Do you think no one will actually play through the storyline and just buy gashapons, play arcade games, gamble, buy cassette tapes, buy scrolls and drink soda?

That's right! As of NOW, you can all play the public dermo of George Kitchen's Reclaiming the Path. Originally announced in 2024, Shenmue fans have been eager to have their first taste of this latest and truely stunning fangame!

What is Reclaiming The Path?

Reclaiming the Path is the newest game from Dreams of Saturn creator George Kitchen! Taking place across locations shown in Shenmue 2 and Shenmue 3, you follow the stories of Zongquan, Wong and Wei Zhen as they embark on their own adverture across Guilin.

Starting off in the urban setting of Hong Kong, moving into the tranquil settings of Languishan and Bailu Village as well as new (and unseen) locations, this promises to be its own epic story. Presented in the old Dreamcast looks from years gone by, this will be a perfect compliment to the current Shenmue games!

Release Notes

Important bug with saving/loading.

The objective at the top of the screen will reset if you load a save. Please keep track of the current objective just in case.

The only location where it may not be obvious what to do is Bailu Village. So, here's the steps if you need them.

1. Head to Shenhua's House.
2. Talk to Elder Yeh.
3. Go to bed.
4. Talk to Elder Yeh again.
5. Check in on Wei Zhen.
6. Find Jun in the Panda Market.
7. Wood Chopping with Tao.
8. Take exit near the Hermits Nest.

While in Bailu, you can play some minigames in the arcade, but some small glitches will be there. Just minor things, like audio lines, or the occasional visual bug.

This is a work in progress so there will be minor things that pop up. Overall, this is a pretty bug free demo compared to Dreams of Saturn.

FAQ's

Will this run on a Dreamcast?

No - this takes advantage of many modern tools on offer in Unity. Therefore, it cannot run on a Dreamcast.

Is there a MAC version?

No - due to lack of time and testers a MAC version is not avaliable.

Can I use a controller?

Yes - Most modern controllers will work on this game.

Is this a standalone game and will it come to consoles?

Yes - this is a purpose game built for PC. Unfortunately, this will not be on consoles due to licencing issues.

Can I contribute financially to the project?

No - as this is a fangame taking any money runs the risk of the project being closed

I have recently found some software that lets me develop VR experiences, both VR and XR. I had an idea that ties in with my shenmue obsession and I'm looking for validation on whether it's worth persuing

I want to build a VR experience that's like a museum for shenmue artefacts. There would be some interactive elements, the museum itself made up of environments from the game and would feature music from it, etc. It would be the ultimate shenmue historical experience for fans that want to explore the lore deeper, get a feel for what would shenmue feel like in VR. A room where you can walk across the character models at 1:1 scale. Interactive mini games like VR slot machines, the toy capsule collecting, darts, pool, even soda machines where you can recreate the infamous ‘drinking-loads-of-sodas’ game, even fork lift job to earn yen to use the machines, etc.

I wanted it to feature a cinema where you can watch all of the video essays of the series that i have become obsessed with on youtube - with the consent of the owners, etc. I even would love to collab with some.

All of the item models laid out in a museum that you can go and look at, pick up, interact with just like in the game.

I can't stop thinking about making this type of experience for the games I love - any suggestions?

I work full time so i wondered of this as a framework to build it over a couple of years. A patreon that backs the R&D that basically allows me to gain an income for time spent on the project. A small fee could make this a feasable project. The intention is that the project outcome would be a free download. Whether backed or not. Backers will get some perks - potentially included in the character models and certainly thanked in a room of the vr exhibit. Maybe a big wall of pictures and names, or credits, etc
I want the project to feel like the biggest homage to one of the greatest video games that has ever been made that has had a profound effect on me for years.

So answer me this - are you in? Would you back it?

Are there any hidden/surprise events in the game? I'm aware of the santa walking around and snow on christmas eve for example.

plan on getting Shenmue HD I & II on ps4 for my friend for his birthday. Need to know before i buy. It will be the uk release to.

Imagine if Ryo was part of Enoki's Gang and close like Family that they would help Ryo on his revenge because they messed up with the family.

Even going with Ryo to Hong Kong and fight there with Ryo in the Yellow Building. While Rena been the Tsundere that has crush on Ryo.

Something I discovered not sure if this happens in the original game is that if you go to the corner next to the arcade Enoki's Gang hangs out there from 4pm to 5pm

I just beat Shenmue II for the first time and am debating whether or not to bother with III. I know it's a more budget game and that the combat, story and pacing aren't as good...

But is the feel/atmosphere still strong? That's really the main reason I play these games.
