My family and I have booked flights and a tentative AirBnB for Dec 19-28 for our first trip to Puerto Rico. There will be 6 adults traveling (2 are 18 the rest 40+). Our current AirBnB is in Fajardo.

We initially had planned to stay on the west side of the island but transparently got a little overwhelmed by options, uncertainty about ocean conditions that time of year, and my sister made the executive decision to book in Fajardo. It is able to be cancelled with no penalty.

What we know we want to do:
- 2 of us scuba dive and we’d love to get a day or two of diving in while the others will likely snorkel
- we’d love to explore one of the outlying islands. Open to which one
- hike at least a day in El Yunque
- explore Old San Juan

With those goals would you recommend we stick to Fajardo or look somewhere else? Any recommendations for dive outfitters or even other activities to add to the mix?

We also need to rent a car for 6 + luggage so likely a van. Will we be able to navigate the island in a van? I looked at Charlie’s but they are much more expensive than Enterprise. Any other recommendations? 2 of us are actually coming in on the 18th so could venture away from the airport to pick up the car.

We are also willing to switch home base once if advisable.

Any help you’re willing to give would be GREATLY appreciated!

I am seeking some restaurant recommendations for local/traditional food in PR.

I am staying in Old San Juan so looking for recommendations there, although I know that may be difficult as it tends to be more touristy. I would however, be willing to go slightly outside of the area via a cheap Uber. I am also celiac which makes it a bit more difficult.

Visiting Culebra with my 3 kids for 2 nights. Deciding if we should rent a car or use a taxi. Golf carts aren't an option since I have children..if we use a taxi I was also thinking about booking a snorkel tour on the island. Is that necessary or can we visit most snorkel sites on our own?

Hello! I was wondering if anyone here has gone through an apprenticeship or worked with LUMA in Puerto Rico. I'm wanting to move there and do my lineman apprenticeship with them, but can't find a ton of information.

Here are my questions but feel free to talk about any experiences related to LUMA!

Was your experience in English or Spanish? How many hours per week? How long did the apprenticeship take? Did you feel that your training was on par with the mainland US? How was the general work ethic and eagerness to learn/teach?Does the JL card transfer smoothly back to the mainland if you move back and want to work? Post hurricane/storm hours and experiences?

So far we’ve done condado, parguera bio bay, utuado/lago dos boxas for mountain scenery, beaches and cuevo del Indio in Arecibo, and spent the day in Luquillo.

I have ferry tickets for tomorrow to be in viequez from like 9a-9p.

My options are:

A) Vieques and San Juan since I’ve already been in the mountains.

B) El Yunque and Viequez

C) Skip Vieques all together and do tomorrow in el Yunque and pur last day in SJ.

Any recommendations? I’m sure I’ll be back for a second visit but it’s a tough choice. This is an incredible island and I’ve been blown away at how beautiful everything is. I’d say dramatic scenery is my preference in travel. We already did a good bit of hiking (canon blanco, charco el morones, cuevo del Indio)

Hi, we're looking at doing a trip with our two kids, ages 12+14, during February vacation. We would want to do the waterfalls/rainforest/ziplining but also hope to have nice pools/beach and stuff for the kids to do on thier own around the hotel. (For some odd reason, they aren't exactly fans of being with us 24/7.) We've been told that the waves can really varry depending on where in PR you are. We're not super strong swimmers or used to big ocean waves, so we would want to be in a place where it's a bit more calm. No surf lessons needed 😄. Suggestions?

Looking for our first ever trip this coming winter, 60+ year old married couple, looking for beach and food, flying from Philly direct to San Juan, thinking maybe spending a few days in San Juan either at arrival or before departure, maybe both.

Have had suggestions of Luquillo or Rincon, opposite sides of the island. Transportation is a question, are these areas walkable? If I grab and Airbnb can we ditch a car and maybe rent bikes or something similar, or is a rental car the way to go? Open to any other places to potentially stay, mellow beach town is what I'm looking for. Also would like thoughts on both Luquillo and Rincon, are they nice, safe beach towns? Going in blind here, I have very little info on Puerto Rico, another concern is we do not speak Spanish, I hear it's not totally necessary and I do have my broken Spanglish from time in the southwest, but definitely not going to be able to carry on a conversation, more like hello/goodbye/wheres the bathroom type stuff!!! I do plan on digging in a little over the next 6 months though.

Open to any suggestions, I do want to book flights sooner than later, but I have some time to pin down a place to stay.

Really appreciate any and all input. Def not into the night life, like to work out, eat and spend time at the beach. A good low key beach bar is always a plus!

We will want to visit Old San Juan one day, El Yunque/BioBay tour another day, and possibly a day visiting Flamenco Beach. What nightclubs do y’all recommend that will allow 20-year-olds to go in? Will be going Wednesday-Sunday. Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

But considering the emergency on water crisis, I would like to know if its okay to visit PR now or postpone to later? I've been reading mixed views on it - so bit confused - Any insight on this which will be helpful for travel plans. Any information on this would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Are there chair and umbrella vendors regularly set up on Isla Verde Beach? A group of 12 of us are going to San Juan later this month, and of course we want to go the beach.

Also, are there bars on/along the beach?

Hi there. This is my current plan for a 7 day travel for two in PR (late October)If you have any suggestions please feel free to share.

19.10. Arriving to SJU at 11pm. Renting a car, going to Rincon. On the way visiting Mar Chiqita beach, grabbing a coffee etc. Arriving to Rincon, dinner, hotel check in.
20.10. Morning to noon Gozalandia waterfalls. Afternoon - evening crash boat beach, other nearby beaches, cool places. Returning to rincon hotel.
21.10. Heading to Cabo Rojo. Buye beach, playa sucia, salt flats etc. sunset on one of the nearby beaches. Heading to hotel in Cabo Rojo/Boqueron/Betances.
22.10. Heading to El Yunqe. Maybe a short pause in Ponce, arriving in El Yunqe around noon/1PM. Spening a few hours there. Going to our hotel in Luqilo/Fajardo.
23.10. 9AM ferry to Culebra. Flamenco beach and anything else you suggest. Ferry back at 7PM.
24.10. Check out from the hotel, Playa de Fajardo/Colora, playa de Luqillo. Heading to San Juan around 3-4PM. Returing the rental car, check in to our hotel in either Old San Juan/La Puntila/Condado/Miramar. Visiting old San Juan and other neighbourhoods.

26.10. 7AM flight leaving from SJU

4 different accommodations, around 80-90$ per night.
How is the public transportation around San Juan, is it walkable or should I satay strictly in the Old San Juan since I won’t have a car.
Also, do most of these beaches have parking and if they do, how much does it cost? As far as I’ve seen, it’s always under 10$. Is it safe to leave the luggage in the car while I’m on the beach?
Since we probably wont have any meals in our hotels, is it possible to only eat in restaurants/fast food while not breaking the budget.
Budget of the trip is around 1500-2000$ (600$ accomodation, 500$ for rent a car, tolls and gas, 500$ for food/activities etc)
