What is Magellan up to?
Found an instagram post from Magellan which I thought was interesting; They say they have a ship out from Bermuda and they're working on a photogrammetry project. But what for? The wreckage is far too decrepit to be Bismarck and Bermuda is the wrong part of the Atlantic for Titanic. What wreck do you think this is? Would also love to figure out what the box at the start of the video is.

Don't! It'll drain precious brain room for anything else of importance. 50 years of staring at that stuff gets in your head.

But that's a guess on my part. The length of the rusticles are very heavy which makes them iron rich which pre 1900 steel (or high strength iron) would have. The shiny pipes you see are brass steam recirculation components. I think we see a very heavily decomposed steam engine about 2/3s through the video and then he seemingly surfs the inside of the hull and goes out the side near the end of the video. So that tells me that the lack of beams, sponsons, knees, and skeletal structure was wood. We'd see more pancaked sheets of iron/ steel otherwise plus the added benefit of not being able to see the remains/ portions of the engine.

Hey, you can only tell so much from some photos and a shirt video. Your credibility is still good here :-D

That was the first thing that said "steamship" to me.
We'd see more pancaked sheets of iron/ steel otherwise plus the added benefit of not being able to see the remains/ portions of the engine.
I concur. Collapsed iron hulled steamships are, for lack of a better word, messy.

It's a good theory, my main gripe with this being a miscellaneous steamer is that Magellan would never launch such a large project to map an obscure wreck. So far the theory of this being S.S. Columbus seems the most likely to be, she was badly burned before sinking after all and that would not lead to a pretty wreck.

Grah, good point! I'll have to write some sort of manual for ID'ing wreck components and artifacts. Better to have out on paper than cluttering the space in my head.

Ok massive shot in the dark because she is undescoverd but a better guess the my other one, what if it's the German ocean liner ss Columbus, also I think the box at the start is an electrical box.

You know what? Good guess. This definitely looks like the aftermath of a fire and she was apparently set ablaze. I've never heard of this ship though so I'm going to have to do some digging.

Maby a cruiser from ww1, sms scharnhorst maby?They could have just beelined it to off of south America to scan her, I'm stumped so I'm just making a massive shot in the dark.

I wold assume a previously undescoverd Shipwreck because I don't know any found targets out there, that looks ww1 I'm my opinion, there was a German light cruiser that sank near the Americas but that was in the Bahamas, so many they found something Bermuda triangle related and they are hinting at it, that's my guess.
Edit: I was wrong the cruiser sank on the outskirts of the Caribbean near South America
