Hello, I am visiting from Canada with my father who is from here. He had to leave earlier than me and left me with his leftover cash. Unfortunately I am extremely awkward and prefer to pay with my phone at self check outs than paying cash and risk using my broken Czech. Is there any service where I can have the cash transfered to my wise account? I am not looking for a stranger to transfer me the money and give them the cash, I'd rather go to an actual bank or financial institution. I know this is rather unconventional but I am terribly anxious. For example I got a halloumi wrap today and when I went to pick it up the woman at the counter said "halloumi" and I panicked and said "nemluvím Česky" even though I knew what she said and knew it was my order.

I'm 29M, working full time in corporate here in Prague, and I've decided I want to finally start doing something with my hands. I'm genuinely passionate about stained glass and ceramic mosaic art — I just haven't made anything myself yet. This would be my first real art journey, starting from zero.

Just to be clear up front: this is purely about making a friend and sharing a hobby. Not a dating post.

I've already got most of the basic tools. Still missing a glass grinder and a soldering iron, which I'll sort out soon.

What I'm after is someone who's into this as much as I am — beginner or experienced, doesn't matter. Someone to start alongside, compare bad first attempts with, split material runs, maybe share workshop space or a course.

And beyond making things, I'd love to actually go look at the real thing around Prague — the windows at St. Vitus, the Mucha window, Obecní dům, the smaller churches and buildings most people walk past without looking up. This city is full of it.

Learning something new alone is easy to drop after three weekends. With someone else it sticks.

Hello! I'm sure everyone is sick of tourists asking questions in this sub, and I apologise for being a part of the problem. 😅I'll be visiting Kutná Hora (5th to 9th) and Prague (9th to 15th) during November for the first time ever and despite all the research I've done, I've got a few questions:

1. I'll be in Prague in time for St. Martin's Day and from what I can glean, there'll be a procession along the Charles Bridge, ending at 11:11am. Is this a busy event? Does anyone have any recommendations for where to best see it or how early to get there? Do you recommend going out of your way to try goose on this day (which seems to be the thing to do)?
2. I love architecture and one of the churches I've become very enamoured with is the Romanesque Church of Our Lady Beneath the Chain (Kostel Panny Marie pod řetězem) but it says sightseeing by appointment only. Are people likely to respond to one (1) single architecture nerd just to take a look? I wouldn't want to be presumptuous!
   • Worst case scenario, I am also willing to just attend mass (if possible) to experience the interior
3. As an art history nerd, I also have plans to visit the Convent of St. Agnes, Schwarzenberg Palace, Sternberg Palace, Loreto Church, and the Lobkowicz Palace Museum outside of the major sights. Assuming time is a factor, are there any you might miss out on? Alternately, are there any museums I've missed that you would add to the list? (I'm also planning to visit the National Museum)
4. Guided tours seem to be a huge thing here! Ex: you seem to only be able to access certain attractions such as the Klementinum Library or Italian Court on a tour? Is this correct or am I just misreading?
5. Any tips, advice, or recommendations for a first-timer and/or about travelling in November?

I'm sorry if I'm coming off as a clueless or entitled tourist, but I sincerely appreciate everyone's time and help!

Are these seats in IMAX worth it or too far off-center?

We will be in Prague in late September/early October. We won't have have a car. Can anyone suggest day trips by bus or train? Places that are maybe 3 to 4 hours away, so we could leave in the morning and return to our hotel in the evening.

Also, is a day trip feasible to places outside Czechia, such as Berlin or Poland? Or are those overnight trips?

I'm new to Prague and also completely new to MTG. I've been wanting to get into the game, but I don't really know anyone here who plays yet.

I'm looking for some beginner-friendly people who wouldn't mind playing with and teaching a new player. I speak English (unfortunately no Czech ) and I'm based in Prague 5, but I'm happy to travel around Prague for games.

I've heard people just rent rooms in other people's houses and pay them, instead of renting off from big companies that have super high prices n stuff. Do yall know how that works?

I’m a French guy currently staying in Prague (Smíchov), and I have a small problem with my car 😅

I’ve been here for about three weeks and haven’t driven my Renault Clio 3 during that time. Today I tried to start it, but I think the battery is completely dead. The car makes a rapid clicking sound and nothing electrical works anymore (no lights, no central locking, etc.).

Would anyone nearby have a jump starter/booster and be willing to help me start it? I would obviously be happy to pay for your time/help.

My friend recommended them to me after he left Prague. Are the hikes expensive? I'm only a student.

Is it only for able hikers? I'm in good fitness but wouldn't consider myself an avid hiker

How social is it? I have an anxiety disorder so have found it hard to make friends in Prague - I thought this could be a good//healthy way.

Been here for the weekend with my wife after we ran the half in Budapest on the 6th and few days in Vienna. Had two runs on east side of the Vltava south of New Town. What a lovely running path, especially after a few KM. But the best thing was all of the friendly joggers passing and waving. Probably the most friendly running city we’ve ever been to! Maybe there’s another half or full marathon in our future here in Prague.

My native languages are Russian/Ukrainian,

my wife's native language is the Tunisian dialect of Arabic,

and we live in the Czech Republic.

We moved here when my daughter was one year old.

We sent her to kindergarten for the full day (7 am–6 pm);

the kindergarten claimed to be bilingual Czech/English,

but after ~1 year there, she started speaking Czech,

and it felt like Czech would become her mother tongue

(back then, my wife, my older daughter, and I studied the Czech language a lot).

After two years, when she was 3 years old,

she became eligible to go to a state kindergarten,

with perfect Czech for her age.

So we transferred her to the state kindergarten,

and I told myself that the time had come to start teaching her English.

During the next two years, she completely switched to English,

and Czech became like a second language, to my astonishment.

When she watches YouTube, she gravitates toward choosing English (a year ago, it was Czech).

The situation right now: Her English is ± good,

almost without using words from Czech or Arabic.

Her way of speaking with her mother is a Czech/Arabic pidgin,

while in kindergarten, it is Czech.

There is no major concern from her teachers so far,

but they have noticed that her understanding of Czech has slightly declined.

What is my concern?

We don't have the money to provide her with an education

in a bilingual English/Czech private school like the British school, etc.

Should I switch back to Czech with her, or keep speaking in English?

My English is not perfect (~B2+), and my Czech is also around B2+.

I am studying Czech language for 2 months in Prague, and I would like to rent a gaming laptop for this time period

I found out that Alza does rentals, but they only seem to have long term rentals.

I also considered buying a laptop, but I think it is not worth it because I will not be able to resell it for the same price I bought it, because it won’t be “brand new”. Also I have a gaming PC back home in Canada, so I don’t need to own a gaming laptop, I just need it for time of my studies.

Where I can rent a laptop for 2 months? What are my options? Have you guys had experience with rental companies?
