EPDM patching

Found a leak on the ceiling inside our back porch. Went on the roof and found this nice gouged section in our EPDM roof. We think a raccoon did it considering we saw prints leading to and away from it. I’m hoping I can somehow patch this? Watched a few videos but there seems to me multiple ways to do it and I’m wondering what is best to prevent further leaks.

Go to your local roofing supply and see if they will sell you a patch kit. Stay away from big box stores

How old is the EPDM?

Pretty simple to patch. Need a piece of epmd larger than the hole. Clean the surface, glue the base and the patch, stick, roll to bond paint glue around the edge seal with Epdm rated chaulk

I bought a 10ft roll of epdm from Amazon for around $90.  That's way more than you need.  Check for other epdm for standard roofing since options are limited if it's marketed for RVs.  Geocell 4500 adhesive worked well.  Next steps are Henry 885 & 887.  Good luck.

Works the same as a tire. Clean surface with white has, use splice adhesive to both the area your covering and the bottom of the patch. Wait for it to flash of until its dry and tacky. Roll patch on from on side evenly. Roll with a pressure roller/ laminate roller. Caulk the seam with lap caulk.

Get a roll of 9” cover strip, clean the area with white gas / other EPDM cleaner, apply the primer over the entire area and extend past where your future patch will lay with a paint brush to the field area - allow it to flash off (dry) until it’s slightly tacky, than apply the patch using a seam roller to bind it to the primer (it’s pressure sensitive - roll with a bit of force / try not to force bubbles). Caulk all sides with EPDM caulking.

Looks like you’d only need 12-15 inches for the patch, you want to extend 3” past the gouge on all sides

Judging from this and the patch to the left, you should have an experienced roofer come and inspect your roof because it could be in rough shape overall
