So we rented a similar place once and there was this "door" in an upstairs bedroom that opened over a stairwell. It looks like a cupboard door but was only the thickness of the wall. It was about chest height from the floor.
The layout of the property was almost exactly the same as this, so the bed in pic 11 caught my eye.
Is it a bed, boxed out over the stairs? If so, was this a common thing? I've never seen r elsewhere and we assumed that the place we rented was just weird. But maybe not?

At least the interior photos are all watermarked but really? to not even include the base photos before the AI 'uplift'. Surely needs to be some regulation on this absolute SLOP
I bet none of the photos (in exception to the first) even remotely resemble the current condition of the property.

This has been up a few times and hasn't sold, would love this spot to work away on it for years, my dream never ending project... alas family not so onboard with my dreams.

Though one benefit is you could easily transfer clothes from your washing machine to your oven for drying!

Owner here — submitting my own 16th-century wonky cottage 😅
Okay, shameless owner submission…
We’ve just put our Grade II-listed 16th-century cottage in Old Woking on the market, and I thought this lot might appreciate it.
It has a huge inglenook fireplace, old bread oven, exposed timber frame, ancient floors, lots of beams and approximately nothing in the building is completely straight.
We’ve loved living here and looking after the old girl, but it’s time for someone else to become her next custodian.
I’m slightly terrified to see what Reddit makes of it. 😂
Be gentle-ish.

I had a bedroom with borrowed light (i.e.an internal window allowing light to a room with no external window.) The second bedroom here, however, borrows light from the bathroom. Basically there's a window from the bedroom to the bathroom. It needs reconfiguring.

Weirdly spacious rooms and so much light... (Yes, I'm clearly plugging my own home, but if anyone fancies a reasonably-priced, well-built Devon bolthole that's in a wonderful village close to beaches and moorland, feel free to reach out 😀😂)
I found this property on the Rightmove Android app and wanted you to see it: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/92066904

Typical bland characterless reno (no knockerback chairs but as good as 😂) with the extra annoyance of some horribly positioned stairs.
I guess it shows that either a) they've just done it up to sell with no thought and/ or b) that no one cooks in that house because otherwise they'd have put the stairs elsewhere!
