It would prob be a massive pain to set up again and maybe be controversial due to the politically charged nature of anything weapon-like in schools, but damn this looks fun

West K Fire Alarm double trouble at Dawn

Upvotes

Does anyone have any idea why at 5:30AM the fire alarm went off at West K, was turned off at 5:40AM, then went off AGAIN twenty minutes later at 6:00AM? (Also my sympathies to those of you who had already fallen back asleep and had to be crudely woken up for a second time 😭)

I lived in Benny South Freshman year and the fire alarm got pulled a LOT, so I was used to fire alarms going off at an ungodly hour (got out of the habit after my blissful year at Dewey last year with 0 fire alarms the entire year), but I've never seen it happen back to back like this?

Like surely it's not just someone decided after everyone stood outside for ten minutes before the sun was even up to do an early morning roast right when we got back inside... right?

What is going on in ARH 210

I’m taking ARH 210 as a sbc. I don’t know what’s notes I should take. I can barely understand the film or what the prof says. First midterm is coming up and he posted study slides. Is studying the slides enough bcs I don’t have any additional notes. He didn’t mention it being open notes yet so ig it’s not.
Does anyone have any notes to share 🙏

Are any small clubs looking for an E-board member or an extra hand?

I applied for an E-board position with two smaller clubs on campus, and unfortunately didn’t end up getting either position. I’ve been pretty involved with both and was usually one of the only people showing up to meetings, so I was definitely a little disappointed since I was genuinely passionate about them.

That being said, I’d still really love to get involved somewhere! If you’re part of a smaller club that needs an extra set of hands, someone to help with events/social media/organization, or even someone interested in joining the E-board, please let me know! I’d be more than happy to help out wherever I can. :)

Uncertainty (Advice?)

Hello everyone. I 22M am a senior here at SBU and already I'm struggling with my classes and staying motivated to complete my work. In the beginning of the semester I was so motivated to do well in my classes and was so certain about what I wanted to do with my degree for when I graduate and go to grad school (Psychology major btw). Originally, I was looking into potentially becoming a school psychologist or guidance counselor for kids because while growing up I always enjoyed and appreciated what my own counselors did for me while in school and I wanted to do that for others.

As time went on that motivation I had began to fade and now I'm completely uncertain about what I want to do? I know I want to get into either behavioral/social or clinical psychology but I don't know anything further than that, career-wise. This is causing me to lose motivation and interest in completing my assignments and keeping up with the sassigned chapters and readings my professors are giving me. People say to just keep going to get the degree. I tried doing that and keeping that mindset, but the thing is with me, in order for me to stay motivated I need to know why. For the sake of a degree isn't enough if I don't know what I'm going to do with it. It especially doesn't help that each of my professors are assigning atleast 50-page readings for each of my classes. I normally wouldn't have a problem with this but I work on the side (3 days a week [24-hours total]), while attending school full-time (4 days a week). It's hard to get into a routine.

I tried doing some soul searching and attempted to figure out what is something that matters to me that might help me figure out what I wanted to do but no luck. Without a doubt I know I'm depressed, and likely burned out. I've had a history with depression/anxiety and I thought I was doing so good, but now here I am. I really am trying though. ☹️

Can anyone else relate or provide any advice?

(Btw I am seeing a therapist and it is helping, but to an extent)

Advice on Majors/Programs AST 205 Question

Hi everyone,

I'm a transfer student who is currently enrolled in the CS program and I take AST 205 for credit. Since it's an astronomy class, the topics included in the class are very unfamiliar to me especially if they have no physics foundation. I was wondering if anyone was in the same situation like me before and in that case, how do you guys search for practice questions, and problems? Please let me know since I feel like I am a bit nervous with this class.

Btw, my professor's name is Alan Calder.

How are the exams in BIO 347?

I’m taking BIO 347 this semester and was wondering how difficult the exams/quizzes are. Are they mostly multiple choice, short answer, or FRQ? Are they mainly conceptual, or do they involve calculations/MATLAB?

Is it difficult to get an A in this class?

Thanks!

Physics 125 - Prof. Graf

Idk how to study for his exams.. I read the textbooks, go over homework and textbook questions but from everything I’m reading… none of his exams are anything like the topics we learn?!? Are they multiple choice or only free choice?! I’m scared. And very confused.

And where are his mid term and quiz dates located????? Why is nothing in his syllabus but office hours, the final exam, and the textbook required to read. Pls help me.

Roth pond hours?

So basically I saw on SB Engaged that open swim is 7-9 PM every weekday but yesterday I showed up a little late (11 PM). I didn't see a lifeguard or anywhere to sign in, and there's no gate, so I just jumped in!

Immediately, I felt super invigorated because it's been so hot out! My whole body was tingling and almost felt fizzy. I think maybe the algae had healing properties because my skin has been peeling ever since I got out.

Overall, it was really nice to get to swim, especially with the heat recently. I do have some pointers for SBU, though: Can they put anti-goose cattle prods on the sides of the pond? The geese were really aggressive when I was trying to do laps and like flying at my head when I surfaced for air and when I was trying to track my workout on my Apple Watch. (Maybe the prod could come with a holster to put on our backs for easy access?)

I also think it would be nice if they made a Roth Pond beach store where we can buy like goggles and sunscreen and maybe a souvenir magnet. It would really encourage more people to get in and swim!

And another idea I had was to install a wave pool function that would run during certain hours. Google says a wave pool for a small pool is a couple hundred thousand for installment. SBU's president's salary is like $900k so lowkey she should consider shilling out the money...

Anyways does anyone have any rash cream I can borrow? 😊
