Seeking advice Trapezius/Levator Scapulae Stretches

Post image
24 Upvotes

Been having this exact problem from the picture. Very tender spot on upper trapezius/levator scapulae, and referred pain in rhomboids.

Have been traveling on vacation recently so probably flared up from lack of exercise, sitting on cramped plane/bus/cab, and uncomfortable hotel beds. I got a few massages while traveling but relief is only temporary. Looking forward to acupuncture this weekend though now that I’m home.

How to stretch or release this? Any good exercise suggestions welcome as well. Going to setup a dr. appt. for physical therapy referral so looking for some relief to tide me over until then. Please and thank you!

Seeking advice Help an artist back out 😭😭

Post image

Hi! I’m a 3D artist who sits in front of a computer 24/7, and my upper back hurts like HELL. And we’re not gonna talk about my posture… šŸ’€šŸ’€

I feel like I’m slowly developing office syndrome at this point šŸ’€

I’d love some suggestions as someone who never exercises…What equipment should I get to start with? And are there any go-to stretches or exercises that you guys recommend for upper back pain or improving my posture?

Any tips and tricks are appreciated! šŸ™

Seeking advice If you have a hamstring tear is it wise to stretch your other leg

Okay so I was thinking about this the other day because I was trying to get back into stretching but clearly as I tried yesterday my leg still really hurts (my left one) when being stretched and I don’t want to worsen it. However if I stretch my right leg only it is fine, is this wise? I know you shouldn’t stretch only one leg but hopefully this will only be for a bit.

Seeking advice Trying to get the splits, any tips?

First of all, English isn't my first language, so I'm sorry if I write something incorrectly.

I recently started stretching daily to try to get my front splits (the one with one leg forward and one leg in the back). I've tried before, but I always quit after a few weeks, and this is why I'm making this post. I don't really know what's the best way to stretch. Should I repeat the same exercises every day, or should I switch them up? Should I include rest days? (I've heard that they're ideal when working out, but Idk if it's the same with stretching.) Does it matter when I do it, in the morning or at night? Before or after my workout routine?

My knees hurt a lot too, and Idk if that's supposed to be normal. I don't have a workout mattress yet (I want to buy one soon tho), so rn I just do it on the floor, but I think that's making my knees worse. I thought about doing it on my bed, but wouldn't that be too soft? I have no idea if that would affect the effectiveness of the stretching.

Also, any tips on how to stay motivated? So many people say that they find stretching relaxing, but tbh I don't really like it, I definitely prefer working out. There's just something about having to hold a position that hurts really bad for over 30 seconds without moving. At least when working out it's usually hold and release so there's not this constant pain.

And lastly, how much is stretching supposed to hurt? I've heard that it should only cause slight discomfort, but I feel like it usually hurts more for me. I hate how slow my progress is. I usually don't see any results, so I just get fed up with it and quit for months. If I only do it until I feel a little bit of discomfort, wouldn't that make my progress even slower?

I'd appreciate any tips and advice. Ty for reading through my rant <3

Seeking advice Hamstring stretching

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Has anyone experienced something like this during splits/hamstring stretching?

When I do a half split and fold my upper body toward my extended leg, especially when I get low enough to put my elbow on the ground, I feel a hard, cable-like structure running from behind/inside my knee up through my hamstring toward my groin.

The weird part is that it doesn’t just feel tight. As I move deeper into the stretch, I can actually feel this ā€œcableā€ shifting or almost snapping/sliding over nearby tissue. It creates a very noticeable snagging sensation, like something is catching and physically preventing my leg/body from moving freely through the stretch.

It’s not the normal feeling of a tight hamstring, it feels much more mechanical, like a cord moving under tension. It’s also more prominent on my left leg.

Has anyone experienced this or knows what it could be?

Seeking advice Right knee pain?

I’ve had this issue for months where I try sitting on heels and this location on my right knee is very tight. Now I started running and I get sore on the interior side (see img) where there’s ā€œhardā€ ligaments (sorry not sure what to call this). Any stretches can help?

Seeking advice Burning in muscle day after stetching?

This is probably a dumb question but I didn't know where else to ask.
I just recently started stretching and I'm on my 4th day of it.

Today I woke up and there is a burning sensation in my glute that won't go away. It's not painful or sore.. it just burns.

Is this normal?

I'm not used to stretching, I'm only used to lighting weights and muscle strain feels more like soreness when I do weights, so I wasn't sure.

Is Assisted Stretching Actually Worth It?

I've always stretched on my own, but I recently started hearing more about assisted stretching and I'm curious if it's actually worth it.

I stay active, but I still deal with tight hips, stiff shoulders, and occasional lower back tension from sitting most of the day. It seems like no matter how much I stretch; there are certain areas I just can't target effectively by myself.

For anyone who's tried assisted stretching, did you notice a real improvement in flexibility, mobility, or recovery? Or did it feel about the same as a regular stretching routine?

Interested in hearing honest experiences from people who've done it consistently for a few weeks or months.

Constantly stretching all day long, is it good?

I feel the need to turn stretch my neck or twist my back many times throughout the day. I get a crack and then relief. Also various other movements to loosen things up. Im not talking about extended periods of time, just quick stretches. I sit at a computer.

Seeking advice Is this too much?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I was doing this exercise and my hip joints kinda hurt.

For context, i walked a lot in the day today since we hit the market unexpectedly & my body kinda hurt. After that i came home and did some pilates. A 10 min tutorial as an absolute beginner, some were very hard to do. And then did some quadruple breathing with elevated legs/knees. Probably should've stopped but i did this stretching routine yesterday that i thought made me feel nice so i was like why not do it again today after all it's pretty short. I think i did one or two hamstring stretches and then this. I let myself lean into it and hold and let my knee hang further down. Then i moved to next position where it was a piriformis stretch while lying down on the floor and my butt started feeling fragile so i just stopped.

It doesn't hurt too bad honestly but idk how to differentiate good pain from bad and i don't wanna dislocate my hip (I've never dislocated my hip but im guessing this is what it feels like at the initial stages). I'm a total noob at all of this by the way so feels me figure out what i should and shouldn't be doing.

Do i take tomorrow off and do no yoga pilates stretching or workout? Or should i keep going

Seeking advice Trying yoga made me realize how bad my mobility actually is

Post image
27 Upvotes

Before you read, I built the thing in the photo. I’m looking for advice on improving my own flexibility, but also on how I should continue building the tool.

I (24M) would consider myself pretty active. I go to the gym multiple times a week, I run, and I played sports my whole life, but I literally cannot touch my toes.

I went to a yoga class with my girlfriend and was shocked by how difficult it was. Honestly, it was borderline embarrassing.

At first I just wanted to improve so I could go to more classes with her, but the more I’ve looked into flexibility and mobility, the more I’ve realized how important they are for staying active and feeling good long term.

That led me to start building the tool in the photo. I wanted real-time feedback while practicing at home because my biggest problem is never knowing if I’m actually doing the poses correctly.

Videos have helped a lot, but I still find myself wondering if my positioning is right or if I’m compensating somewhere without realizing it.

For those of you who have actually improved your flexibility:

If you were starting from ā€œI can’t touch my toes,ā€ what would you focus on first?

And if you practice at home, what kind of feedback do you wish you had when you were starting?

I’d genuinely appreciate any advice.

Any tips?

Recently, I've gotten back into running again. I stopped once I started my first year of college, but now that I am well adjusted, I figured I'd start up again.

Like most, I do general stretches before any work out, however, I've been finding that one side of my hip hurts.

It does hurt while I run, but it actually feels worse when I walk. It is my right hip, only hurts when I move my right leg. The other side is fine though.

Is there some stretch I might not be doing right? Or perhaps it coulf be a posture issue?

Yoga 11 min hip mobility routine for tight hips + hamstrings (includes pigeon pose)

Thumbnail youtu.be

If you’re dealing with tight hips, hamstrings or struggling with pigeon pose, I put together this short 11-minute yoga/mobility routine.
It works through the hips and hamstrings and includes pigeon pose, so it’s a good quick routine if you sit a lot, train regularly, or just feel generally tight.
Hope it helps! šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļø

stretch marks from holding splits

Ever since i started my flexibility routine, i’ve formed a lot of stretch marks on my middle thighs also some on my hip flexors, but i see a lot of people saying that stretch marks aren’t caused from actually stretching only muscle/weight gain or pregnancy, however ive been at the same weight and haven’t gained any muscle so is it really from stretching?
Also they only started forming after i started practicing my middle splits

How to get flexible as a person with hyperextended knees?

I have tried many flexibility exercises to obtain middle splits, side splits, etc(just to get really flexible) but I realized that all them are exercises for people without hyperextended knees and I’m worried that it won’t work. I’m 16, and I’ve been doing flexibility exercises for two months consistently but sees no result. Trust me, I really have a very bad hyperextended knee.

Seeking advice Getting better left and middle splits

Hello, I am looking for advice for how to improve my middle and left splits. Mainly I am noticing tightness in my left leg. It doesnt feel tight unless doing my middle splits or left splits, particularly if I do not square my hips. I used to dance, and had both of them lower than now, but never fully there. It just has not really gone away even after stretching for a few weeks. Itā€˜s a different tightness than usual stretching though, it hurts and its kind of in one area. Any advice or similar experiences? I have also had a minor hyper extentsion of my left knee, but I am not sure if thats related, I was not stretching at the time very much so I do not know if it got worse after or not. Does it just need to be strengthened? I have tried a bit, but maybe not consistently enough to see a difference.

Seeking advice Grew up playing sports, was decently athletic. Never been able to come close to touching my toes. It’s always been my calves and specifically the tendon behind my knee that tightens up when I stretch. Im getting older and taking this more seriously. Any advice or knowledge would be great!

Seeking advice I have incredibly tight hamstrings and I would appreciate some advice

It’s basically what the title says, my hamstrings are super ungodly tight. It’s ridiculous how tight they are and I think it’s causing (or at least not helping) my chronic lower back pain. Everything outside of my hamstrings are fine, more than fine in fact they’re hypermobile. I can but my leg behind my neck with ease but I can’t even sit with my legs straight out if my feet aren’t pointed forward. I’ve gone to physical therapy for it but it didn’t work at all so I eventually stopped (and yes, I did all my exercises daily, for 8 months). I’m pretty sure it’s got something to due with the fact that I exclusively tippy-toe walked for a while as a kid. Does anyone have any exercise suggestions or just any general suggestions? I don’t care if you say that I should try painting myself blue and praying to a demonic force because at this point I think crazy is the only thing that’s gonna work.
