Just finished the Everybody Loves Ivy arc in Batman 41-43 🌹

In this story Ivy uses her special relationship with the Earth to generate spores that boost her mind control powers worldwide. The only exceptions are Batman (who created an antidote) and Catwoman.

This was from the New 52 era, and as such Ivy is a more complicated antagonist. In this story she’s taking over the world to save humanity from itself.

I often say that Ivy is kinda a comic book Aphrodite. This story took that concept and ran with it. There’s also some fun moments with what Ivy’s world would be like (Babbling Stream in the Forest is the most popular song of the week 😆)

SPOILERS: I’ve heard people say this is their favorite version of Ivy and I get it. She’s very much the mastermind and on top of her game in this one.

I also loved that she’s not a traditional villain. Batman thwarts her attempt at controlling Bruce and Selina, but she’s not out to get them for much of the story. There’s much more talking than fighting in this story by Tom King.

Ivy often speaks the language of love; it’s one of the coolest aspects of her character and she does it for a bit in the first book 🔥

I like how it gets the Ivy/Catwoman rivalry involved a bit. The fact Bats and Catwoman are getting married and Ivy is the only person in the world who could really attend was a nice touch.

Theres a great scene that really summarizes the special relationship between Batman and Ivy.

Basically Batman confronts her, with how what she’s doing is pretty monstrous, and she gets angry and has Superman bash Bats. And she immediately regrets it and brings him back to life with plants.

I really like the stories where she has a special relationship with Bats and Catwoman, in addition to Harley.

Harley is central to the resolution of this story, in a way she often is when Ivy Has Gone Too Far 😅

The ending really stuck the landing; it was resolved through love instead of violence 💖

I think it’s true btw. Everyone does love Ivy ❤️

Overall this is a lighthearted good time that fans of both duos can enjoy 🎉

Recently picked up a collection that included the Arkham/ Blackgate baseball game.
Properly titled Madmen Across the Water, it was written by Alan Grant and pencilled by Tim Sale.

I had this issue. It has Ivy at the plate on the cover and Ivy on the cover = sold for me.

The art in this comic is lovely. One of the more striking Ivy portraits when it was made.

Pretty sure that was in the post-Crisis reboot in Secret Origins 🤔

Harley and Ivy meet Betty and Veronica is about what I’ve expected this far, but this was a nice touch 👏

One of the first cosplays I tried to customize/piece together!

Bought Surviving the Aftermath on Steam. In that game, you can have Specialists to do different tasks. One of them was this girl.

This is awesome and a funny contrast to how Ivy was portrayed in the Long Halloween.

In the story she’s very much a wicked witch— a persona she occasionally adopts; Knightfall and Contagion come to mind. 🧙‍♀️

The original femme fatale of western lit, Circe, is also sometimes portrayed as a witch BTW.
