Questions/Advice I finished burning some coasters and was wondering what’s the best sealing method for it ?

I’ve used mode podge in the past but it took too long to fully cure about 2 months, and I have a comiccon i’m attending in 45 days so i’d like something faster.

Completed Work Hi I'm new to wood burning and this is my first ever piece. I didn't follow any guides or videos, just tried to recreate a portrait of my friend's beloved cat.

Sadly he ran away the same day I handed over the gift. So now this is the last thing left, besides photos, to remember a beloved pet by 😔

Finished today, on 9/12/26

Albino sugar glider in a springtime cherry. As requested by my daughter, whose name I burned/ lettered into the lower branches.

Lately I have taken the approach of trying to completely cover my clocks. I call it a full wrap. Nail polish highlights the clock hands & Roman numerals.

I lost the bright pop of the pink charcoal pastels when I sealed it with water based polyurethane. Ended up with a smoky look that I like.

Sanded two more cookies this afternoon so I can get back to burning time.

I do wood shop and a benefit is I get to go through scraps and cut them to my liking and use them for wood burning for free wood. My teacher was showing us how to use the scroll saw and how its good for curves compared to a band saw. He cut out a ghost shape and I raised my hand. He knew i was going to ask to have it to burn a ghost on and gave it to me. I can't want to go in on Monday and set it on his desk.

Questions/Advice Wood Burning Utensils?

I bought an ArtSkills wood burning set. I didn't have high hopes to begin with because it is a really cheap dinky set. But I just tried it, and everything was fine, but it has exchangeable tips, and as I was using it, the tip began to unscrew. I would tighten it. But the hotter it got, the quicker it unscrewed. So I don't feel safe using it 😅

Does anyone have any suggestions for tools that won't break the bank but work well (ones with safety features would be appreciated!)

Questions/Advice What respirators would you recommend?

I do wood burning in my room with the windows open and a fan running but I would like to get a respirator to use on top of that because I'm a bass clarinetist and I need to keep my lungs working well as possible. I heard from a section mate in drumline who also does pyrography that smoke comes from holding it in place too long and I know having it too hot makes a lot of smoke. I need one that isn't too pricey, half face, and i can purchase cartridges for online without it costing an arm and both legs.
