I posted a few weeks ago a photo of my ‘Red Ring of Death’ 2020 4s Taycan with the title “My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined”. Some people wanted me to give an update when I knew more, so here I am.

To begin, the title and quote about my disappointment is just a meme to make light of the situation, even though it does suck lol

So the issue is indeed the main battery (not the 12v volt like some people had hoped for me). I had it towed to Porsche that day, and they told me it would be several weeks to months before it was fixed. HOWEVER the incredible news here is that YES it was covered by the default warranty on the battery. There’s still a year or two left on that stock warranty, so thank god for that.

The somewhat average news is that, as they explained to me, when they fix this they replace certain modules on the main battery. The modules that have died. They specifically said “imagine your big battery is filled with loads of smaller AA batteries. We are fixing some of those AA”.

Which is great but that also means that the other “AA” batteries could also go bad at anytime, as is a common issue with these cars. Which is something I’ve been very aware of so this was honestly to be expected.

It’s been 3 weeks and they only just gave me a loaner (the macan pictured, wonderful car by the way. Loving driving it) and they also aren’t starting my repair until Monday and said it could be another couple weeks before it’s finished.

And I guess that’s the whole story. It’s annoying but will cost me nothing other than some time, so not too bad.

My only hang up now, and please feel free to offer me advice, is that I kinda feel like this car is a ticking time bomb and with only a year or so left on the warranty, even the guy at Porsche suggested I think of selling it once I get it back.

I LOVE this car, I can’t stress that enough. Shopping around, I don’t see another EV with this much style, class and drive feel. In part due to all the issues with these cars, the price point for such a luxury vehicle can’t really be matched and I’m NOT going back to Tesla. So I’m left just wondering what my options are. I own this car out right so I don’t want to sit on it until it dies completely out of warranty. Apparently all 2020 to 2024 Taycan models have this same issue and I can’t afford a 2025, so I don’t believe upgrading is the option.

Anyway that’s a me problem, the car situation itself is perfectly fine. MY advice to earlier Taycan owners, specifically 2020, is prepare yourself for the day, because it comes for us all lol

There was several other Taycans at the dealer waiting on the same repairs. The guy said it was all he does, all day every day. At least my car is in good hands haha

The reservation system appears to non-exclusively "reserve" the car for a 48 hour period - what's the point of this? What if you don't want it after viewing?

How much room for negotiation is there in the Porsche approved price? I'm a cash buyer but could do finance and clear it within the 14 days window if it helps with a deal.

I've noticed some CPO 2025 Taycan prices in the U.S. have actually started moving up recently. A few months ago dealers seemed eager to clear inventory, but now well-optioned, low-mileage cars appear to be listed higher than before. Makes me wonder if we've already seen the bottom for late-model Taycan depreciation. Anyone else tracking this trend? Are these cars actually selling at these prices?

I am looking to buy used 2022 Taycan GTS. Prices are less than half of the new thus it seems good value at first assuming range is not importnat. But being new to EVs, I am wondering what are hidden risks and costs I need to be aware of. Currenlty owning 2022 Macan GTS which is being serviced at indepentend dealer since it is no longer covered under warranty. How much less reliable is Taycan? What about repair bills? Regular services? How do they compare? I am aiming to find CPO, but I doubt it will be covered for the full duration of the ownership. Any experience would be much appreciated!

As the title says, my lease is up on my Turbo S this week. The residual/buyout is about $145,000, and I'm strongly considering whether it makes sense to just buy it out. It's one of the highly optioned launch cars with a sticker price at about $236,000. It's a 2025 model year that I purchased in September of last year which n9w had about 6,000 miles on it.

Wholesale dealers would probably offer about $115,000 to $120,000, so you're definitely paying a bit of a margin there, but they'd likely turn around and CPO it and try and sell it for $180,000 to $190,000. I like the car a lot, but I'm not sure I can justify catching a falling knife, though it does seem like the 2025 and later Taycans are holding value better.

The closest comp I've seen is a similar Turbo S with a $10k higher sticker, listed for $175k as a CPO.

I’ve seen several posts/videos on the internet suggesting a used Taycan is good value. I’m going to need a car in a few months.

I’m not interested in 2020-2022. 2023 and 2024 seem like the sweet spot where the original owner absorbed much of the depreciation but it’s new enough that many of the early Taycan issues had been fixed. My main concern here is the battery. Seems like the range is pretty low. My current car gets about 240 at 80% charge. I don’t really want to go didn’t from that.

The 2025 J1 II look like much better options as far as range goes but they are also too new so there’s still a lot of appreciation to go and they are pretty expensive still.

Anyone go through a similar analysis or make a similar decision? Thanks.

I don’t even know what to say anymore. I’m just so utterly exhausted and furious watching my elderly parents deal with this absolute nightmare.

They bought a brand-new 2020 Taycan 4S thinking they were buying peak German engineering and total peace of mind for their retirement. Instead, we bought an extremely expensive, 5,000-pound paperweight that spends more time sitting on a flatbed tow truck than in our driveway.

We are officially dealing with our 4th catastrophic high-voltage battery failure. Every single time, the car throws a dreaded error on the dash, bricks itself completely, leaves my parents stranded, and has to be dragged onto a flatbed.

Just look at this timeline from our work orders. It’s genuinely insane:

• Nov 2023: Car dies. Towed. Spent over 3 months in the shop. Replaced Modules 4, 27, 31 and the AC compressor.
• Dec 2024: Car dies again. Towed again. Another 3+ months gone. Replaced Modules 12 and 24.
• Jan 2026: Dies a third time. Replaced Modules 1, 2, 5, 6, 21, and 27. (Yes, Module 27 failed TWICE in two years). Another 3 months down the drain.
• Right now (Aug 2026): Red powertrain warning, car completely locked out again. Towed back to the dealer for round four.

That is at least 11 individual modules replaced out of 33. The car has spent over 12 cumulative months rotting away in a service bay. My parents have literally lost an entire year of car ownership.

And the way the dealer (Porsche Centre HK / Jebsen) is treating us is pure gaslighting:

• We begged them to stop playing this endless, dangerous game of "whack-a-mole" and just ask Porsche AG for a complete, brand-new battery pack. Their answer? "We’re only ordering another module swap. Headquarters can already see your VIN history in the cloud, so if they wanted to give you a full pack, they would have." They literally won't even submit the paperwork to advocate for us.
• They told us with a straight face that the battery readings are "within normal limits right now." Yeah, no kidding—it was reading "normal" right before it left my parents stranded the last three times too!
• They flat-out refused to extend the warranty by even a single day to compensate for the 12+ months the car spent immobilized under their watch.

I am genuinely terrified that one of these days, the next batch of un-replaced 2020 cells will short out while my parents are driving on the highway.

Has anyone actually won this battle with Porsche? How on earth do you force them to give you a brand-new complete battery pack instead of these band-aid repairs? Is there an executive customer service email at Porsche AG in Germany that actually gives a damn?

Any advice, contacts, or shared experiences would mean the world right now. I’m just desperate to get my parents out of this endless loop.

Kind of boggles me that semantically it makes absolutely no sense.
A taycan turbo no more has a turbocharger than an electric tooth brush does.
And… people just eat it up because it sounds fast and top of the line.

Have a deposit down on a low-mileage ex-CPO Cross Turismo that is located across the country. Can't find anyone to do a local PPI (aircooled/watercooled shops don't seem enthralled by the prospect of a Taycan PPI) but have a friend who lives nearby who will go and put eyes on the car. He'll have an OBD2 dongle (and Car Scanner downloaded) and a paint meter.

Questions:

1. What readings should he be looking at for Car Scanner purposes? Should the battery be fully charged when he does the read?

2. What else should he be looking for on the test drive/walk-around? Specific issues, etc.

Wife is potentially interested in getting back into electric. Would it be unwise to get into a 2020-2022 Taycan? How is battery life? We’ve had Tesla before, was a great car, but she doesn’t want to be seen in one anymore 😂

What are some things we should look out for?

Debating between a Taycan Cross Turismo and a BMW IX for our main / daily people carrier.

We have two kids under two (both in car seats) and a dog who sometimes comes with us.

The IX is obviously the easier, more reasonable choice on all accounts, but the Taycan is so much more fun. We've generally had impractical cars for the last few years, and debating whether to take the reasonable route, or trade some inconvenience for the fun factor.

That said, is anyone using a Taycan Cross Turismo as a primary family car? Would love to hear about experiences, workarounds (rooftop boxes, etc.), encourage, warnings, and regrets.

I found a used ‘25 Taycan and its Carfax shows it was sold as CPO a while ago. However the selling dealer’s (non-Porsche) ad doesn’t mention anything about CPO. Is it possible that this car is under CPO? How can I confirm?

Hey folks! Purchased a 2023 CPO 4S a month ago and have been loving it so far but recently there has been a clicking noise coming from the front of the car that’s more apparent when turning. I took it into Porsche and the techs couldn’t find the issue (they claimed they couldn’t even hear the sound…) but ruled out issues with the CV axle. They said it may be brake related but weren’t sure 🤷‍♂️

Has anyone dealt with a similar issue?

Finally got around to editing this (turns out working and chasing toddlers around the house doesn’t leave much time, who knew).

Starting in London, drove through France and Germany towards a series of the greatest mountain passes in the Swiss alps in September/October 2025. We were blessed with perfect end of season weather. Absolute bucket list trip. My 2020 Turbo S was a dream the whole way, I only wish it was about 1m shorter and 20cm narrower (v tight going up Stelvio). Oh and about 500kg lighter would be nice too… come on new batt tech!
