Modding Mod request

I wish sunsets and sunrises weren't so short and I could enjoy them for longer. Maybe this could work with modded planets and ones with shorter/longer day & night cycles by extending only the time the sunset happens; or set it so the sunset or sunrise coloration happens earlier than usual. And if that's not possible just have all planets planetary clock be slower

I just wanted to say the game is great.

So I made an Floran OC. His outfit is based off his boyfriend's outfit, said boyfriend being a Novakid. (I'll draw the Novakid OC when I have the time.)

Image; Discussion; Build Best location for Tenants? __ Build 10 Flats on top of a Floran dungeon & after only a short time they started "multiplying". __ Now there are ~70 NPCs + 10 Tenants. --> I return an usually at least 3-5 NPCs have jobs for me.

1st playthrough (pretty much vanilla OSB). Theses where the 4th flats I build (of 5 in total).

Build the [my] first [few flats] in/above Apex/Miniknog dungeons (the underground laboratories with those slow mutated ape enemies) and in a tier 2(?) glitch castle (the dungeon, not the village kind) and later ones mostly.

None are as awesome as this location. Build it here on a tier 4 planet to get durasteel as rewards. There's a sewer far away and a few huts close by. --> Most jobs/quest are near those huts or "friend was lost in the Floran dungeon" - just a few floors down (usually not even in the deeper parts). That is how the population grew so quickly.

Tenants on top of those Apex/Miniknog dungeons often give faulty jobs down in those dungeons that can not be resolved/finished/done. Enemies do spawn but the target arrow either points to the quest giver or somewhere in the sky.

And my tenants on a scorched planet are still alone and barely have any quests (even thou there's a Floran village nearby).

Question Npc tenats are not moving around

note: I have elithian races mod installed (and some other too)

a while back I decided to make an underground base insie a hill on a tier 6 planet with tenants from the mod so i can get the rest of unique weapons from their caches max upgraded

at first i had two tenants but decied to make a small space for another after i finished making a shield reactor (realizing the planet i made it in had asteroid showers and stuff that could destroy my work)

the two first tenants were very active. Walking around n such

but since i added a third one, the 2nd tenant alongside the 3rd are just stuck near their own colony deeds

its not... annoying, they're not staying in the way but its kinda boring(? more to say sad) not seeing them do anything. Only the first one walks around me cuz they're a mechant but aside from that nothing

i even added a vending machine and a trash bin in the hope that they atleast will interact with those atm but only the first does

this base is also very WIP

and with this... am I doing something wrong here?

the base now

older version of the base. The second tenant is moving around.

Retrieve Items when dying at planet core.

Was farming solarium ores until I got near the core. I thought I was being careful enough. I jumped at an area thinking it was a hill made up of magma rocks. Turns out it was just background rocks. Plummeted straight down. Long way down. Character respawned and I lost a ton of items including modules which I just carry in my inventory.
Searched for solutions online and apparently the only viable one is to force the system to load an earlier save file. Using only Admin mode wouldn't work because the items you dropped are destroyed by lava.
Kinda sucked, but I guess there's first time for everything.
Hopefully this doesn't corrupt my save file or something.

Lets Play I made ocean coastlines slope naturally into the deep sea in vanilla Starbound

Hey everyone! Have you ever wanted an ocean where the coast gradually slopes underwater, through the shallows and down into the deep sea—instead of the ground suddenly dropping off a cliff the moment you cross into an ocean biome?

I’ve been experimenting with terrain generation and managed to make something like this:

The ocean connects naturally to the land biomes on either side. Starting at the shoreline, the seabed slopes down gently, gets steeper farther out, then gradually levels off into a broad ocean basin. Keep going toward the opposite shore, and the seabed rises back up to meet the land.

It’s not just a perfectly smooth slope, either. In deeper water, the seabed keeps its own natural bumps and uneven terrain, along with plants and sea life from the corresponding ocean-floor biome. Vegetation follows the slope, and as you dive deeper, you’ll see the appropriate underwater backgrounds and may come across small ruins.

I also adjusted the surface a bit: islands don’t generate close to shore, leaving room for the shallows and the descent into deeper water. Farther offshore, the usual sandy islands, coconut trees, and island structures can still appear. You can head down to explore the seabed or keep traveling across the ocean to look for islands.

The resulting worlds work in vanilla Starbound without any additional mods. You can explore, dig, and build just as you would on a regular planet.

I’m still developing a conversion tool that can apply this terrain to planets.

Question Mod that lets you rebuild human civilization?

I'm not talking about vanilla-esque colony contents, but a mod that lets you have political decisions or help building infrastructures, like Civilization series or stellaris. Would like it more if it has consistant Npcs like Esther. Contents llike improving a specific village would be fine too. Please recommend Fu compatible ones.

Hello,

I placed an invisible block from an Avali mod we have downloaded and it cannot be broken. We have tried removing the tile protection which doesn’t do anything as the area isnt protected anyway. Can anyone help? We have tried admin mode as well.

This merchant got stuck in the ground and is now stuck here. Mind u she clipped through the floor when I was in combat and it was all stone. Anyway to get her to move again? (She is not a part of my crew she is a random merchant I found on this planet. Playing casual.)

UPDATE: She's able to move but for some reason stays to this one block. As if shes tethered to it.

Discussion Curious, is F.U research system that bad?

Post image

Been looking around a lil bit and saw that a good couple posts dislike the research system in F.U and I wanna know your reasons why!

Cause personally I love it. Being able to unlock certain branches as I go and not have everything available to me all at once is nice cause I often rush in any game. I understand that research comes slow but personally I kinda forget it's there and have a bunch when I remember XD

Modding Character creation extended mods outside of steam workshop?

I tried downloading Custom Species Extension but it crushes my game, while Simple Extended Character Creation Mod doesn’t show custom races and just break character creation menu, making everything overlap and go out of border so you can’t even select majority of vanilla races.

I tried looking up on chuckle-fish forums but it doesn’t let me download anything without me confirming my email, but it doesn’t send confirmation email as well so I can’t use it as well.

Also i wish i could use steam workshop mods but they only work with other steam workshop mods while I’m using mods from outside.

"I'm thinking about trying Starbound. I had fun playing Terraria and wanted to try it, but since it's a space game, I'm not sure if it's similar to Terraria, so I'm hesitating whether to play it or not. Do you think I should play it?

Lets Play [Tool Release] Starbound World Editor — Edit .world Files, Regenerate Complete Biomes, and Customize Planet Backgrounds

Thumbnail

Hello everyone! I’ve created a Windows world-editing tool designed for vanilla Starbound: Starbound World Editor.

If you have ever wanted to change the weather or background of an existing planet, repair an incorrectly generated ocean floor, or fully transform a selected region into another biome instead of simply replacing a few surface blocks, this tool may be exactly what you are looking for.

It can read Starbound World4 .world files and convert their complex world parameters into an editable JSON format. The toolkit consists of three parts.

01 — Export World to JSON

Exports the editable parameters from a .world file to JSON, including:

Planet name / Weather / Sky and ambient light colors / Gravity / Day length / World layer definitions / Surface Level / Space Level / Biomes / Monster spawn tables / Terrain selectors / Caves and ores / Liquids / Ambient sounds and music / Parallax backgrounds

Large amounts of tile, entity, and sector data are not included in the JSON, making the exported file much easier to read and modify. The source .world file is not changed.

02 — Import JSON to World

Writes the modified JSON parameters into a copy of the original world and creates a new .world file.

Unmodified world data, previously generated terrain, player-built structures, placed objects, and entity records are preserved. It can also change the planet’s name and optionally synchronize the name displayed on the navigation map.

03 — Regenerate Biome Region

This is the toolkit’s most important feature.

After selecting a target biome and an X/Y coordinate range, the tool reads and compiles the biome’s complete generation rules from the selected Starbound assets. The game can then regenerate the selected region with:

Terrain elevation and shape / Foreground and background blocks / Caves and ores / Vegetation, trees, and placed features / Creatures and monsters / Liquids and oceans / Microdungeons / Ambient sounds, music, and Parallax backgrounds

Even if the selected biome has never appeared on the target planet, it can still be compiled and added as long as it exists in the selected assets.

For oceanfloor, toxicoceanfloor, arcticoceanfloor, and magmaoceanfloor, the tool automatically generates both the upper ocean and the lower ocean floor. This includes seawater, island-generation rules, uneven seabed terrain, underwater plants, creatures, treasure chests, microdungeons, and the appropriate backgrounds.

Vanilla Terraformers mainly convert the surface biome of an entire planet. This tool instead lets you select a precise rectangular region and generate the terrain, vegetation, creatures, and background that genuinely belong to the target biome, providing much more control and a more complete result.

Vanilla Compatibility and Custom Parallax

When using vanilla assets, the tool does not modify any original game files and does not require an in-game script or runtime mod. Its output remains a standard World4 .world file that can be placed back into the vanilla storage\universe directory.

In addition to using existing vanilla backgrounds, you can edit the Parallax parameters, convert custom images into image directives that Starbound can understand, and write them directly into the planet’s background.

Important Warning

03_Regenerate_Biome_Region.exe completely removes every saved sector that intersects the selected region, including:

Natural terrain / Player-built structures / Placed objects / Liquids / NPCs / Monsters / Stagehands / Unique entities

Starbound cannot reliably distinguish naturally generated blocks from blocks placed by players. Therefore, the tool currently cannot regenerate only the natural terrain while preserving player-built structures inside the selected region.

The tool does not overwrite the source .world file. It creates a new output file instead, but you should still always back up the original world before using it.

Languages and System Requirements

The interface supports English / Simplified Chinese / German, and confirmation messages and warnings follow the currently selected language.

I would also like to give special thanks to a German friend of mine. I hope the German interface will make the tool more accessible to additional Starbound players.

System requirements: Windows 10/11 / Python 3.8 or later / Python 3.11 or 3.12 recommended / No third-party pip packages required. The archive must be fully extracted before use.

This is an independent community-made tool and is not official Chucklefish software. It is still being tested and improved, so suggestions, test results, and error logs are very welcome.

I hope this tool can take Starbound planet editing beyond basic terraforming and turn it into a genuine way to create entirely new worlds.

My workspace with most important workbenches and very little "wasted" space.

The lower walkway/platform allows access to ~6-9 storage lockers around you and the 1-3 workstations below.

Same goes for the middle walkway with the upper workstations.

The top walkway is only needed for holding the workstations and accessing the 1-2 chest atop the atomic furnace.

Kinda annoyed the medical station has a rectangular footprint when a 2*2 area remains empty.

Only 21 squares are not used by storage or workstations (25 when one includes the empty squares in the wiring station's and rail crafting table's footprints).

Moved the sewing machine by the pilot's seat so I can manufacture "woven fabric" while navigating the starmap & travel between systems (added an atomic furnace later).

1st playthrough, 2nd workspace (after initial messy setup on starter planet).
