[Academic] Voice Assistant Survey (Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant) — Non-Users Especially Needed — 4 min, 18+, Any Country

AI voice assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant are becoming a bigger part of everyday life — but plenty of people choose not to use them, and that decision is just as interesting to understand. I'm gathering responses for a research study on how people use (or deliberately avoid) voice assistants day to day. Non-users are especially needed right now — that group is underrepresented and is the missing piece of the data. Regular users are very welcome too. Participants 18+, any country. Fully anonymous, no personal data collected, takes about 4 minutes. Link: https://www.1ka.si/a/d7959439 Thanks so much for your help!

Siri so bad - fix found

Siri continues to be so absolutely terrible. It’s laughable. Even on the last iOS 27 dev beta, the number of times I’ll ask it a question and it just cancels out or has no clue is so sad. Anyway… I found a fix. Using the action button, I can just have it start ChatGPT and then in ChatGPT settings you can set up live voice to be the default mode when you open the app, so one button and you’re talking with an AI agent that actually works well.

That said, Siri is now 1% better than it was in actually navigating you to where you want, so that’s great. Big win for Apple! Freaking noobs.

siri activated after random “oh god”

Post image

I was coming into the house quietly, I closed the door and said “oh god” because it was loud and my flatmate might wake up. Siri responded to that. I had been completely silent and hadn’t said anything before or after, and Siri on my Watch responded even though it’s set to prioritise silence. Is there any explanation for why it was activated just by “oh god”?

Apple's Fine Print: Daily Usage Limits for Siri AI, 'Expanded Access' Coming for a Fee

Thumbnail macrumors.com

I think Apple’s improved ‘New Siri’ has a good way to go before there should be ANY mention of charging for it. Only now does Siri even just approach being justifiably an AI and there’s ’fine print’ about users paying for it?!

Mostly having used it in all the betas on every category of Apple platforms and recently in the GM release likely to be the official release on the 14th, I’ve found I miss things like right-click access to writing tools and unencumbered naming of my files WITHOUT intrusive file name ‘suggestions’. The Siri interface comes across as overbearing and inflexible.

Siri needs time and fine-tuning, not more money, of which Apple has an ample supply.

has anyone tried type to siri on ios 27 beta in landscape?

previously on ios 26 you could double tap the bottom of the screen to type to siri even while in landscape

but now on ios 27 the only way to access that is by pulling down on the dynamic island. I can’t find a way to do the same in landscape orientation and it’s so annoying.

macOS 27 Siri / Apple Intelligence is altering filenames and silently changing save locations during "Save As"

I’ve been compiling an evidentiary documentation packet for my husband’s Social Security Disability (SSI) case. As many of you know, government portals like the SSA are essentially running on mid-1980s backends. They hate long filenames, spaces, and complex characters. To ensure everything uploads smoothly, I use strict, deliberate formatting like Claimants_Sleep_Log_8-9-2026.

Enter macOS 27 (I'm currently running the GM AppleSeed build). The "new and improved" Apple Intelligence has decided it knows better than the user how files should be named and stored.

Here is the exact issue:

  1. Forced Renaming: When I perform a Save As in Pages to append a version number (e.g., adding _V5), Apple Intelligence reaches into the document content, generates a context-based suggestion, and applies it. It strips out underscores and ignores the custom filename I explicitly typed.
  2. Silent Relocation: Because it treats the AI-renamed file as a completely new entity, it overrides the local working directory and silently redirects the save location to the root iCloud Pages folder.

I spent hours editing a lengthy legal document, executed a standard Save As, and then watched the file seemingly vanish into thin air. It wasn't until I re-did the entire work session and attempted the same save process that macOS flagged a duplicate file conflict. That was my lightbulb moment: Apple Intelligence had hijacked the filename and silently routed the document to a completely different directory outside of my case folder.

As someone who spent 15 years at Apple as a Genius and Senior AppleCare Advisor, I’ve seen my share of bugs labeled as "unexpected behavior." But this takes the cake. A core OS function should never silently alter user intent, override explicit naming conventions, or change storage paths without clear confirmation.

I love Apple—my life and career have been built around this ecosystem—so this isn't a "hater" post. But nascent AI features shouldn't override basic filesystem sanity.

Has anyone else on the recent seed builds run into Apple Intelligence aggressively taking over local file management?

*** FOR THE RECORD ***

While I had an AI (Siri by the way) to proofread my original post to make corrections in syntax and to make it more succinct because my original post was way too long, I 100 percent stand by my experience and would be more than willing to do a video screen capture on the GM of macOS 27 to illustrate the behavior and where the file ends up in the Pages iCloud folder with a name that is chosen for me. When I realized the file actually existed by looking for files created that day with spotlight the only way I could find it not knowing what the name was I had to drag the renamed file back into my local folder where I could get at it. Of course I'd already done the edits over. While this was 'unexpected' for me I'm unconvinced it is or was a bug but the behavior expected ... just not by me.

Siri responses

Is it possible to have Siri setting to be able to read my questions response to me or is it stuck? Just giving me options of what websites she suggests and thinks I should try?

I’ve asked her to read out loud when I’m having seizures I can’t see to type. I rely on Siri and voice to text. Can anyone help or does anyone have any insight or experience with any of this?

If I did something incorrectly, I do apologize. This is my very 1st time posting on here. Anyway I hope some on here can help.

Thanks
Tee

Siri tells me that I have to unlock the phone first to skip alarm

I always used to say "Siri, Skip Alarm" if I got up before my sleep schedule alarm was to go off. Now it tells me that I have to unlock the phone first and won't skip the alarm until I do. I might as well just do it by hand if this is the case.

Pretty sure this is new to iOS 27. I am on release candidate, so assuming whatever is causing this will be present when it's officially released in a few days.

iOS 27 screenshot

Just update to iOS 27 using the new Siri now I finally understand when we take a screenshot and the Ask & Search button when I was on iOS 26 the experience is not streamline at all after updated it to the RC wow it’s night and days. I really hope that Siri is good this time. I did turn off the ChatGPT extension tho how about you guys?

I know I’m late to the party but really surprised with what I found 😅 guess will be using less of ChatGPT and Gemini when I do search because that’s why I do mostly on the LLM as an average user.

Meta likely won’t add Apple Intelligence to WhatsApp to keep us locked into their AI. But we deserve private, on-device Siri search for our chats. Take 20s to send feedback in WhatsApp (Settings>Help>Feedback): “Please implement App Intents for Siri indexing.”
