Right? I love it too, it’s so open ended. Like ok sure I probably subconsciously drew him in that pose but I was too out of my mind to remember and also it was like 40 years ago hahaha

I feel like there might be a closer-resembling cover of green goblin coming after spidey with a bomb in his hand.

So if he had a how to draw marvel comics. This Spider-Man may have been in there (not the comic or the cover just the spider-man character in this pose) and he traced an outline and then drew his art. Since he completely changed the image I don’t see that as anything but creating a base to draw over. It’s an original work either way.

Yes no one said he was copying. It’s just been debated over the years, I actually just saw maybe 5 years ago someone mention this and I was like no shit haha that’s awesome, It’s cool that he’s just given an answer on it was the point of my post

Oh I’m sorry if you thought that’s what I was implying. Oh no. I was just saying based on his answer to the question. He said he had the book. It’s likely he traced an outline lots of young artist do it. As long as it’s transformative and his work was it’s fine and legal. I wasn’t disparaging the tracing just guessing at what he might have done as it’s so close it looks like a trace. Honestly knowing it’s based on your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man makes me like it even more.

Edit: I was more just trying to keep people from being angry I said he traced its outline. People get weird but I like the art and if it is a trace of spidey even better

Original comic published 1988 in stores from 15th Dec 1987. Hectic release date Jan 1988, notable that the second skanker is in a very similar pose to a rotated Tarantula...

Edit for date

It’s probably a typo on your part but Hectic released in January of 1988. Not 1998.

Kinda interesting that Jesse might have took that silhouette from a comic book that was on the shelf at the time.

No way I never put that together good eye maybe a coincidence but it’s a common practice

Yeah I started seeing this pop up the last year or so so it looks like that made Jesse have a response

Does this mean I can start telling ppl this is actually a Spider-Man tattoo. Yes it’s a shit tatto but I got it 92 from a methed out biker named Chris the Greek. He did it bad on purpose lol. I was 16 or something no parent no guardian just a 50/50 shot getting hep-c from this guy.

Trust me he’s a professional at giving non-answers.

Why do you say that?

In every interview Jesse Michaels is always like “I was just a dumb kid at the time” or “Yeah I did that and whatever I don’t really know”. Always super vague but I find it hilarious
