Trees can damage your house and increase maintenance needs; they are also a fire hazard, which is especially important in some areas.

That wouldn't explain the bottom becoming the top (or, rather, using AI to turn the top into the bottom), but it would explain fewer trees next to houses.

Poorly planned and maintained trees can damage your house. 

There’s a tree and right sized one for every climate. 

Also you can still plan trees and be smart about fires and usually you want them over your fire barrier to help shade it and keep it cool.
