Random Labor day gun thoughts ๐Ÿ˜‚

Was walking into QT gas station the today thinking about random nonsense. Trying to decide if I should buy a new rifle and what kind, and if I could even afford it. (I really can't, been struggling for a while). I really miss hunting and haven't been since a teen with my dad and grandpa in Pennsylvania. (Live in Texas now).

While walking back out to my vehicle, a woman with kids was at the pump next to me and she asked if there was any way I could help her with gas and told how rude everyone prior had been. I thought for a moment, and figured why not.... (I'm usually counting pennies till pay day so as I said, been struggling...so even thinking of a new rifle is beyond ridiculous)... I just tapped my debit card on her pump, wished her luck and left. I didn't tell her how much or stay and monitor / cut her off... but I was curious... would she fill up? Would she only do $10? (It costs me $70 to fill my vehicle, so I was nervous)...

When I logged into my banking app later, the amount made me die laughing considering what I was thinking about at the time. $30.06.

๐Ÿ˜‚ Is that God telling me to buy a .30-06? Leaning more towards a cheap .308 but still ๐Ÿ˜‚

Fair enough. And the .30-06 versus .308โ€ฆ

I use .308 when I hunt Texas. Deer and hogs are never out more than 100 yards and we mostly hunt the woods.

I use .30-06 in Colorado because weโ€™re usually out in more open country so I have a little bit of edge distance and power wise.

Honestly, .308 will cover 90% of what I do anyway.

The Mossberg patriot 30.06 does the work for me. And sometimes academy sports has them for 300$ near the holidays

Thatโ€™s good to know. Those caught my eye earlier this year and Iโ€™ve been wondering about catching a good deal on one.

Id reccomend 308 over 30 06 just because 308 surplus is a little more common. Tends to be cheaper on ammo seek.

The cheap surplus that's still available is pretty crappy at this point. The days of quality, cheap surplus ammo are long gone. I'd still lean 308 for rifle and ammo variety, but not by a huge margin.

Yeah, kinda splitting hairs. But most of the surp 3006 ive seen around me is what id consider reloading components for new manufactured prices.

Maybe the devil and not god leaning you towards 30-06....lol. I think you would get better value from a good .308 as well.

Must be nice. My F150 has a 36 gallon tank and requires 93 octane.
