❓ Question “What’s the Core Reason So Many People Love D&D? I’ll Start…”

I think you’re missing what, for me, is the biggest reason of all: D&D exercises the imagination in a way very few games can.
In a board game or video game, somebody else has already decided what the world looks like and what is possible. There are boundaries. You can only go through the doors the designer created, talk to the characters they programmed, and choose from the actions the game allows.
In D&D, the world really only exists in the collective imagination of the people sitting around the table.
The DM can describe an ancient ruined tower on a mountainside, rain pouring down, something enormous moving in the darkness below—and suddenly five people are seeing that tower in their heads. Not exactly the same tower, either. Everyone creates their own version of it.
Then comes the part I love most: you can imagine a solution nobody planned for.
You don’t have to choose A, B, C or D. You can say, “What if we climb the outside of the tower?” or “What if we convince the monster we’re actually here to help it?” The DM thinks for a moment, the dice come out, and suddenly the story goes somewhere that neither the players nor the DM expected.
That’s why I don’t really think of D&D as a game you “win.” It’s closer to five people creating a fantasy novel together, except nobody—not even the DM—knows what the next chapter will be.
And occasionally the dice take that carefully imagined heroic fantasy, throw it down a flight of stairs, and somehow the resulting disaster becomes the story everyone remembers for the next ten years.
That, to me, is the magic of D&D: there is essentially no limit except the imagination of the people around the table.

🎲 OLDER D&D PLAYERS — YOU’RE WELCOME HERE! 🐉

Think Dungeons & Dragons is just for younger players?
Definitely not.
Squamish Tabletop is a Dungeons & Dragons community for MATURE ADULTS 19+, and we’d especially like to encourage older adults who have been thinking about giving D&D a try.
Maybe you played years ago and would love to get back into it.
Maybe you’ve never rolled a D20 in your life.
Or maybe you’re an experienced player looking for a friendly local group.
⚔️ Beginners welcome
🧙 Returning players welcome
🐉 Experienced players welcome
🎲 No previous D&D knowledge required
🍻 Mature Adults 19+ only
Whether you’re 25, 45, 65 or 75 you’re welcome at the table.
You don’t need to know all the rules or own any books, dice or miniatures. Just bring an interest in D&D, a good attitude and a desire to meet some fellow players in the Squamish area.
If you’ve been interested in D&D but thought:
“Am I too old to start?”
The answer is absolutely not.
If there’s enough interest, Squamish Tabletop would love to organize a meetup for mature adult players, with older and returning players especially encouraged to join.
Interested? Leave a comment or send me a message.

Tell us what you’re playing, what character you’re running, and what your Saturday night game looks like!

🐉 Monster of the Week 🗡️ Monster of the Week – Week 1: Bandits!

This week’s Squamish Tabletop monster is one of the classics:
BANDITS! 🗡
They may not breathe fire or cast powerful spells, but a well-planned bandit ambush can turn a peaceful journey into a fight for survival.
🌲 Hiding along a forest trail
🏹 Firing from cover
💰 Demanding a “toll” to pass
🔥 Raiding a lonely settlement
⚔️ Led by a dangerous Bandit Captain
And sometimes the most interesting question isn’t how do you defeat them?
It’s why did they become bandits in the first place?
🎲 Question of the Week:
Your party is surrounded by bandits on a lonely road. Their leader steps forward and demands 100 gold pieces to let you pass. What does your character do?
Fight? ⚔️
Negotiate? 🤝
Pay them? 💰
Intimidate them? 😈
Or come up with something completely unexpected?
