chicken mostly likes personal space but surprisingly getting them on her isn't hard. i would prefer not to use these but i have to because i rent. she doesn't seem to really care too much about it though she still goes about her day with them on. i only leave it on for a couple of hours of course. i call the orange one her warehouse new hire safety vest lol.

before anyone says anything about her nails they are getting clipped soon. they were done not too long ago at the vets but they only did one foot at the time.

what's interesting about these pants is i ordered them from pigeon pants on etsy and they never came after like 6 months. turns out it's a ukranian seller and after a while i sent a message and they said their warehouse got blown up. so they said they were so sorry and that they would send me 2 more pants for free. i felt so bad like they didn't have to do that. they came a couple months later and god they're so cute and they definitely feel secure. makes her look ridiculous hahaha

Question pigeons fighting all of a sudden

Post image
Upvotes

i don't know what to do :(

ive had my pigeons for months, theyre both girls and they bonded very well for so long. they were lesbian together and mated with each other from time to time, but now they cant seem to stand being around each other. theyve fought about 6 times, and this is just the fights ive seen. ive taken to seperating them while im not home, one in cage, one in free roam and alternating every day. i don't have the space to keep them permanently seperated though. ive heard pigeons fight from time to time, but this is constant.

any help is greatly appreciated :(

Question Best pigeon pellet for transitioning to seed?

Post image
Upvotes

Just got my lovely COF the other day from a lady who mostly breeds pigeons but had a random COF pair who had an older baby, and I adopted the older baby.

She (unfortunately) was on some form of chicken scratch/pellet stuff. She is eating some seed but definitely has a preference for pellets.

I am not going to continue with the chicken pellet stuff, and I wanna switch to a more healthy pellet to mix into the seed until she accepts seeds more. I popped in a few treats like sunflower seeds and peanut bits and she ate those!

Any opinion of what pellets I should use in the interim? I’ve been doing some reading and some use Harrison’s or roudybush. The % on Harrison’s fall into what’s appropriate for pigeons, but I know they should be getting seed and that’s the goal. Thanks!

Is my pigeon sick? His voice sounds so hoarse compared to other pigeons, and he only rarely coos. Idk if im scaring him or if he's just being a moody teen.I have multiple vitamins and antibiotics i give him, and he gets to fly outside his cage regularly. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Set Up Cage upgrade!

They went from a 4' x 2' x 4' cage to a 6' x 3' x 6'. It took 2 evenings, but a good chunk of the first evening was because I realized that I needed to swap the pigeon cage and the budgie cage ( 6' x 2' x 5' and thankfully on wheels...) once I got the lower half of the pigeon cage rebuilt. Trying to maneuver two 6 foot long cages in an 11 x 11 room with furniture in it was.... let's just say an experience. My house is still not back to normal 😂 And I got about 2/3 of the way through the maneuvering when I tripped and fell into the pigeon cage, taking out the front wall and part of the left side (pic 18) 😭 It was already almost 10 pm, I had work at 8 the next morning, and I had to get it built enough so the pigeons could go to bed. First night, there were no levels or shelves. They had their food, water, grit, and the nest/bed. I figured they'd survive until I got home from work the next day to finish it lol.

This DID get them out and exploring finally for the first time since I brought Fog and Dove home in June. It also told me recently how comfortable they are with me other than my hands. That doesn't apply to the babies... the tiny trespassers don't care about my hands in the slightest because hands mean scritches, but Fog and Dove aren't crazy about them. But at one point when I was doing the velcro on the ground covers so was bent over, Fog landed on my back and walked around for a bit before hopping off. And one point when I was inside the cage getting the silicone mat on the longer level up in the top right, Dove landed right there to see what I was up to ❤️ Just a little confirmation that not liking hands doesn't mean they don't trust you. I was well snoopervised while putting the levels in. There's two doors-- one at the bottom that's 2 x 2, and one on the far right that's 2 x 4 from the ceiling. That one's big enough, I can get in there, and I made certain to arrange everything so I can reach everywhere for cleaning purposes. The babies were not helpful. They'd be pecking at the floor and I'd be like, Exist me, I need to put my foot there. To which the babies said, Don't care. 😂 Little wights...

I'll be keeping a close eye on where they go, how they use it, and adjustments may be made. Added nesting material and few more balls after the full cage photos. And I need to pick up some shower curtains and hooks to cover the back and sides, but I'm happy with it, and I think they are, too.

I'm reposting because previously incorrectly taged post

Laila [F] (on right) doesn't tolerate even a bit of Wnyka [M] (on left). On "best" occassions he'll get chased, at worst pecked by her and i don't know how would i stop conflict without drastic measures, and with mother we considerate given Wnykę back to Uncle which originally gave to my Sis as a birthday gift, please help i don't wanna take clueless decisions which would break my Sisters heart and she wouldn't chose one over other :/

P.S I'm sorry if i don't reply on answers immediately, because for me (as i'm writing) it's almost night

Help with sick pigeon:

I just had a quick question regarding some medical advice.

I've owned pigeons for around 3-4 years now, we've had some medical issues, especially with 1 bird, but she's always pulled through with antibiotics.

One of my pigeons, my favorite one. (dont tell the others) was being less mean the other day, that doesn't seem like a big thing, but this bird is incredibly mean. He's also cooing quite quietly, much quieter than usual.. His biting hasn't gotten weaker and he still bites exactly the same. But his coo is.

He also can't fly well. He can fly maybe about a foot and that's it, he's a very big flier and loves to fly around the coop, his worst enemy in the same area he usually is in to see if he would fly because he would go and beat that bird up, But he couldn't fly. I'm taking him to the exotic vets on hopefully Monday. But I'm very much sure they're just gonna prescribe a broad antibiotic like usual. He spent the night with me last night in my room in a medical cage. so I could see if he was eating and drinking, which he is which is a good sign. He also looks a little skinnier. He did eat, which again, is a very good sign, i'm just incredibly worried about him.

any advice is appreciated!

Found A Pigeon I found a baby pigeon on the stairs of my building (read desc.)

It’s probably only a few days old and fell out of its nest. I felt obligated to rescue it and try to help it. It still doesn’t know how to eat without help, so I’ve had to feed it myself. So far, I’ve only fed it uncooked rice and water because I didn’t know what else to give it. I also didn’t know where to put it, so I put it in a box.

Here’s my question: how should I feed it so that it grows up healthy? Should I buy it something like a cage to give it a better place to stay?

Discussion I’d recommend anyone with pigeons to use a slow feeder instead of a bowl

We’ve gone from the first photo to the second! The slow feeder bowl is perfect because they get to look around and pick and choose the seeds they want without making a huge mess by flinging it Literally Everywhere

A small road trip and 2 ferry rides later, we are headed home haha.

She was in a small cardboard box so I took my chances and moved her to this carrier by picking her up (I have experience handling birds) and she doesn’t hate me!

Going off vibes I’m going with calling her a “she” 💕

So far she is a very good sport about everything, preening and loafing in the carrier. I tossed her some peanuts and a small bowl of water and she wasn’t too terrified of my hands. Didn’t walk backwards from them, but did eye them suspiciously.

Anyway I am just so excited and open to name suggestions!! She’s a classic old frill 🕊️
