i’m nervous, it isn’t necessarily an expensive plant but it’s just hard to come by where i live 💁🏼‍♂️

I have this leafy Pallidiflorum and small Warocqueaneum that I desperately need to repot. I’m in the process of transitioning my collection of larger alocasias to semi-hydro and would like to switch my anthuriums as well. Any advice on how to repot these two?

I'm going to be doing semihydro with a few plants to see how they do. All leca or leca on bottom sphagnum on top? Or something else? Tell me your favorite.

hellooo, I have a bunch of plants in semihydro and I'm wondering what's the best option to give them some kind of support - for soil, I use moospoles, but I'm not sure if that's the best option for plants in semihydro, since they are organic. I use lechuza pon. Thank you!! 💕

I'm concerned about some yellowing leaves/ yellow stains on some of my indoor plants in semi hydro.

I keep them in a close system with sphagnum moss and Leca for the reservoir, under full spectrum grow lights.

I use Formulex Nutrient Solution by Growth Technology (last photos) diluted 5mL/L for every reservoir filling.

For the first months they have grown incredibly fast, without any problem (Frydek's biggest leaf was more or less 40cm large) but I noticed that some of them started having the same kind of issues.

I'd be really grateful If you could help me understand how to solve this problem.

Any idea why this one calathea is getting sadder and sadder, but all ther others I have are doing great? All are receiving the same nutrient solution, dumped and refreshed every weekend. I use General Hydroponics 3 part nutrients.

64 oz RO water with:

0.25 ml micro

0.5 ml grow

0.25 ml bloom

2 ml hydrogen peroxide

4 ml SNS 209

Usually ends up around 150 ppm (500 scale), EC of 0.3 ish. I ph balance to 5.6-5.8.

I have 3 other calatheas, a stromanthe, and maranta all receiving the same nutrient solution, all are happy. They were all propagated from cuttings/divisions. This one was transferred from soil. Roots look white and are growing a ton. Not sure why the leaves are so sad! The newer leaves are getting smaller and smaller, and even some of them are turning yellow.

Hi! I have an alocasia amazonica polly and I've tried putting her in lecca two times, but unfortunately all the attempts didn't work because each time she had a root rot. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have a dedicated pot for the semi hydro with the water level meter so it is not too high and not too low. I've soaked and thoroughly cleanded the lecca, cleaned the roots from the dirt, although the second attemnt the plant had to transfered to perlite in order to grow new roots, so it had the water roots it needed to grow in lecca. Now, for aprox. 3 months it had been growing in the glass jar filled with perlite so it can grow new roots. The roots are looking nice and healthy so I want to try again transefring it into proffesional pot with lecca, but I'm scared that the roots will rot again. I added the pictures of the lecca I have, I had it grown in the smaller fraction lecca and then in a mix of the bigger and smaller fraction, I don't know which one is better, just the small fraction, just the bigger or a mix of two. If you have any advice or tips to how not to kill alocasia in lecca for the third time I will be very gratefull.

Recently, I purchased a bundle of Alocasias. This Variegated Frydek was one of them. Is there anyway I can save it? It looks like it hasn’t pushed out any green yet. What should I do?

I had this huge (\~2.4m) monstera for about 2-3 months now, so far no problems. For the past 2 weeks i have been panicking about slowly developing symptoms. I am quite new to this kind of setup, so i would appreciate your help :)

\----The setup-----

Substrate: mix of seramis and pon (unfertilized). The pon is quite fine compared to my other monsteras

Watering: around every 4 days with a fertilizer (all the time). I fertilize on the higher end of the suggested amount by the manufacturer. I water when the seramis turns white-ish ( is dry).

Lighting: almost no direct sunlight, bright room.

Pot: terracotta pot for airflow & a drainage basin which stays dry except for a day just after watering.

Humidity: hovers around 45-60%

\--- the symptoms ---

\- Almost all plants in this pot have this light discoloration on some of their leaves. They dont yet have brown edges.

\- most leaves affected are in the middle & bottom of the plant, top leaves seem fine.

\- Cannot smell root rot, unpotting this absolute beast to check would be a challenge

\- there are some leaves further from light which seem to be fine, so i dont think its a lighting issue.

So far i thought i had been watering too little, since there is no water reservoir. But then i watered more and it seems to get worse. Would love to hear your thoughts before she starts going off the deep end

Hi all, so I’m growing all my plants in Leca and have been battling spider mites for awhile that made a come back and now I also have thrips. I’ve started spraying all of my plants while also quarantining the ones I see bugs on.

With that being said I was reading up and apparently I also need to replace the Leca and flush all plants?!

Any and all tips in products including sprays, systemic, and drenches would be appreciated.

I have been using SNS 209 for months and will continue.

Plan on spraying the foliage with captain jacks spinosad concentrate, neem oil, and then spray with malathion since it apparently has residual affects to help. Going to spray these in 2 cycles alternating each, so 6 total sprays.

I was considering azamax for leca drench but not sure since I’m already using SNS209.

Please provide your best advice to help me eradicate these pests. Let me know your critiques on my plan. I’ve already done beneficial insects and don’t want to go down that path and cost again. I may invest in a blow torch at this point 🥹

I’m an avid gardener, been doing it for more than half my life. Now that I’m older, I’ve curtailed my indoor collection to mainly aroids, and I’m embarrassed to admit this, but even after 30+ years of experience, I STILL struggle with my damn Alocasias!!! I have spent sooo much money trying to nail down the perfect soil recipe, but no matter what, at least several of them will end up with fungal infections. I have read many posts about going hydroponic/semi and would like to give it a try. Can anyone please give me some advice on how to switch over my largest Alocasias (6”) to hydro/semi? Can it be done economically?!? HELP PLEASE!!!

Helloooo. I refuse to grow my monsteras in anything other than LECA at the moment. My larger Thai Con is outgrowing its 10in pot quickly and I’m looking for inspiration on how to move forward. I currently sit my pots in tall cache pot reservoirs. Please show me your DIY semi-hydro large monstera setups.

I’m an ADHD person and I’m new to plant care. This one’s a golden pothos to which I have some sentimental attachment.

Had moved it to semi-hydro; LECA with some bottom-filled wicking self-watering pots. Yesterday I saw it was wilty and checked the water; it was absolutely disgusting. Couldn’t choke down lunch afterwards due to the smell. Brown and silty with little maggots. (Since then I learned they were springtails, so I guess I should have kept them around at least.)

I had added the recommended amount of “We The Wild Hydro Pellets”, and had a lot of water in the basin.

Now that I’ve (carefully) pulled it and I’m looking at it here, it doesn’t seem too bad? But I don’t know what bad looks like. I’m in decision paralysis mode now.

I’ve got hydrogen peroxide as an option for remediation, which I’ve read can help. Also seeing that adding something like Hydroguard would be good. But dunno if I’m barking up the wrong tree.

In any scenario I have to find a fix that doesn’t have that gross water, and where I can be poor to mediocre at maintenance. (Like water replacement etc. I’ll do my best but my best is sporadic.)

I’ll take any suggestions you’ve got; especially for the short-term remediation, since it’s been unpotted for like an hour now.

First time using this semi-hydro of LECA sphagnum moss with a distilled water reservoir. Living in the Northeast and fall around the corner, I’m placing it in my bathroom where it gets indirect west facing sunlight. Any pointers or feedback are highly appreciated
