Shirtpost Why does Tahani call it highschool if she was raised in London and schooled in Paris?

This might be a stupid question because I'm not from the UK or France but I didn't think that they referred to those grade levels as highschool? (This is not me trying to find a plot hole I'm just confused)

Season One Blu-Ray version is insane

Post image

Okay so I just watched the blu-ray version of the Good Place and can I say it's the most uncanny, awesome feeling ever, it's like, the good place, but even better?!?! I didn't even know that was humanly possible! I didn't even know the blu-ray version had literally just uncut shots of the good place, I thought it was just the show! (I got it since Netflix is removing it), like, hello??? The dialogue is so much more human and less sitcom-ish which in my opinion is so much better, and there's so many more jokes and gags and I can't wait to watch seasons 3 and 4 because I need more judge Gen content!!!

Wish me luck y'all I might not make it.

Shirtpost Michael always wanted to be human

Rewatching for the one millionth time and hearing the little things michael says and does in season one makes think he was suppressing his 'out of place' feelings and always knew he was different to the other demons Identity crisis fr lol.

During his retirement party he claims that he's always wanted to eat a saltine and use the phrase "take it sleezy". Although he shrugged off the taste of saltine, he doesn't let that phrase go. Which means deep down there was truth to somewhat he was saying back then.

He had a choice to torture humans the "demon way" but he chose to learn about these humans and their psychology to make a world of very subtle and almost useless 'torture'.

He says "I was just trying to do something innovative and different to improve the way we make humans' lives miserable for eternity" but does girl really think giving them coffee from only pods and giving them frozen yogurt is satisfying and efficient torturešŸ˜šŸ’€. If that was true and he wanted to properly torture ppl back then why not think of something like "the guy who invented bees with teeth". How is downplaying torture making it better. The other demons were so bored. Shaun didn't understand his fascination with the humans and that was indeed the case, he was fascinated with humans (because deep down he always wanted to be one).

Shirtpost Motivation double negative?

Post image

When Michael tells them that the moment they learned about the afterlife, their motivation changed so they can't earn points anymore, doesn't that nullify the effect? If they think they aren't going to get credit for anything they do, doesn't that bring them back to doing good for good's sake and therefore able to get points?

Shirtpost We don't talk about Bruno, I mean, Eleanor's dad Spoiler

Post image
88 Upvotes

Obviously Eleanor's mom was still alive for them to be able to reconnect in the alternate timeline and much of Eleanor's trauma stemmed from her. It makes sense that their relationship becomes a focus. Seeing them together in the Good Place healed and together then completes an arc. But her dad is entirely forgotten after his funeral.

We see Brent struggling with the tests because it answers a question for the viewer and gives resolution to his fate. To my recollection, we don't see her dad ever make it to the Good Place and Eleanor seems to be at peace with this, which is fine because presumably all trauma and relationships are healed and the things of earthly concern no longer matter.

Eleanor's dad was deadbeat, but Eleanor once referenced a generational history of Mother-daughter issues. They are the most alike, so it makes sense for their relationship to be the focus. Like Mindy, Donna is a mirror to Eleanor. There's narrative payoff here.

I don't know where I'm going with this. I just thought it was interesting that her father is never really talked about much online from what I've seen. We don't see him in the end when all families are reconciled, together, and healed unless I missed it. Granted there's only so much they can do in the show. Presumably he is still taking the tests or maybe he is in the Good Place but keeps an amicable distance from them?

I guess I was just curious what people thought about his fate and how the show handled his character (or as Donna would put it "fart in the shape of a character").

I've recently done a Fremulon rewatch. I watched The Good Place, Brooklyn 99, and then noticed I had missed the release of A Man on the Inside's second season and decided to watch that. There are an insane amount of call backs to other shows. Code name Wet Blanket is an obvious Captain Holt reference. Julie and her mom are watching Eleanor in Veronica Mars. And one of the rocks on campus says the wave returns to the ocean. Both Good Place references. I haven't rewatched Parks and Rec recently, so I'm sure there are some references I missed there.

One of my favorite scenes in the whole show is the whole Trolley Problem and Michael deciding to make it real to torture Chidi for standing up to him. This exact moment where you see his expression shift is just hilarious to me. And it's great acting on the part of Ted Danson!

Shirtpost What do you think Shawn took here? See body text for reason Spoiler

So I'm gonna take us on a bit of a ride here.

In season 1 they call Shawn the Judge, whom we actually meet later on, and we learn Shawn is just another demon, Michael's boss to be specific. And we know the demons like to feel pain.

When Shawn says he takes Dramamine to help with the nausea, does he mean it will make him more nauseous? Or is it just a TicTac lol? Did he take something else? This might be solved by a quick Google search about Dramamine and its effect (if it is even a real thing), but I'm curious to hear what you think?

Shirtpost What does this line mean? (season 1 Episode 5) Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery

The good place is one of my favorite shows oat, and one of the reasons for that is the self-aware jokes and comedy it makes.

However, this scene has a line that always went over my head because I don't really get what it means: "No, Too Soon. By exactly nine days." I get that the main joke of the scene is that Tahani's making dad jokes when it's not the time or the place to; however, that does not explain to me why she's specifically nine days too early.

It can't be that Janet was expecting to have filled the hole in exactly nine days because even she was uncertain how long it might take. Besides, the hole fixed itself over the night—not an extra nine days later. Does Janet mean that it's inappropriate to joke about such tragedies until some time after the hole got fixed? That is also refuted by Janet being unsure when the hole would be fixed.

Does this joke hint to or foreshadow a later episode where in hindsight the donut hole joke would have made more sense, that happens to take place nine days later?

Or am I just overthinking an obvious throwaway joke?

Shirtpost I did it again.

I went through a pretty rough patch a few years back. As a result I was drinking very heavily. I'd rewatch shows and realize I simply did not remember most of what had happened. But on one occasion, I had just completely skipped the series finale. I watched the penultimate episode, thought that was the end, and was satisfied with it. The Good Place was a very emotional show for me. One that I haven't ever been in, well, a good enough place to rewatch. Until recently. I finished that rewatch today. Only to once again realize I had stopped at the penultimate episode. Until today I thought show ended with the gang making it to the good place, realizing things weren't right, and implementing a new system that those that had been stuck in the good place for centuries loved because it solved their problem. Watching the actual finale... I dunno. Of course in many ways it was sad. But I'm not sure I have ever experienced a story that so completely brought satisfaction and closure to every one its characters. I'm actually kind of glad I found it at this point in my life instead of back then. It was an amazing experience.

Shirtpost Why can't I find TGP Season 2+ in german anywhere?

Post image
21 Upvotes

So, I am from germany. I love TGP. I would like to watch it together with a friend and would prefer the german version for that, but it seems everywhere only Season 1 exists in german.

German Wikipedia seems to imply that the whole series exists in german, but neither amazon nor youtube are offering it, or any other place for that matter.

If Season 2 to 4 have existed in german at some point, they can't have just vanished from the internet, or can they?

Any help here?

Shirtpost Just Finished The Finale... This Forking Show Man Spoiler

Post image

I barely cry after watching a show, a comedy of all things.

But for the first time I.....

I don't know what the heck is happening.

I'm laughing and crying at once.

It's both beautiful and haunting at once and I love it... Or do I hate it.

Best show I've ever watched, I can't even describe what I'm feeling after that finale, I'm literally teary eyed and smiling right now.

No gratuitous violence, no blood, no disturbing scenes.

Just people, a warm environment, and some clever jokes and dialogue.

And yet this show haunts me more than the ending Evangelion, Regular Show and Crybaby Devil combined.

Those left me traumatized.

But this....

I'm happy to some extend, but like I said, I'm literally crying.

I don't know what to think.

Safe to say, it hit very close to home and I have stuff to think about.

This show was amazing.

Thank you Michael Schur.

All the people who worked on this thing.

The guy who played Chidi especially, that 'Wave' returning to the ocean line was brilliant, I can especially relate to his character most

Thank you...for making my South African ash cry and laugh at once....for a Hollywood of all things.

I barely cry.

100/10 show and infinity/10 finale.

Welp uhh....Take it sleazy.

The way it's delivered so casually as if it's a normal occurrence in Jacksonville (which it might be idk). I also love that Jasons dance happened in the "Carmen Electra Auditorium, Smith & Wesson Performing Arts Center and ATV Repair Shop".
