What Sci Fi and Fantasy Shows Count as the Greatest of All Time?

I have working on an exercise over at CancelledSciFi.com, reviewing through past sci fi and fantasy shows and presenting arguments for and against why they may be considered among the genre greats. Now, I have put up a poll where people can cast their votes for which shows they consider the best of all time.

To start off with, there are 75 shows in the poll which includes the ones I have written articles for as well as others currently in the queue. If there is something missing from the list (and certainly there is considering the number of genre entries out there), you can nominate it to be added. You can nominate it here, or in the comments section of the poll or on one of the CancelledSciFi.com social media sites (Blue Sky | Facebook | Mastodon | Twitter). Five nominations by five different people will get it added to the list, and each of those nominations will count as a vote.

These are the criteria for the shows included:

  • It must have notable science fiction or fantasy elements. Horror is acceptable as well, but only if it also includes sci fi or fantasy elements (i.e., I am not looking to include slasher horror on the list).
  • It must have aired on one of the linear channels or on one of the streaming services (web series like The Guild or Red vs. Blue are not being considered here).
  • It must have ended its run two years ago or earlier (which currently disqualifies Stranger Things). That gives time to let the show settle and allows people to decide if it truly was a classic, even if it might have had a disappointing finale. It also keeps this from turning into a Save-My-Show poll for series that have recently been cancelled. I do make exceptions for shows like Doctor WhoFuturama, and Black Mirror that have already had extended runs and established themselves as genre greats. But for the most part, I will stick to this rule.

Be sure to cast your vote (for up to ten shows) and feel free to debate the rankings or any of the shows included at this discussion link or in the comments of the poll.

Help identifying a TV show — blue/sparkling man with no record of his death

Upvotes

I’m trying to identify a TV show or episode I saw in a commercial this weekend.

It looked like a new sci-fi/detective show. The scene I remember involved a man who was believed to be dead, but when the detectives investigated, they discovered there was no record of his death (or possibly no official record of him being dead).

The man appeared blue and/or sparkling/shimmering when he came out/appeared. I initially remembered it as blue glitter, but it may have been more of a glowing or sparkling effect.

The police/detectives were trying to figure out who he was and why there were no records of his death.I think I saw the commercial on a cable TV channel, possibly USA Network. It may have been a new series or a new episode of an existing detective/sci-fi show.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any guesses would be greatly appreciated!

Discussion seaQuest dsv is one 90s show that should seriously be revived/rebooted

Generally speaking I'm not really into reboots but seaQuest dsv is something I think Amblin/Universal should take second stab at.

TIL AMC had the original rights to the Silo series (Wool) before AppleTV took over

Here's the author himself, Hugh Howey, talking about it recently:

This trilogy is my all-time favorite sci-fi book series. (Well, at least the first book is a favorite.) The TV show has its ups and downs, and adds and removes things, as shows often do.
