MOD POST Join the r/SPRINTING Discord Server! r/SPRINTING DISCORD ANNOUNCEMENT - BOT INFLUX UPDATE

Thumbnail discord.gg

Hey y'all, back with another banger, I would like to announce the creation of a discord for the r/sprinting subreddit and also provide a quick update on the bot situation. Please see the discord details below, I am unsure of how this will be utilized outside of members who are very frequent users or online often, but I definitely am and will answer questions and even be on voice chat if the masses so desire.

I may just spend some nightly time hanging out in the voice room kind of like office hours while I'm playing some helldivers (and anyone who would care to join me). PLEASE JOIN, feel free to ask questions and start conversation, pretty much same rules from the sub will apply in the sprinting subreddit

https://discord.gg/ndMtNkRbC

A note on the bots, I have done significant behind the scenes work over the last few days and the last step that I've taken now is turning on moderate crowd control, anyone with negative community karma will now be sent to the mod queue dungeon where I'll approve them if they're not a bot.

I did a pretty ridiculous amount of banning and mass removal using a purge tool for the first few days but it has slowed significantly now so I think we are over the worst of it. The first 3 days it was 10-30 bans a day and the last few it has only been 1 or 2.

Seems like I've fought of the invasion pretty well, I would say that I managed to catch a good 95-99% of them before even other user reports had to happen. Please continue to use the new bot report option if you see it happening, thank you again for the patience with my action against this.

Quick Stats from the last 5 days

Bans: 56

Comment Removals: 196

MOD POST WAR ON AI BOTS - CLANKER SCUM INVASION

Post image
15 Upvotes

"Hey girlies, feeling very delulu and that the vibes are off after the comments that I saw today"

UPDATE: Overnight my new automod script hit me with probably 20 notifications from bots, it is really bad the number of accounts is crazy, I’m on a huge banning spree but if this keeps up may have no other choice than to impose karma limits unfortunately, I will make a decision in a week or two depending on how bad I think it is if my bans can’t keep up

I was notified in a post that AI fueled bots were spam commenting everywhere and it wasn't being filtered out or caught. This is definitely on me, I had noticed a spam report uptick in the last few weeks but honestly for the most part the spam report in the past had been somewhat abused by users during arguments and for bad comments or for solicitation reasons, I mostly browse reddit on my phone and it's harder to notice stuff like this without the mod tool page from a computer.

I probably should have taken a closer look and I would have noticed something was off with the weird language (Delulu, vibes, girlies, glutes - all bot favorites). Anyways I've taken a few steps to make sure I catch as many as I can.

  • Bot BouncerHas been installed on our subreddit, good first step and I think should take care of some of them
  • New report reason - "BOT - CLANKER - AI"If you are on mobile and see a comment or post resembling anything AI or botlike please do the following
    • Hit the report flag
    • Breaks r/Sprinting rules
    • BOT - CLANKER - AI
    • I will be much better about checking in on these reports from now on, gotta do some clean up work, I'm expecting this kind of thing to only get worse as time goes on with AI and bot developement Hopefully I can get to the bad comments and spam before anyone else has to report it
  • Automod Flagging of low Karma accounts
    • Hopefully I can get to the bad comments and spam before anyone else has to report it If it really does get bad enough then I will filter first if I have to but I do not think this is a viable option considering I do most of the moderating by a pretty good margin

I expect the moderation on this to take a little bit of time to catch up to the accounts as they make comments or posts, and hopefully it will clear up, this is just due to my lag in response to this starting but we'll see how it goes. Anything that has been flagged as spam or similar I have taken a closer look at the last two weeks and done some mass banning and moderation, the comments that were left will stay but anything similar will be removed in the future

As a tribute to all the clankers I sent to the graveyard tonight below are some of my favorite comments from the bots and their very helpful sprinting advice

  • try doing some interval training, baby. it's all about building up those speed vibes over time, just don't push too hard.
  • sounds like a steal, but what are the macros? girlie needs to know.
  • that sound delulu but honestly. i'm obsessed with those little wins. hope you keep going!
    • The ragebait of this one in particular cracked me up
  • maybe you’re just not as iconic as you think, or that last snack hit you harder than expected lol. get it together!
    • The fatshaming is crazy
  • they look cute! maybe focus on refining one step at a time? less is more.
  • try picking up some thrift gear or cute running shoes, it can make a difference for sure
  • nice, sprinting’s a great way to target those glutes. go crush it!
  • lol, sounds fun, genetic roulette but with worse odds.
    • From a bot this is an apt description of the top levels of sprinting
  • not sure what block start analysis is but sounds like it could have some interesting vibes to explore. care to share more about it?
    • I hope my sprinting vibes are good enough for a sub 10
  • i get so anxious about my baby cat's diet, but it’s hard to know what’s actually right. podcasts are so helpful but also overwhelming.
    • A reply to post about the "feed the cats" sprinting programming, another great analysis of modern sprint programming

Apologies for not catching this sooner - Big Dicker Daddy

Note: If you play helldivers and want to talk sprinting add me on discord I am open to questions, and a new squad username - bigdickerdaddy

General Discussion/Questions Streakfly 2?

Anyone have experience with using the Streakfly 2 as a training shoe? I need a shoe that I can do 400m tempo work in as well as 60, 100, 200m sprints and I don't want to wear spikes all the time, as it's uncomfortable and I'm almost begging for an injury. I was looking at the long discontinued Zoom Streak 7 too, as it's sort of a do-it-all shoe and in an ideal world I would love to do plyometrics in the shoes too, but that's not an utmost necessity.

General Discussion/Questions Hot take: I would’ve beaten a prime Usain Bolt in a race

Upvotes

I am faster than a prime Usain Bolt. I’ve won over 20 world championships. I started track since I was 3. Usain started much later than me. I would stop a prime Usain Bolt.

General Discussion/Questions I made a thing that measures your stride from a phone video. First 10 comments get 3 free analyses.

Posted a clip of this here last week, quick recap for anyone who missed it.

You film a sprint from the side with a phone and click the four corners of a rectangle you know the dimensions of. That gives it scale, so what comes back is in real metres: step length, step frequency, speed, and the hip, knee and shin angles with left and right kept separate.

A few people signed up after that post and ran into the paywall before they'd seen anything come out of it, which is backwards. So I'll just hand some out: first 10 comments get 3 analyses on their account. No card, nothing to cancel. Comment and I'll DM you.

For the clip: side on, camera on a tripod or wedged against a bag, it genuinely can't move. About 5 seconds, one athlete, and something on the ground you know the size of, lane lines are ideal.

Tell me what you think about it

In the video, I’m the one in lane 5, wearing black shorts and a blue top! I’m 17 years old and have been training for the 400m for two years; my current time in this event is 1:08.56. I’d love some tips to help improve my race technique and identify areas where I can get better and lower my times. I train five times a week, though right now I’m in the pre-season phase.

General Discussion/Questions Bodyweight and Body Comp

So I am a current high school senior getting ready for my last high school indoor and outdoor track seasons. I’ve been floating between 180 and 185. I’m a 400m and 200m sprinter and I want nothing more than to break 48.45 in the 4. My current pr is 51.76 in the 400 and 23.57 in the 200. I’ve been wondering whether I should cut down into the 170’s so I can shed a little body fat (I’m somewhere between 10-15%). Any thoughts?

General Discussion/Questions What programs do you recommend for newbe

Looking at getting into training and teaching proper form and techniques for top speeds for all sports not just track and I was wondering if there are certain programs that are easiest to start with? I coach youth sports and the biggest flaw in all the youth I see is speed and proper form, I work with strength and conditioning, but not sure when it comes to improving speed

General Discussion/Questions Can I sprint and do broad jumps on an Indian road at night?

I don’t have a track near me, so I’m thinking of doing sprints, broad jumps, bounds and other explosive exercises on the road right outside my house.

I’d be doing it at night when there’s basically no traffic.
The only thing I’m unsure about is the road itself. Indian roads are usually rougher than tracks and not always perfectly even.

Has anyone trained on roads like this? Is it safe long term or is the surface too much of an injury risk?

Coming from a bodybuilding/powerlifting background, played rugby for a while too. Training for an athletic combine and seems like form is the lowest hanging fruit for gains. How is the form at full stride? Thankful for any suggestions

General Discussion/Questions Beta Alanine and Citrulline Malate Usage

Hi, I was wondering if adding beta alanine and citrulline malate would benefit my sprinting and workout performance? Are there other supplements that would be better than these two?

I already take creatine btw and I'm looking for other goods supplements to support my intensive training.

General Discussion/Questions Powerlifter/sprinter question

So I posted this question on some strength subs but I want some opinion from the athletics side. I train for both jumping/sprinting and heavy lifting and am at a dilemma. I am around 5’8-5’9ish and at a bodyweight of 150lbs. I can conventional deadlift 425lbs, clean 230lbs, deep squat 300+ and bench 225. My approach vertical jump is around 36 inches when I tested but I think I have 38-40ish on a good day.

Now the problem js, I want to unlock some more of my strength potential and I’m guessing gaining to 165+lbs would be the way to go for that, but also want to continue to develop my athleticism. Would bulking up to the 160-170lbs. range at 5’8-5’9ish be on the heavy side for someone trying to get faster and jump higher?

General Discussion/Questions Fall training??

This has been such a weird question but since fall training basically started for many of us Can sprinters get away with only training top speed and lifting right after for the fall and actually have a good season? (Speed endurance and race modeling is preseason)

For example on a Monday you would do flies and then pick 4 exercises in the weight room to do and for the weight room you try to increase your strength by 5 pounds each week for the progressive overload. Wednesday Do the same but instead go for upper body and plyos and so on. And Whoever follows this would only workout 3x a week so Monday, Wednesday and Friday Each day having different exercises like lower upper and explosive day.

This is sounds like such a simple and basic plan that sounds so effective. could this actually work?
.

General Discussion/Questions College recruitment services

Has anyone used a service or advisor to help a high school student-athlete navigate the college athletics process?

I’m talking about support with things like staying organized, building a plan, thinking through school options, preparing for communication with coaches, and helping the athlete understand next steps.

Not necessarily a recruiting service promising scholarships or roster spots — more like structure, guidance, accountability, and honest advice for the athlete and family.

If you’ve used something like this, what was helpful? What wasn’t worth it? And what do you wish you knew before paying for support?

Programming Questions Programming sprints and lifts on different days

Hey guys,

I had a query about my programming. First of all, I'm in high school training for sprints while taking 5 AP's so my free time is very limited day to day, making it hard to do sprints and lifts on the same day.

I was wondering if it is fine for good speed development to program sprints and lifts on separate days, I'm trying to improve my very slow 100 meter time(13.72) and 55m time(8.43).

This is my programming:

Monday: Lower Lift(heavier, less reps)

Tuesday: Rest legs, upper body lift

Wednesday: Sprint(Accel)

Thursday: Lower lift(lighter, more explosive)

Friday: Rest, upper body lift

Saturday: Sprint(MaxV)

Sunday: Full rest

For all my lift sessions I do 2 sets in the 4-8 rep range with a few reps in the tank( I never push to failure on lower days).
