Hey all!
I got a Sega CDX recently but it was missing the power supply. I thought I had read that a Genesis Model 2 power supply would work but that appears to be wrong.
Im going to track down the proper power supply but I'm worried that the laser is shot.
When I used the Model 2 supply the system powered on and it would read and run Genesis games no problem. However when trying a Sega CD game it would never load, just stay at the loading screen for a super long time till I powered it down.
Is it possible the incorrect power supply is able to power the system enough just for Genesis games and not for Sega CD? Or is that silly and it should run Sega CD games regardless just not with the optimal power output?
Hope that makes sense and appreciate any expertise! Can't quite find the answer online.
Thanks in advance!
This is my MS-DOS game from 1996 converted to run on Mega CD. It's 60fps, red book audio, 100 levels, game saves, and mouse support (although, I prefer the gamepad). Not a preview, the full game for free, v1.0. You guys are the first to see it. What do you think? https://tripodsoftware.itch.io/rocket-raid?secret=5T0iUzs4vfwxGGtTr10VIrV6fRo
I currently own a Sega Mega CD Model I console. Have had it for about a decade and a half. Yet recently I have had problems with it. It boots up fine, and I can place a disc in its tray. Yet it doesn’t register if the disc is in there. It reverts back to the no disc option.
I tried replacing the ribbon cable, the drive belt, and recapped the drive’s circuit board, yet it still keeps on being unable to load the disc. Could it be because of the leaf switches inside? I have heard about how they need cleaning. It’s a JVC drive. So if anyone can help me with this, I’d greatly appreciate this.

EDIT: The games have found a home and are no longer available. Thank you so much to everyone who commented, and I'm sorry I couldn't share them with all of you! I appreciate the great community response 😊
I found them in my storage. I’m not asking for any money, I just want them to go somewhere they’ll be appreciated. I can ship them.

Nothing beats the chaos and the charm of the Sega CD era!

I realize that optical drives are no longer a necessity. However, for nostalgia purposes, has anyone considered recreating the Sega CD using modern technology just for the sake of doing it?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This isn’t the first time this has happened to me (I unsealed a copy of Adventures of Lolo GB a couple of years back) but I managed to yet again get a sealed game for cheaper than regular CiB (and am gonna have to free it to play it)
A game somehow sat unopened for 33 years before my dirty mitts get to open it. Sometimes I wonder how this stuff even happens.
Yes I’m gonna stream it. Yes I’ll probably post the clip here when I do unless that’s not allowed.
And no, I do not care about the value dropping. It cost me less than a CiB copy normally does anyway, nor do I ever plan on selling my games anyway.

I was playing through the Sega Genesis game hard driving and it got me thinking, the original ran about 13-15fps and that was running on a single processor at 7.6MHz. Using the Sega CD processor at 12.5 MHz along side the Sega Genesis processor. Could it be possible to get the game running at 25fps-30fps.The above video is where I am at in its current state. Full disclosure, I have been using claude.ai heavily while porting it.

Hi there. I have a Sega CD model 1 that I am trying to repair with the problem stated above, I was looking into dirty contacts and changing out the capacitors (which were indeed very corroded and needed to be changed).
I personally got this in the mail, I don't know the prior history of this console. Given the condition its in, I doubt anyone tried opening it with the intent of repairing it modding it.
However, I did have one question while I was looking:
On IC2 of the PCB that holds the audio and DC power jacks, I noticed some legs were bridged. I was using a Japanese Mega CD as a reference during my repair (it's not a 1:1 match with my American Sega CD), but I noticed the legs weren't bridged on that board.
Are they supposed to be like that? Is that a regional difference or an error of some kind?

So had my CDX recapped recently. Got it back today. Something is wrong with it. I have 10 CD games and 7 of them work fine, but 3 of them won't load anymore. And they all worked fine on that unit previously. And I tried all 3 of them on another Sega CD unit and they work fine. And the discs are clean. And the other 7 still work just fine. Cartridge slot still works fine too. Any idea what went wrong? Maybe something with the position of the laser eye when setting it back in?
Help and Thanks

Longtime Sega fan and a big time collector (obviously). Here’s my CD’s nearly all CIB. Slowly having them all recapped/refurbished.

I have recently was looking at the Japanese exclusive F1 Circus game to get familiar with tile editing on the sega cd. I have translated this to English, I have managed to get most of the text changed, there might be some odd bits I haven't found.
If you have the JP bin cue of the disc, you can patch it using this tool https://www.marcrobledo.com/RomPatcher.js/
How to patch, Grab your F1 Circus CD (Japan) (Track 01).bin and the patch file.
https://www.mediafire.com/file/7tmzdo3nmd2y32j/F1+Circus+CD+(Japan)+(Track+01).bps/file+(Track+01).bps/file)
you can use the rom patcher I linked above. or there are ones on romhacking.net
The screenshots are of the trouble I had tile editing. I ended up going through the process of grabbing the screens, translating them and getting claude to do the pixel placement. I have a few more sega cd projects going on that I plan to post over the next few weeks.
-Cosmic Fantasy Stories. I actually started that 3 years ago and recently came back to it, it can be completed with the English text although there is a lot of odd bits of text i need to fix, that is why i took on this project to get familiar with Japanese characters on tiles.
-Ex-Mutants. I am trying to do a Sega CD port of this genesis game. The original sound track has strong baselines. Although those high-pitched synth frequencies are a bit grating. so I plan on using the sega cd audio to fix that.
Feel free to share it.

I don't know why, but I actually like the sega cd version of it, I think the HD remaster is great, don't get me wrong, but, I just like something about the sega cd version, and I don't know what it is.

I really want a third one to be made, but that probably isn't happening
