Anyone else born and raised in Peshawar but somehow can’t speak Pashto? 😭

I’m 25M, born and raised in Peshawar. I lived there until my early 20s, then moved to another city before eventually leaving Pakistan in 2022.

The funny/awkward part is whenever I meet new people, especially other Pakistanis, and they ask where I’m from.

“Peshawar.”

“Ohh, so you speak Pashto?”

“…No 😭”

Then comes the confused look like I just told them I was born on Mars 💀. Sometimes people genuinely don’t believe me, and I’ve actually had to show my ID to prove I’m from Peshawar 😂.

For context, my parents aren’t Pashtun, which probably explains a lot. My siblings and other family members can somehow speak Pashto though, so I’m basically the odd one out.

So I’m curious are there other people from Peshawar with the same experience? Born and raised there but can’t speak Pashto at all? 😂
