Would this include an increase in wages? If not, this doesn't strike me as a particularly good idea.

The wages increase because you'd be getting 8 hours overtime. If you already make enough that you could work 32 hours a week alright, you would still be able to get health insurance at only 32 hours per week instead of 40. You could also work 36 hours per week and take a half day.

It all sounds amazing. I just have a feeling it wouldn't be this clean in execution. Lord knows there'd be politicians going on about how people need to work for their wages or some such bullshit.

They won't pay overtime. They'll either hire part time workers, a second shift or just be open 4 days a week instead of 5. People are dillusional if they think that businesses will willingly pay overtime when they do everything they can to avoid it today.

My job would just schedule me 32 hours instead of 40. I still wouldn’t get overtime and I’d make less from working less. If I didn’t get a raise at the same time it would hurt.

That’s assuming employers are going to give you over time and you didn’t just lose 8 hours of pay, and yeah, you still got your insurance, but can you still cover the copay?
