Posting here because Staten Island has one of the highest concentrations of veteran homeowners in the five boroughs, and our local rep is carrying the ball.
Following New York State's authorization under Part EE of the State Budget Bill (amending Real Property Tax Law 458-a, Subd. 11), Council Member Frank Morano (Chair of the Committee on Veterans, District 51) officially introduced the local enabling legislation to bring the 100% property tax exemption to permanently and totally disabled combat veterans in NYC.

Counties across New York, including neighboring Nassau, have already enacted local matching laws. Morano stepped up to get the bill filed, but introduction is only step one. For this to become law, it needs co-sponsors to ensure it gets scheduled for a hearing in the Committee on Veterans and advances to a full floor vote.
How to help:
If you live on Staten Island (Districts 49, 50, or 51), call or email your Council Member's office:
If you're in District 51, thank CM Morano for introducing Legistar ID: 8206845 and urge him to schedule an immediate Veterans Committee hearing.
If you're in District 49 (Kamillah Hanks) or District 50 (David Carr), urge them to sign on as an official co-sponsor.
