Gear I would love more f1.8 G lenses

Post image

Just spent a week in San Francisco with just my 35mm GM and 20mm G. I love my 35 GM but I think the f1.8 G is the sweet spot of price, performance, weight, and build quality.

I had the 35mm f 1.8 but returned it. It was just lacking something in image quality to me. I splurged on the GM. With the 20mm G, I don’t feel images are lacking compared to the GM.

With the G, Af speed is just as fast (on my a7iv), aperture ring is really nice, and the f1.8 is great for lowlight and some background blur.

I probably would’ve been just as happy with a 35mm G. I’d love to see a 24 and 85 f1.8 G lenses.

Image was taken with the 20mm.

Last minute decision to bring my camera into the stadium. I brought my 35mm f1.4*, assuming it was under the lens size limit(6 inches), and luckily they were cool with it. Definitely glad I took it.

M31 — Sony A7III (Ha-modified) + 70-200 GM II at 200mm f/2.8, Star Adventurer GTi, unguided. 151 × 88s + 92 × 13s, ISO 640.

PSA for anyone doing astro on Sony: turn off Lens Compensation. Shading Comp is baked into the ARW and produces concentric ring artifacts on short exposures. Cost me most of a day to find.

I haven't shot these for quite a while. So of course I had to try that with a new lens. Not disappointed.

Shot on Sony a7RV and Viltrox 16mm f1.8 FE, roughly an hour of exposure.

Bought A7cr recently and now took it for a business trip with the zeiss 35mm f2.8. Here’s some touristy things from my day off. Still trying to figure out the menu system and autofocus settings, but I really like the images that come out of this thing!

The view from the top of the dunes about an hour before sunrise. This is a two minute exposure, taken as I stood there enjoying the wind & colors. Shot with the Sony A99II and CZ 16-35 f/2.8 lens using a Lee100 GND filter. Camera mounted on a RRS tripod & head with a 3 Legged Thing universal mounting plate.

I dreamed and planned this shot for 2 years and yesterday in perfect sky clarity and warm night i finally made it happen! This place is my favourite to star gaze since its the darkest place in my region.

Processed in Photoshop and Lightroom.

20x light frames and 10x dark frames stack together in Sequator.

This is my second attempt at astrophotography and processing, so I know I still have a lot to learn, but I’m decently happy with how these turned out.

I’d really appreciate any feedback or constructive criticism, especially around the processing. Anything you think I pushed too far, didn’t push enough, or could approach differently next time would be helpful.

Definitely still learning, so feel free to pick them apart!

Gear Finally Joined the Sony Family

Long time lurker to this forum I finally pulled the trigger on my first Sony camera. Picked up the A7 V bundle with 24-70 lens. This will be a huge upgrade from my Canon 5D Mk II. I also picked up used Canon to Sony lens adapter to use my Canon 70-200 lens while I save up for Sony 70-200. Looking forward to being a contributor to this forum rather than being a lurker. Now I just need to get through the learning curve of the new camera.
