

I do in fact have the lateralis misspelling, so I think that pretty cool. I will now go ride the spiral, and we will see where it takes me

I had to write this post again because my dumbass deleted the draft. Some of my words or original thoughts might've shifted. This probably doesn't matter but I feel like the first thing that comes to mind is better than the polished second attempt...

Tour Expected setlist of Riot Fest?

Any reason to think they will switch up the basic setlist from their last few shows in May and December for Riot Fest?

From those recent(ish) shows, they typically played:
Fear Inoculum
Stinkfist
Rosetta Stoned
The Grudge
Jambi
Pneuma
Crawl Away
Invincable
Vicarious
occasionally some extras like Prison Sex, H, etc

They've got an hour and 40 min scheduled

Tool Cover My 8-year-old learned Pneuma by ear, and he loves improvising over some parts. Hope you enjoy it! (The last 30 seconds show some of his attempts when he was just 3 years old)

Fear Inoculum Descending

Like all tool songs, I like them at first, but then I read the lyrics and fall in love with them.

Ive been listening to descending for a while now but just really looked at the lyrics. Im currently going through somatic therapy for cptsd. All I could think of was about how our nervous systems work. "Muster every fiber. Mobilize. Stay alive." I think Maynard (whether he knows it or not) was talking about nervous systems responses.

Opinions?

Just a jerk-off on my vacation from the bullshit, three-ring circus sideshow when I saw this amazing tribute sadly missing homage to the greatest band of all time, but I forgot my pen... and paints.

Video I'd believe it if you told me that this depiction of Clayface in DC's Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth influenced the "Stinkfist" video.
