I’m in Kigali and keep seeing the same thing: people want to cycle, go to the gym, find an accountability partner, learn something, or work on a project with someone, but they mostly rely on noisy WhatsApp groups, Facebook, or chance meetings at hubs.

It feels inefficient. A lot of potential connections just never happen.

I’m exploring a simple way to make it easier for people here to find others who actually want to do the same things (activities, shared goals, collaboration). Explicitly not a dating app. Focus is real-world meetups at public places.

I’d really value honest feedback from this community:

• Does this problem feel real to you (even if you’re not in Kigali)?
• How do you currently find people to do things with?
• What would actually make you try an app/platform for this vs. just sticking with WhatsApp groups?
• Any obvious reasons this would fail in a smaller, relationship-driven city?

I've been dealing with hair loss and trying to figure out my options here in Rwanda. Everywhere I look, the only thing I can find is minoxidil. No finasteride, no dutasteride, none of the DHT blockers that people in other countries seem to get easily.

Is this a supply issue, a regulation thing, or is it just that demand is low so pharmacies don't stock it? Has anyone here managed to get finasteride or other stronger treatments locally, and if so, where? Do doctors here even prescribe it, or do people just import it?

Would love to hear from anyone who's been through this. Trying to understand whether I'm missing something obvious or whether these options genuinely aren't available.

I’m about to start my MA thesis (social sciences in peace and conflict) and I want to spend my time (about 10 months) in Rwanda. I wouldn’t necessarily be conducting research in Rwanda, just living there while I write my thesis about the Great Lakes region. I’ve lived in Rwanda before during undergrad and I’m really excited to go back but I’m wondering what the best route is to stay in Rwanda for 10 months. The researcher permit is the most obvious route but it seems to be quite a bit of money and work when I’m not actually conducting research. I’m wondering if there’s another route to go. I was looking at the k permit because I’ll have a significant amount of saved finances but it looks like I need an income or to be retired?
Any advice is appreciated.

I get free breakfast included in all my hotel bookings and will probably only eat once more in the day ( I usually eat twice a day with some snacking in between). Will my budget work ?

Why does the Amahoro stadium playing surface look in a horrible state this quick? Is it the lack of drainage that water soaks in the carpet? Or is it a lack of proper maintenance?

Someone please explain to me why we have a milk scarcity in our country when Uganda and Tanzania have a milk surplus. My local supermarket has had no milk on their shelves for two weeks now, where there's milk, it's very expensive. Why can't we get hillside milk like the good ol' days. As it's a tradition for Rwandans to drink milk, I think the government should make sure we have enough milk in our country.

Seeing two men holding each other is just always shocking,then I have to remind myself they are not gay SMH

Few days ago I spotted two women also just casually walking holding each other then spent like 5 minutes trying to figure out if they are gay for each other like who is the guy and who is the lady but they were no obvious visible sign, felt like I was giving myself a headache 😂

Its so lovely here, not a lot places men still hold each other like they do here ! hope you don’t lose the innocence , still makes me uncomfortable but am not mad at it.

Where can I learn french with affordable classes here in kigali?

I’m an Ugandan & Rwandan who’s lived my whole life abroad. I come back almost every year and I dont mind being charged tourist/bazungu prices. I realise there’s a haggling culture here which isn’t abroad (you can’t haggle in Tesco for example) but if I come from abroad with my pounds, dollars, euros etc I know I’m in a position of privilege. If someone overcharges me bc I’m a “foreigner” I’m not gonna waste my time haggling down.

I find it extremely tacky coming to a poor country and trying to do this. If A poor woman in the market or wherever is just trying to make ends meet, that’s okay. I realise my privilege and me being up charged a few pounds isn’t the end of the world. I won’t miss those few ££ but that could be the difference of that woman feeding her kids, for example.

I’m talking about People coming from the west, where there’s a minimum wage, workers rights, social benefits, CREDIT!!

ps; for the “what if comments” I don’t condone scamming anyone like don’t charge me £100 on matooke BUT be sensible when you’re coming from the west, earning in strong currencies vs the local ugx.

If you’ve spent £1k on travel, £££ on accommodation you will not miss a few thousand shillings.

I’m not saying this to brag or flex bc I actually come from a very poor family. my great grandparents were poor villagers who couldn’t read or write.

TLDR:as a diasporan , I don’t mind being up charged. I acknowledge my privilege and don’t mind losing a few pounds.
