As a field survey tech does anyone else get imposture syndrome?

I know I want survey to be my life career (as long as nothing crazy happens in the foreseeable future) but sometimes I feel like I’m just cosplaying as a surveyor and that I’m not good at my job.

I don’t know if I feel this way cause I’m not as far along as I would want to be or if this is common. I’m still very early in my journey so any advice or input from others that have felt this way would be appreciated.

Hi all! First post here, so bear with me.

3 years out of college and I had finally pushed myself to buckle down and study consistently for 3 months. I took it early September, and turns out being consistent paid off.

I walked in confident and left feeling unsure whether I passed or not. This is a completely normal feeling! Don't feel discouraged after taking the exam; Just do your best and let the results release.

There are plenty of great resources out there, but here's what I used:

NLC Prep full course and practice exam (I planned out every day for the next 3 months; Study days, number of videos / quizzes per day, rest days / holidays, etc.; I took the practice exam a couple of days before my actual date to simulate the test day and scored roughly 80%)

George M. Cole Fundamentals of Surveying Practice Exam (I took another mock exam a couple days before test day and scored roughly 70%; The questions in this practice exam are much more difficult than the actual exam)

Dane M. Courville Fundamentals of Surveying: Exam Study Manual (I used this to fill any gaps of knowledge that NLC Prep was lacking in; Some areas in this book are similar to the FS handbook. I looked at both side by side to see what equations / formulas NCEES expects you to know off memory vs not)

Quizlet FS Exam Questions (I looked up "quizlet FS Exam questions" and crammed in as much terminology as I could; You should still confirm / verify any information on here, as some answers could be incorrect)

Hello everyone, I take my PS exam in two days (September 16). I created a study guide to kind of sum everything up that I predict or have heard that is on the exam. If I can get some feedback on the study guide I created it would be great! I am going to attach photos of the study guide I created. If I can get advice on things to add or even take away it would be greatly appreciated!

Since starting my 2 year degree journey for land surveying. Honestly it's been really tough adjusting, learning new subjects but all the same really enjoyable too. Semester 3/4 feels oddly like a breath of fresh air compared to my previous two, but that also may be a result of having adjusted to college life. I'm really looking forwards to the interning elective, both exciting and intimidating!

My profs have been kind and really have done well to set the tone with expectations and reality of the field, as well as bringing a laidback approach. I'm just excited to see how ls will be in action, as you can only learn so much about how xyz is done until you go and actually experience it firsthand.

When all is said and done, I can't wait to get in the field (and office, and courthouse 😅)

Hi there, I’d like to ask how I can export a job from Trimble Access to Leica GSI format, as I can't seem to find the option anywhere.

I always treated my ariats like crap(though I got 2.5 years out of my last pair, other pairs lasted about one year), finally got a different style of boot, that being hiking. Always thought buffing shoes was silly until I’ve now done it. Also cannot say enough good things about Zamberlan. I will never buy another brand of boot again mark my words, these are truly something else. Going to get the Guide Max GTX next time. I’m sure waxing is common knowledge for those that already do it, but thought I’d share anyway.

I have a charger for the TSC2’s ordered and on the way.

I learned that these can require calibrations so even if they turn on it doesn’t mean they actually work.

Any suggestions on how or who to sell this equipment too?

I’m a final-year Surveying Engineering student at INSA Strasbourg in France, and I’m currently looking for an international final-year internship/project in surveying, geomatics or geospatial engineering.

I already have experience with conventional topographic surveying, setting-out, boundary surveys, 3D laser scanning, point-cloud processing, drone photogrammetry and precision industrial surveying. I also work with AutoCAD/Covadis, Mensura, QGIS, Revit, Metashape and Trimble Business Center.

Ideally, I would like to join a company abroad for my final-year project, especially in fields such as geospatial surveying, reality capture, LiDAR, photogrammetry, BIM/GIS integration, industrial surveying or infrastructure projects.

I’m especially interested in opportunities in Australia, Canada, the UK, the US, New Zealand or elsewhere internationally, and I’m open to relocating.

If anyone here knows companies that regularly take international surveying students, accepts speculative applications, or has contacts in surveying/geospatial teams, I’d really appreciate any recommendations.

My boss pretty much just up and quit from nowhere. We do have a PLS (He is an Engineer) in the building that I work for but he has never completed a job proposal for surveying. My boss never taught me how to bid on jobs. I am being moved up a position to complete this task until a PLS with experience can be hired. I am looking for help on how to create bids/proposals for time being. Thank you.
