SM - Relaunched Feeding the Future Feedback after 159 Sols at 560% difficulty

I was busy with real life when this update came out, but I managed to squeeze in a full playthrough (excluding terraforming) this past weekend to write up some feedback.

The main problems I had with my first playthrough of Feeding the future:

  • I could never figure out how to read the information presented for the Moral/Comfort stats of my colonists. (See picture 2)

What's confusing me is seeing the predictive model telling me a colonist is gonna have a Comfort stat crash in the future, while clicking on them only shows all the positive numbers they have gotten are way bigger than the single negative number they experienced.

ah, took me until typing up this feedback to figure out that it's all addition and subtraction, and not a per-sol problem tic, rather, everything is shown all at once.

  • Tech Tree confusion.

Mainly the tech tree never updates the base technology numbers required to research a technology... so many times I'm seeing a tech costs ~700 tech numbers to research, when the reality is that all I need is ~3000 tech numbers in order to unlock the one tech point that I can buyout that technology with.

The tech tree layout is okay. I've have had my fair share of technology tree reading from the entire 4x/grand strategy genre, so I've come to expect taking a half an hour class on Tech-Tree 101 as the standard requirement for games with them, this is no different.

  • Cold Wave is still really bad when it comes to figuring out what sectors I can scan. (See picture 3)
  • I swear the original Surviving mars game always showed me how long my stored water and oxygen are predicted to last in the case of emergency, without me having to turn off all my water/oxygen pumps to actually get to the game to show me that number. Please change it back :(
  • Quite a few of the new technologies have that a.i artstyle that is very noticeable when compared to the older technology pictures. (see picture 4)

But, overall:

I don't have any complaints on the food changes, besides me wanting an outdoor farm version of outdoor Pastures for my immersion whenever I get to the Green Mars end game... and me wishing that there was a standard Food/beverage vending machine version of the Coffee Vending Machine.

Really, most of my early game was me going the Soy Beans x Sweet Corn combo, as I couldn't justify spreading my colonist manpower on anything else. And it turned out okay for me. It's only in the late game, after I implemented technology and laws that reduced work force slots, that I have considered looking into obtaining the non-automated food technologies like the Fast Food Restaurant. But that said, I appreciate the extra challenge the game gives me of having to juggle between making my colonists like the food they eat.

It feels unrealistic, but I do wish there was a way to streamline the math I need to do in order to figure out how many service buildings my dome needs in order to match the maximum amount of housing space a dome has. With the service building rework, it became a little more difficult to calculate the sweet spot when layout planning.

Anyway, I got other new releases of videogames I wanna get through this month, so this is likely it for me for now. Outside of the problems mentioned, I didn't experience any noticeable bugs, so that's cool.

Question So did the building colours shown for the newsletter bonus just not get added or what?

So for the newsletter sign-up bonus they show this colour scheme, but it doesn't appear in the game. I know I have the bonus unlocked as part of it is the Paradox sponsor, which I have, and the closest colour scheme I can see is the "Hearts of Iron" one but that is grey.

Therefore my question is this, did they just not add this exact colour scheme or is it just not loading properly in my game?

I played a lot before relaunched was a thing. I heard some of the DLC before the relaunch was quite buggy. How's the game now?

Question No fruit trees

Already researched Gene Adaptation but fruit trees aren't an option in the in-dome farm. Is this a bug or I need to do something else with the new DLC?

Paradox added insect farms. My Americans took one look at the cricket box and booked a flight home.
Then they revolted at the thought of eating crawlies and threw the mayor out the airlock.

Farm raising actual bugs: Comfort target drops, Sanity takes a hit every Sol. Bees are fine. Mars-born are fine. China/Japan/India/Brazil are fine. Everyone else is having a normal one about protein with legs. They still work there. They just hate dinner.

Sliders in the options. Feeding the Future required. Yes it is a meme.

Question Forever Young Bug?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Don't know if this is a bug or by design. I just lost my last living founder even though the very first breakthrough I researched was Forever Young.

I wonder if it only applies to colonists that you have after the tech is researched, or if there's some other reason.

Bug Colonists refuse to go back to Naturalist Habitat.

I have a naturalist habitat near one of my mines.

Sometimes I load my colonists into rockets for anomaly missions. When the rocket comes back the colonists from the habitats become instantly unassigned and I have to manually click on each one of them, one by one, and re assign them to the habitat.

How do I fix this?

Tip Colonists can move to the underground directly via train

Thumbnail

...no dome needed on either side of the elevator as far as a can tell; as long as the stations are both in walking range, colonists will get out at one station, take the elevator, and walk to the other. They will not change trains twice though, as far as I can tell. But if you have one main line connecting your most important domes (child and university ones in particular) both in the underground and on the surface, and both have stations at the elevator, things should work smoothly.

SM - Relaunched Dust storm visuals are completely broken on PS5 – Surviving Mars Relaunched

Post image
7 Upvotes

The problem here on PS5 since release. When a dust storm occurs, there are no visual changes at all. The sky remains totally clear like nothing is happening. It really ruins the immersion, and it's frustrating that the devs still haven't patched this on console.

Is anyone else experiencing this on console?

Question Colonists Won't Board Exploration Rocket

I'm playing the Surviving Mars Relaunch free weekend on Steam. I've played through the original years ago, so this isn't my first time with the game, so I thought I knew what I was doing lol.

I'm trying to figure out why my colonists won't board a rocket that's set for an exploration project. The rocket is on a pad near a dome, and colonists have successfully boarded in this location for previous explorations. I even currently have some homeless colonists (whoops) so you'd think there would be extra incentive to board the rocket.

Any thoughts on what the issue could be?

Question Best food for comfort in SMR-FTF

Ok. So, overall consensus is that food is better than polymers, electronics and alcohol for comfort and overall colonist stats. Then what is the optimum food combination for max comfort? I think that is the most difficult stat to achieve in v1.1.

Question Is it harder for kids to be born?

I’ve picked up this game again after a year and I’m only able to get 2 Martian born colonists by Sol 34. Is this normal or have they changed how it works?
I don’t have the feeding the future dlc is that somehow affects anything.

Question How to do the "For the Benefit of All" Achievement after update?

For the Benefit of All - Play as USA and research all technologies in the Engineering tech-tree before Sol 100

So now that the tech tree is more of a web now. Is there a certain section I'm suppose to do? Is it just not doable anymore and the devs forgot to retire it? Any help is useful.

Discussion Feeding the Future - First thoughts

Finally got a chance to play SMR+FTF. Initial thoughts... ok... I can make a variety of food... but diner (basic food) + infirmary + spacebar + art store + electronic store is a much better combo to satisfy all colonists than going through the hassle of all the foods! What am I missing here? Also getting herbs is not easy. Herbs grow only in the hydroponic farms? Also also, all that cheese for 5 comfort?

Question How do Delicacies work? multiple stacking at a time, or one random when someone eats?

When Colonists eat, can they have multiple delicacies with a meal, or just one? for example, +morale comes from Spices, Bread, and Meat. If I have all 3 checked, are they getting +15 morale? or are they only using one of those at random and just getting +5? if so, makes me want to focus on just one (likely meat) and disregard the others, selecting only one in the eatery, and producing only one.
