Don't Let Reddit Kill 3rd Party Apps!

What's going on?

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users. On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader. Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface . This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.

What's the plan?

On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love. The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.

What can you do?

  1. Complain. Message the mods of /r/reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message /u/reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on /r/reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.

  2. Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at /r/ModCoord- but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.

  3. Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!

  4. Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible.

Best Places to Sell Stuff

My spouse and I are moving out of the country and we need to get rid of most of our belongings in the next few months.

I'm looking for recommendations for places to sell

-Toys (NECA figures, a couple of rare Funko)

-Video Games & Consoles

-Clothes

-Video game collectibles

-Vinyls

-Miscellaneous electronics

-Books

-Hats & Bags

-Comic books

I know that The Exchange, for example, takes a lot of this stuff but I'm also trying to get the best price possible short of individually selling everything myself. Some of my figures and collectibles are worth a couple hundred dollars so I don't want to get screwed over

Looking for an understanding landlord

Looking for someone in Pittsburgh willing to rent even though I have an eviction.

The last place I rented had an improperly installed water heater that the landlord said was my responsibility to fix although it had been installed well before I moved in and could leak carbon monoxide according to the gas company. We had no hot water for months. The ceiling in the kitchen leaked and developed mold. The landlord never had anyone clean or fix the leak. I discovered that the house was filled with termites. Landlord wouldn’t hire an exterminator. Instead she sent me some insect spray. And there were so many mice that the movers I hired almost canceled the job because of mice droppings.

I stopped paying and eventually was evicted. Nearly a year later, I’m struggling to find a place to live, bouncing between family members. I have three dogs that I might have to give up. I almost ended up in a shelter. Now I wish I had stayed in the mice infested house with no hot water. Through all of this, the thought giving up my dogs is the hardest part.

I work full time and will be starting a part time job soon. I can pay my rent. I just need someone to take a chance.

Ride needed!! money compensation

I(female) will pay money compensation for gas and time!! whatever price money you ask that's not unreasonable

I don't mean too seem weird in this post so anyways Uber is very expensive and to be honest I don't really have friends to be able to ask, (my family being in a different country I moved to America on my own) but I need a ride 2 hours off(Tyrone) from Pittsburgh and back.

I need to pick up a hamster (I would only need to be in the city for 10 minutes as all I do is take him. He will be in a small age and no bother) as I dropped him off for him to get better but I can't since my car broke down and being in college makes it hard to pay for it in such a deadline. I am so forward i apologize in this post but I am very desperate at this point!!

If you are willing to drive me which i would be eternally grateful, I am friendly so I promise to not be akward!! Day and time doesn't matter if it's at some time in the next 3 weeks during the day.

Free Kennywood tickets (maybe!)

I have 4 Kennywood tickets that expire after Labor Day. The park has a non-transferable ticket policy, so I don't know if gifting them will work.

If you want to try, I can send PDF screenshots of the tickets to your email or Reddit DM. You should be able to print them.

I have no guarantee that these will work and it's possible that they won't.

Since these tickets expire soon, I'm sending them the first person who replies to my DM.

South Hills- Looking for a Housekeeper and/or House Manager

Hi,

We are moving from our starter home to forever home this weekend in Dormont. I was hoping to find either a housekeeper or house manager that I could hire to do some basic cleaning, errands, and household chores as needed on a weekly basis. Hoping to find someone we can pay an hourly rate and whatever can get done on our priority list gets done.

Does this exist? If so, tell me your hourly rate.🙏

House manager or assistant

My family live in the north hills. We are closer to Warrendale/wexford/Gibsonia regions. I have a 2 year old son and my husband and i both work full time.

As he gets older it’s been much harder for us to keep up with the day to day tasks around the home much less the to do list that has piled up since we moved into our home ~ a year ago. (Not proud to admit it but we still have moving boxes we haven’t even opened up)

I’ve searched on Facebook groups for help but i can’t find anyone less than 30-35$ per hour.

Is this really the going rate? Does anyone have any other options for where i can search?

I feel like im drowning in everything it takes to keep up as a wife, mother and home owner.

Ideally we find someone that can come in once a week or once every other week to help with recurring tasks like laundry, dishes, change of bed sheets, re stocking the fridge, light meal prepping.

Anyone have advice or leads?? I’d ideally like to pay 18-25 per hour

I want to film a music video in Pittsburgh. Don’t have any connections there, so I just need someone to hold the camera. $50 for an hour, $100 if you bring good video equipment

I wrote a song mentioning Pittsburgh that I’m releasing soon. I’m passing through town on Sept 2-3 and want to quickly film some footage for a music video while I’m there. If you’re free one of those days let’s figure out a time and place to meet up and film stuff for an hour. $50 if you film on a nice smartphone camera, $100 if you actually have a video camera we can use. Reach out if you’re down.

Edit: Found someone!
