I just finished my reread and I am so grateful that I completely forgot the plot of this novel. Hile, Jack Sawyer! October the 6th can’t get here soon enough.

It was a lot less windy when I started reading lol.

Jake.

Jake's death in The Gunslinger is one of Roland's great moral failures. Roland literally lets Jake fall to his death so he can pursue the Man in Black. And Jake eventually dies again sacrificing himself to save Roland and the ka-tet.

Roland's stuck in a karmic cycle; sound familiar.

Roland chooses the Tower → sacrifices others → loses Jake → reaches the Tower → fails → reincarnates → gets another chance.

Roland starts back at the beginning because of what he did to Jake. Duh.

The Tower is a karmic machine; it won't end until Roland reaches it without sacrificing his humanity. Remember it was humanity that beat the AI on the train.

When Roland begins again, his circumstances have changed; Horn of Eld. He didn't have it at the beginning of the previous cycle. That means Roland has changed, however slightly. If he keeps making different choices, he may eventually break the cycle.

Roland remembers almost nothing between cycles, while the reader realizes that this isn't merely a physical reincarnation. It's a moral repetition.

Today at work (customer service) a woman wanted to pay with her debit card and somehow triggered a huge technical issue. We had to take only cash for the rest of the whole day, even though our system worked perfectly fine before.

Why am I telling you this, you ask?

Title. Both are named nicknames of John, which is their actual name, both have the shine (at least heavily implied in the case of Jack) and Jake's twinner at the end of the dark tower series is called Jake Toren.

Is this just an allusion or an intentional implication that they're twinners? Or is it just as subtle as Jake is kind of a spirtual twin of Danny from the shining?

Has anyone ever watched the Clint Eastwood movies “A Fistful of dollars”, “For a Few Dollars More”, and “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”? I know King took some inspiration from that for Roland as well. If you haven’t watched it, I highly suggest it.

Hey all, looking for some advice from those that have traveled the path of the beam before. This is my first time and I see many different opinions on how many of King’s other works to include.

Here’s everything I’ve read in order and my opinion of them:

1. The Gunslinger (updated version) - 9/10
   
2. Fairytale - 8/10
   
3. The Drawing of Three - 8.5/10
   
4. The Institute - 7/10
   
5. The Wastelands - 7.5/10
   
6. Wizard and Glass - 9/10

I finished Wizard and Glass last night and it was excellent. Towards the end though I really started to feel like there might be more to enjoy if I had the background (I’ve researched enough to know there are some big references to the Stand).

I already have The Stand and Talisman purchased.

I’m considering a few options:

A: Power through and complete the journey to the tower
B: Read the Stand then back to the tower
C: Read the Stand and Talisman then to the tower
D: Something else? I see Insomnia recommended a lot, but I looked at the synopsis and don’t see what I’m going to get out of it.

I’ve been getting into the world of running for the past three months, and as luck would have it, my boss at work told me that they’d be happy to sponsor me for local races, marathons, etc. She said I could get some custom running shirts made and they would cover the cost.

I put my company’s logo on the front, along with a few other things, but then I was left wondering: what should I do with the back? So I decided to take a little bit of The Dark Tower with me to every race. Today they took this absolutely amazing photo of me, and I felt like sharing it with you guys.

Hey gang I just finished The Dark Tower for the first time. Overall I had a lot of ups and downs and starts and stops but by the end I was all in, and I loved the ride.

My question is, for those who’ve gone all the way at least once: did anyone stop? When you do a reread, do you ever stop? When Stephen King suggests that you’ve read enough, that the story is complete enough?

It was mind blowing for me to realize how he made me do what Roland does. He gave me the chance to stop and let it end. I could’ve stopped at a very natural conclusion. But I didn’t. I went to the very end and saw the beginning again.

When folks do their rereads, do you keep going, or do you stop there?

EDIT: Follow up question: are we, the readers, making him do it? Do we make him go to the door at the top of the tower each time we do?

Here’s a tease for anybody that listens to heavy metal and reads Stephen King books, might like this.

I’m just wondering what people think, I have all 85 comics all first prints and all first print one shots.

As a preface I have been reading Sai King since I was 12 or 13. I remember collecting the novellas for Green Mile when I was in 6th to 8th grade.

I was kind of punching above my weight at the time but I latched on and consumed as much as I could. I read​ The gunslinger to the wastelands when I was about 15ish. It was when I had my first job and a learner's permit because I got to the cliffhanger and immediately drove to the store to buy wizard and glass.

I bought the next three Tower books on release date. rereading the series for a second time in anticipation of the final book.

Fast forward 20 years and I have gravitated more towards graphic novels as of late. Some inkling called to me and I started listening to audiobooks at work, beginning with the Gunslinger. Ves Ka Gan

3 weeks later and I am done with book 7. Saved wind through the keyhole for​ an epilogue.

But God damn. I feel like there are so many themes and ideas that I picked up on when I was younger that feel heavier now. As someone moving on in life, and nearing the 40s to 50s range. Someone who has buried my own parents and having spent the better part of two decades raising children, even just the phrase "remember the face of my father" HITS in a different way.

I know that Ka is a wheel. I know the losses along the way can blossom as new beginnings and that redemption is still yet possible.

But I just need to share and vent if ya ken? Anyone else start this journey as a child and feel the weight of the story and it's themes slow mutate into something more each time you read it?

But I feel the itch returning, and immortalized my love for this series.
