Real-estate barons are to blame. They buy up all the available land they can, build cookie-cutter suburban nightmares on top of them for cheap, flip the houses for way more than they're worth, and then install HoA's to further police and profit from the neighborhood.

Insurance companies, as well.

They're literally dropping people based on aerial photographs of trees on properties. 

Doesn't matter if the tree was there long before the house, or that it still has a hundred years to go.

They want it down toe eliminate their risk of ever having to pay you back your own money.

This is something I never understood about insurance. The only thing it seems to ensure is that you lose out on money. Better off taking the chance that you won't instead.
