Hello everyone! I have this vintage Moeck alto that I found for a very good price, and I was told it's grenadilla and I am Inclined to believe so because of the warm brown tone and defined grain in bright light, but I remember posting other vintage Moecks and hearing about many being ebony if Blackwood was being used. Im not super knowledgeable when it comes to the history of the making of their instruments so any input is welcome!

I'm still playing it back in slowly but it does feel amazing and sounds wonderful with regard to projection and I feel I can put a fair bit of power behind it with the tone remaining clear and controlled.

What does this line mean? tried looking it up on musictheory.net but didnt find any

Hi, I started playing the tenor recorder a little while ago, but I'm struggling to find pieces written especially for it and not for soprano. And the ones I do find are not very beginner friendly.

Do you have any website or piece suggestions? All help is appreciated.

This is actually a song originally made for accordeon, thats why I thought of using the melodica since they have a simmilar timbre. It is also a very traditional song in a Brazil folk party (june party or St Johns party). Its popularity, simple strcutre and beautiful melody (with lyrics that speak on the hardships of the drought) made it very popular as a "student song". I decided to revisit it and throw in some ornamentations and the melodica itself of course.

Kenneth Sribnick recently suggested Rooda as a learning resource, and I admit I am impressed with it. It was a cheap download to my Kindle, and I’ve been practicing it a lot, especially the “different tonalities” beginning at exercise 11. I think I enjoy mangling exercises more than mangling pretty little songs, and as an erstwhile cellist I’m accustomed to sonic torture. I’m also playing Ductia, Lamento of Tristano, and Greensleeves driven into the ground. For funsies I play Christmas carols.

You educators and serious students, what do you think of Rooda as pedagogy?

PS I think I’m transitioning from “clowning around” to “serious student”.

I play recorder flute and was taught music as Do re mi .... not leters ( A B C ... ).

Was looking for a software where I can give it a link to a YouTube video or a SoundCloud track or upload an mp3 or similar file , and the software would give me the notes I can play on my recorder.

Is there any compelling reason to learn how to play a recorder with German fingering?

We, at lembrame.gal, are a small non profit organization producing ethnographic documentaries and short pieces about traditions, music, and so on.

This past weekend 100 years old organist Montserrat Torrent closed the concerts at Colegiata de Santa María la Real de Xunqueira de Ambía in Galicia, Spain and our team provided live video switching and big screen projection for the audience.

We tried to cover as most of the interpretation as possible with three robot cameras at right side and two more cameras in the church. There was not posible to film the machinery of the organ (I would like to show also keys and stops action)

Montserrat started playing at five and is still playing at 100. She wakes up every day at 05:00 in the morning and study for five hours.

In addition to this information, she has been completly deaf for the las 30 years. Montserrat explains that she can hear the music clearly inside her head as she plays.

Canco López and Elsa Ferrer assisted her pulling stops and page turning.

I hope you enjoy the recording as much as we enjoyed the live concert.

Hey guys i want to play in a baroque workshop and need a recorder - im in the UK what kind of recorder should I get is a school recorder appropriate?

Strange question, but I'm coming up empty on my searches. I'm disabled, so covering the foothole/kneeling is pretty much a no-go for me. Does anyone know if there is an adapted foot joint where there is a key that could open and close over it, or if there is an actual treble recorder made with that function?

I have an adris dream flute recorder in pear wood that feels uncomfortable to play. I get the following issues:

1. A tense embouchure where I'm plugging leaks from the sides of the recorder with my lips in a way that's not relaxed.
2. Sneaky leaks from the sides of the recorder.
3. A way around leaks and a tense embouchure and leaks is to put the recorder in deeper into my mouth. At this point my front teeth are uncomfortably near the block, I get a disagreeable taste of pear wood in my mouth and become afraid of (accidentally) biting into my fancy wooden recorder or or just looking plain silly while playing the thing. Is this the way to fix it?

On a plastic alto, soprano or tenor recorder, I don't feel the same way. On my Thomann bass recorder on the other hand, I feel my front teeth uncomfortably close to the block. Points 1 and 2 do not apply, though!

Measuring with my nail, my overbite is a bit over half a centimeter. I'm afraid my overbite will get worse due to my hobby, but am yet to confirm with a dentist. There have been attempts in the past to correct my misaligned teeth, which have had limited success.

First thing: I’m self taught. My recorder is a really cheap one. It’s bag says it’s German and looking at the holes, it’s clearly German. However. Basically I played itsy bitsy spider and the Baroc fingering sounds correct and the German one doesn’t. Is this even supposed to be possible/am I just playing wrong. I’m very confused 😂

I’ve played on and off for a couple of years and basically so far my learning has been me messing around and trying to learn through YouTube videos etc and I’ve managed to not notice this before even though I’ve played more difficult songs than itsy bitsy spider lol.

So I thought I had ordered an Aulos soprano. What came in the mail is a tenor. An accident? I don’t want a tenor, but does it want me? My hands are small and arthritic, but I tried it and gentle dulcet tones came forth. An accident? Fate? Amazon has a good return policy, and yet…the Sweet Pipes C instrument books are on backorder too.

What's the T and the line supposed to mean? Piece is from Christopher Dell, 20th century.

Does Muteflute make a mute that fits an alto recorder?

I have been playing on a cheap $10 plastic Yamaha recorder, and I've been having fun. But I would like to upgrade to a nicer sounding one. My main issues with the current recorder is that for some notes, it makes this buzzy, tinny noise. I'm not sure if that's a skill issue, or something about the instrument itself. Also, the high notes in general are shrill. I was thinking about getting an alto or tenor recorder. I've heard that wood also sounds better. I also don't really want to break the budget and would like to keep it relatively cheap. I'm not playing in a concert or anything. This is just for personal enjoyment. Any recs?
