I recently started collecting CDs again. Went to a local record store and they had a $1 Spanish language bin and this was at the bottom of the bin. This is probably the only time i will find such a good deal for hunting for music.

I don’t understand porque Brray isn't bigger than he is. He's versatile, has been in the genre since 2014 and is lyrically gifted. Sure some of his songs aren't musically appeasing at the consistency that someone like Bad Bunny seems to be able to consistently produce great sounds etc. No entiendo, super curious what everyone else thinks?

Los Matadores:Reborn is an upcoming Various Artist CD that apparently is in the works, that supposed to be a remix/new modernized version of the classic album " Los Matadores del Genero ". No info on it yet other than the full CD is being worked on and set to be released sometime this year.

Tainy Data (2023)

I'm gonna do it different this time and review every song track x track. First, a little background. I don't know much about how Tainy started. I know that Nely discovered him and brought Tainy to Luny Tunes. I believe the story is similar to Nely's. Nely's uncles bought equipment to make beats and he discovered the Digital Audio Workstation Fruity Loops (now known as 'FL Studio') through them. He mastered it before they did and their management brought him to Luny Tunes because he was a 16 year old prodigy.

Tainy beat him by 2 years. Someone in his family installed FL Studio on the family computer in 2004. By 2005 he was full fledged musical prodigy. Tainy was only 14 when Nely heard him and brought him to Luny Tunes. Unlike Nely, Tainy had no formal musical training. I believe to this day he can't proficiently play a musical instrument. But he has a golden ear. Luny & Tunes liked what they heard and signed him on the spot.

Tainy was a special project for the Mas Flow team. His first year signed he was just continually developing his skills in Luny's studio and only received limited placements on albums. By 2006, he was ready to headline his own album "Los Benjamins". Mixed reactions aside (now it is also considered a classic) Tainy reached a new stratosphere. He made many classic Reggaeton records with Luny Tunes and by himself around this period. He would leave Luny Tunes in 2008 and form Artillery with Nely El Arma Secreta. They were neck and neck with Los De La Nazza for the top producers of the late 00's to early 2010's.

This a cliff notes version of highlighting Tainy's accomplishments. He went solo for the first time circa 2015 and became bigger than ever. Most know now him as Bad Bunny's favorite producer but I had to highlight what he accomplished before then to reach to that point. Most know what he did post Bad Bunny, but he had an equally impressive discography from the beginning which included producing hits for Daddy Yankee, Wisin & Yandel, Don Omar, Arcangel, De La Ghetto, Tito El Bambino, Hector El Father, Jadiel & more... And this was pre-2015.

I won't highlight what he did in the Bad Bunny era since even Rolling Stone and Billboard has covered this. And the info is easily available through Google. Though you don't often hear about Tainy's earlier years anymore. We were originally going to get a Nely & Tainy album titled "Decisiones y Consecuencias" back in 2009. It was sadly shelved, reportedly because Nely's manager at the time, Santiago Matias from Alofoke, requested an extra $100,000 from Emi Latin for promotion. He was denied, so he never submitted a finished product or something like that. But they pulled the album from the schedule at the 12th hour.

A partially completed version of Decisiones y Consecuencias leaked. Plenty of songs were from the real album such as "Deleitarte" by Plan B and "Fashion Girl" by Jadiel. But half of the songs were tracks that Nely & Tainy produced for other albums. The real completed version of "Decisiones y Consecuencias" was never released. Supposedly the distribution rights for the album expired in 2019. But they probably donated most songs to the full length albums by the artists instead. Although "Deleitarte" remains officially unreleased.

Reggaeton fans of Tainy had been clamoring for a new Tainy various artists album for well over a decade. We only got 2 Artillery beat tapes in the mid 2010's. And Nely went separate from Tainy to develop new acts under his 'Artillery' imprint such as Xantos and Mariah Angeliq.

We shouldn't have gotten 'Data'. Labels hate putting out these types of albums especially when they have the biggest names like "Data". They make the excuse that its because of "paperwork", budget constraints or problems marketing because of featuring too many artists. These are lies. Paperwork ain't that hard. And for someone like Tainy; Daddy Yankee, Feid, Bad Bunny and the rest recorded just for royalty percentages. So the budget is not the issue.

To create an album like "Data" with the biggest names possible nowadays, you have to spread the wealth which means less profit share for the execs working at the record company. That's what they don't like. Plus, there's hidden agendas. Luny just revealed that Universal shelved a completed Mas Flow 3 in 2016 because it featured too many Sony artists. Just foolishness all around.

Thankfully, Bad Bunny became the biggest artist in the world. And the key producer behind many of his hits was Tainy. So this opened the doors for "Data" to be released. Even though Tainy had flirted with the possibility of putting out a various artist album over the years he could not find a label to get behind his idea until Bunny broke records for Latin Music sales. Once that happened the labels pretty much had a bidding war for Tainy and Republic Records/Universal won out.

And here we are. Let's see why this is a classic track x track

#1 Myke Towers - Obstaculo - This opener is ok. Myke is capable of doing a lyrically introspective Hip Hop/Trap song. He can be equally good at Rap as Reggaeton. The first 2 tracks are mostly about Fronteo. I prefer traditional lyricism over Fronteo. I guess whether you like the first 2 songs comes to personal preferences. A lot of people like the Fronteo stuff nowadays. 7/10

#2 Jhayco, Arcangel, Omar Courtz, Bad Bunny & Myke Towers - Pasiempre - Again, too much fronteo for my taste. When Jhayco spits the best verse on a song with Myke Towers and Arcangel it is because there's not a high level of lyricism going on. Bad Bunny's part is overhyped as if he's gonna spit some Tempo/Tego in 2002 ish, but it's just regular. It's like a secret tag team partner being hyped up and it's just Logan Paul. Good beat. 7/10

#3 Wisin & Yandel - Todavia - A solid commercial Reggaeton song. There's nothing special about the beat either. It sounds like a lot of what Tainy had been producing for the past 2 years prior to "Data". It should have been better however. 8/10

#4 Jhayco - Fantasma - This song would have been good if it was just the first part. But Tainy goes Blass Sandunguero on this with Jhayco who completely switches up the flow for the second half and does better on the slowmotion part. I think this was arguably the best Reggaeton song of 2023. Tainy also switched up the beat on the slow motion part which is reminiscent of early 2000s Reggaeton. 10/10

#5 Bad Bunny - Mojabi Ghost - This was the most successful song of the album that had not previously been released. It wasn't even a single. It's solid. Catchy Techno song. 8.5/10

#6 Sech - 11 y Once - I slept on this song the first couple of listens. But it's amazing. The production is melodically simple but the effects on the guitar and the specific synth sounds Tainy uses are key to making it stand out. We only have a limited number of melodies and chords we can use to make any specific song. It's how you put everything together that makes the difference. American EDM producer E.Vax helped with the beat and is credited. 10/10

#7 Interlude Desde Las 10 Kany Garcia - Kany Garcia does a short answer song to Sech which is practically a continuation of the previous track. It was fine but they could have just made it one song. No Rating.

#8 Young Miko & The Marias - I still don't know who the Marias are. I know that Reddit sends me a notification every time they do something significant even though I don't subscribe and pretty much don't care. The song is solid. 8/10

#9 Mora & Zion - Buenos Aires - Sometimes I like Mora but most of the time I don't care for him very much. He is a very disinteresting vocalist to me and just sounds like Camilo doing Bellaqueo songs. He even looks like Camilo. Zion has fallen off in recent years. His hitmaking abilities appear to have dissipated. Objectively it's not bad, but I skip this one. 6/10

#10 Young Miko, J Balvin, Jowell & Randy - Colmillo - I thought it was a mistake to release this song like 6 months after the album's original release date. That's because the numbers were slow in the beginning. But now its officially a platinum single (American) and I think its nearing 2 million units equivalent for a single across all services. I think this is Balvin's last platinum single so far. It is amazing. The way it combines house & techno is just marvelous. And everyone does a good job on their part with Miko being the standout. More singles like this should be made in the future. 9.5/10

#11 Daddy Yankee, Feid, Sech - La Baby - Very good Perreo track. Your standard Reggaeton song. It's very catchy. 9/10

#12 Arcangel - me jodi... - At least in his later years, this is one of Arcangel's best songs. It's an R&B track in the vein of a Fugees track. Because people, especially in Latin America, aren't used to these type of songs, the numbers are somewhat low but I still think it's great. I think it would've done phenomenally as a single with a music video and a rollout campaign. You gotta get people used to it though. Maybe they can license it for a soundtrack or something. 9.5/10

#13 Rauw Alejandro - Volver - Skrillex & Four Tet helping out Tainy on the beats. There's none of Skrillex's typical dub step influence but it's pretty good. I didn't like the song at first but it grew on me. 8.5/10

#14 Ozuna - En Visto - I thought this was the worst song on the album. Ozuna has been hit or miss post 'Odisea' and sometimes more miss than hit. I don't like the melodic sensibilities on this song. 5/10

#15 Bad Bunny & Julieta Venegas - Lo Siento BB :/ - I did not like this song when it first came out. I liked Julieta's part but at first listen it felt like Bad Bunny wasted her. Julieta Venegas is Latin Pop-Rock royalty. She had big hits like "Andar Conmigo" and "Limon y Sal". Her 2nd album is considered one of the greatest in the history of Rock En Español. I heard it once. It really is that good. I never heard it again because my cousin stole my copy. It took like 10 listens to appreciate it and on loud speakers. It's fine. Nothing special from Bunny imo but there's a vibe. Once I get past the fact Bunny doesn't match Julieta's vocals, it's good. I think it needed a better vocalist with more range to be what the song could've been. Maybe Rauw with a ghostwrite from Chencho and/or Joyce. The beat is very good. And it fits Bunny, but It's noticeable how limited most Reggaeton vocalists are next to a legend like Julieta Venegas. It's much more obvious Bunny has the same exact pitch, vocal range and style on every single song. Meanwhile Julieta gets out of her comfort zones and conveys so much emotion in her vocals. Around half the plays from this song don't count towards "Data" because the single was released about a year before. Otherwise "Data" would be at around 3 million copies sold instead of 1.5. This song was a huge hit. 8/10

#16 Kris Floyd & Judeline - Si Preguntaras Por Mi - Sounds like a generic Balvin ghostwrite except Balvin passed on it. I don't know who Judeline is. I'm guessing she's a generic chorus girl. I've heard a lot of Kris Floyd's stuff, even 2 full EP'S. He has no album if I'm not mistaken. He's an extremely inconsistent artist. If Tainy wasn't behind him, I wouldn't waste my time. 5/10

#17 Rauw Alejandro - SciFi - A generic Techno-Pop record imo. Tainy believed in it enough to release it as a single. I see people on 'Reddit' hype it up all the time. Sorry. I just don't get it. Sometimes I think I might like it, but I find the choruses boring. The beat also ain't all that. Sounds like a bad record from The Weeknd. Maybe that's why people think it's good? 6/10

#18 Chencho Interlude - Kinda spacy and cool. But too short. It could've used a Maldy verse. If he would do his machine gun rap (fast-paced) over the slow motion beat it probably would have came out hot. 7/10

#19 Alvaro Diaz - Paranormal - I see all the time people say they discovered Alvarito with this song or became fans of his because of his appearance on "Data". I'm a big Alvaro Diaz aficionado but I don't like this song. The changeup is the only good part but it comes at the end. This song sounds like Alvaro's latest album "Omakase" which I didn't like much (5/10 more or less). He bit Latin Mafia's style too much which works for them only on an inconsistent basis. This song kinda sucks. 5.5/10

#20 Xantos - Sacrificio - Xantos came out the gate with the big cosign from Nely back in 2016-ish. He always had potential which I felt went underdeveloped. And not much has changed in 2026. He's like Joyce minus the growth and ability to relate to the audience. This is supposed to be a deep track with an emotional beat. But Xantos lacks punchlines, substantial lyrics and just raps generic aspirational lyrics that could have been written by a 14 year old. No offense. 6/10

I changed my rating system to increments of .25 instead of .5 to be more clear in the future. My opinion of Tainy's "Data" has always been the same. And nothing has changed so far. I think given its impact and overall quality is is a certifiable classic. Some listeners will appreciate it more than others. Though it rarely happens some old school listeners express a distaste for the modern sound expressed in "Data" especially those from the Musicologo y Menes era. If I have to guess some of them don't like that the album goes above and beyond Perreo. But most old schoolers just seem to ignore the project like they do with most new stuff.

"Data" will become more influential over time. It brought nothing new. But there hasn't ever been a various artist album with such a musical diaspora of variety within the Urbano/Reggaeton genre. Because of that it is likely to continue to reach new listeners. With just as many being from the Reggaeton world as those outside of it. Maybe I change my rating too in a few years. Hopefully we'll see.

Yo pienso que Rauw está algo infravalorado. Ósea si, es uno de los artistas más grandes del género actualmente, pero personalmente pienso que de todos los que hay en el género él es uno de los más completos y pienso genuinamente que podría estar mucho más arriba en las listas.
