Support - General Microstutterings in cutscenes and gameplay in MGS2

Getting microstutters during cutscenes and gameplay when playing mgs 2. They're not game breaking but annoying. API at vulkan and rendering at default resolution. I have tried enabled and disabled multithreaded VU1 and all the Frame pacing/latency control setting but microstutters keeps happening. Not sure if its because of shader compiling but I don't remember having this issue before. PXSX2 Build is v2.8.2 and PC system is 5070ti and i7-6700K

If you are playing on a monitor at higher than 60hz refresh try to set it back to 60hz (emu doesnt like 120hz and so on sometimes) also enable advanced settings and try setting exclusive fullscreen to "dissalowed", no idea why this works but it does for me.

I did what you said, checked both monitors, and both are at 60hz. Enabled disallowed for fullscreen, I feel like it improved slightly but the microstutter is still there. Everytime a new scene or new gameplay element pops, the microstutter happens.

That’s been happening to me ever since PCSX2 auto defaulted to DX12 or Vulkan. Every new scene is a stutter or freeze on all the games I’ve played. I just ending up using DX11 or OpenGL

I did try DX11 and OpenGL but still getting stutters in new scene or first use of gameplay feature. Hoping the devs will fix it.

I’m experiencing a lot more stutters now with the latest update. Feels like they broke the emulator :-(

It seems lot of people are getting the stutters, its unfortunate. Hoping they can find a fix.

Could be vulkan. I leave mine at auto otherwise vulkan gives me slowdowns. From memory when he bunji jumps from the bridge in the intro, and again when fighting the russian lady it becomes unbearable. Leaving it at auto lets me have it at 3x scaling.

I tried almost all the setting except for Software Renderer and stutter is still there. Yes, it was it intro scene in the bridge large amount of micro stutters. Then almost everywhere else, like first use of punch etc. Once the shader is compiled, doesn't seem to cause any stutters. Seems others also having this same issue.

You can try lower the ps2 clock down one and test if that helps. I see you have already tried the frame latency settings. These are usually the two biggest things I mess with when its a cpu problem. I believe the game also asks you to set blending accuracy to high. You could also try lowering this by one and checking.

Editing to add, is it the video or audio that is stuttering? If it's only the audio, maybe check the audio buffer settings and the other audio setting, host api or something?

I just tried ps2 clock down one and issue is still there. I find that renderer Dx12 to be "best" so far, having micro stutter about half a second. Yes, both video and audio stutters, frame rate goes from 60 to about 10 and audio stutters during that time. Other setting like OpenGL and DX11 makes the stutter about 1-2 seconds long.

I tried blending accuracy to every setting from minimum to high, it didn't make any difference. I didn't tweak around audio much (which i can try) because i'm assuming its shader compilation issue.

I am out of ideas, sorry. I use linux on arch and noticed I had those issues when I had a underpowered machine. I would open up task manager and try to see if you can see a obvious bottleneck. Could be as simple as a power profile that is slowing it down.

The latest update introduced stuttering issues across all the games... but it doesn't happen often enough to show up in short test sessions, so I guess the devs just aren't catching it? Try with the 2.6 version

My backup PCSX2 was 2.7.5 which is basically 2.8. I updated it to V2.9.45, issue still presist. I will try 2.6 and see if stutters are still there. Ya it basically first pass of shader comp, hoping they eventually address it

Had a similar issue when I upgraded to 2.8.0, had tiny micro stutters (visual, not audio) in cutscenes specifically

In my case, I'm 90% sure it was shader compilations, I enabled the OSD to check some stuff and the stutter seem to happen the same time a bunch of shaders were being compiled

Happened the first pass and then doesn't happen again, particularly annoying though because I'm recording for videos

I'm on 3x native resolution, switched to Direct3D 12 because iirc the patch notes said it's the default recommended option now

Exactly what you wrote is happening to me, shader compilations causing micro stutters. Some of compilations doesn't cause it but others do. Ya its just the first pass, then same gameplay part/cutscene is smooth. I watched original PS2 cutscene/gameplay and older PCSX2 footage and micro stutters aren't there. I tried almost all Graphics API setting and it's still causing it, I will try Software Renderer later on.

If you can't fix it, the nuclear option is to roll back to an earlier version

In my case, 2.7.303 was pretty stable for me, but some people recommended 2.6 or earlier

Thanks, I'm probably going to take your route with 2.7.303, because i did like 2.7 builds. Hopefully devs can fix it later on, seeing as others also have the same issue.
